Create a guide for parents to find the resources needed in the community or methods to gain the services needed for their child.

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Training and Intervention Program

The value of a good assessment comes from the ability to conceptualize a situation and provide some language and a vehicle to promote change. Too many times in treatment, an assessment is completed as a task of the first few sessions and then left in the chart never to be reviewed again. This is a mistake, and good practice includes a constant review and update to the assessment as well as a plan of action.

Using the assessment that you completed for the LASA 1 in M3: Assignment 2, you will be able to practice making a difference in a child’s life by creating a training and intervention program for the adults in that child’s life.

  • Write a summary assessment of the case study to be handed out in the school meeting with the family and professionals. This summary should include the following:
    • Background information about the child, explaining his or her behavior and the current situation
    • Possible determinates of the stated behaviors focusing on the family
    • Possible determinates of the stated behaviors focusing on the school
  • Create a presentation, with detailed speaker notes, to train the parents and school personnel to better understand the socialization of this particular child and to create a training and intervention program for both parents and school personnel. The presentation should provide research support from at least two peer-reviewed articles and include the following:
    • Separate title and reference slides.
    • Provide a review of the role this child plays in his or her family, how that correlates with the expressed behavior, and specific interventions recommended to change problematic behaviors.
    • Provide a review of the role this child plays in his or her school and peer group, how that correlates with the expressed behavior, and interventions recommended to change problematic behaviors.
    • Create a guide for parents to find the resources needed in the community or methods to gain the services needed for their child. Be sure to also identify four or five resources in your own community, and provide a description of the services they provide that would be useful.
    • Provide information on resiliency and the research literature that best applies to this particular case study. Present the strength areas of the child, family, and school integrated with this resiliency literature to provide positive intervention strategies.

Write a 2-page summary assessment in Word format and develop a 15–20-slide presentation (with detailed speaker notes) in PowerPoint format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources, including use of in-text citations and full references. Academic sources could include your textbook, required readings for this module, or academic journal articles found in the Argosy University online library.

Write a 750-1,000-word paper about your selected diagnosis. Use headings and include the following in your paper:

Select a diagnosis from the following:

  1. PTSD
  2. Anorexia Nervosa
  3. Schizophrenia
  4. Bipolar Disorder
  5. Insomnia
  6. Other type of diagnosis with instructor approval

Write a 750-1,000-word paper about your selected diagnosis. Use headings and include the following in your paper:

  1. A brief summary of the chosen disorder that includes symptoms, prevalence, development, and course according to the most recent version of the DSM.
  2. An explanation of the types of tools that would be used in order to make a diagnosis of the disorder. One tool described should be the DSM‘s cross-cutting symptom measure.
  3. A minimum of two recommended psychological tests that could be used for the selected diagnosis.
  4. For each of the tests listed, include an explanation if the test is considered reliable and valid (use the Mental Measurements Yearbook in the GCU Online Library for this information). The Mental Measurements Yearbook can be found by navigating to the following link, then scrolling to the Mental Measurements Yearbook with Tests in Print: http://library.gcu.edu/Database/Subject?subject=Counseling_And_Psychology.
  5.  Would a personality assessment be an appropriate tool for diagnosis? Why or why not?
  6. Additional information about each test to include the price, length of time to administer, and any other relevant information.

Include at least three scholarly references in addition to the textbook in your paper.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Post an analysis of the role of gender bias both in the study of psychology and in the reporting of results by others, including the implications. Provide at least two specific examples for each to illustrate your points.

This Discussion asks you to think about how gender bias can impact scientific research and how the findings of biased research can impact individuals and society.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Preface, the assigned pages in Chapter 1, and pages 35–47 from Chapter 2 in the course text, Gender: Psychological Perspectives, focusing on why researchers study gender, why researchers include gender as a factor in psychological studies, and how researchers can be biased in their research with regard to gender.
  • Think about the following questions:
    • What impact does gender bias in research have on interpretation of the results of research studies?
    • How does gender bias in research potentially perpetuate the view of what men and women are and should be?
    • What impact could the biased research have on individuals of each gender and on society as a whole?
    • How does the media then use research findings to inform, persuade, sell, and so forth?

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3

Post an analysis of the role of gender bias both in the study of psychology and in the reporting of results by others, including the implications. Provide at least two specific examples for each to illustrate your points.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings.

Discuss how the Code of Ethics applies when working with this particular presenting problem and population.

To prepare:

  • Choose a population of interest to you.
    • Children
    • Adolescents
    • Adults
    • Elderly/Aging
  • Choose a presenting problem (depression, family conflict, homelessness, etc.) related to the population of interest.
  • Conduct a literature review focused on the presenting problem within the population of interest.

By Day 7

Submit an 8- to 10-page scholarly paper supported with a minimum of six peer-reviewed articles as references. In the paper, you should:

  • Briefly describe the population and presenting problem you are focusing on for this assignment.
  • Provide a review of the articles you reviewed from this project and explain what you learned from conducting this research.
  • Briefly describe at least 2 evidence-based interventions currently used for your chosen population when addressing this particular problem. Provide supporting references when explaining the evidence behind the interventions.
  • Explain which of these interventions you might choose to use and why.
    • Consider client values and your clinical expertise and how those might affect your decision of which intervention to use.
  • Describe how you might apply the specific skills and techniques of the chosen intervention.
  • Briefly explain how you could measure the outcomes of this intervention.
  • Explain any cultural considerations that you need to take into account when working with this population or the particular presenting problem.
  • Discuss how the Code of Ethics applies when working with this particular presenting problem and population.
  • Explain how you would apply a trauma-informed lens when working with this population.
