Discuss both the social and emotional impacts of such a relationship as well as their effects on the treatment relationship. Use specific examples.

Boundaries and Dual Relationships

In this Assignment, you will apply the information you have learned regarding boundaries and dual relationships to the analysis of a real life scenario.

Assignment Scenario

Ms. Cheney was a case manager at an outpatient clinic that provided a variety of services. One of her clients was Ms. Rosalind, who was receiving services because of a recent divorce. Ms. Cheney had also experienced a divorce in her past and thought she had effectively dealt with that experience, but found herself identifying with many comments made by Ms. Rosalind.

Through their work together, the two women realized they shared many common interests. They often found themselves talking about these shared interests in their time together and eventually began meeting for coffee after their sessions. Ms. Rosalind soon suggested they begin spending additional time together socially and Ms. Cheney agreed. Before long, they became fast friends, spending a significant amount of social time together on evenings and weekends, visiting clubs, going to movies or visiting local restaurants.

After several months, the two had a falling out about a gentleman both women favored. Ms. Rosalind filed a complaint with the Regulatory agency in her state about the relationship.

Assignment Directions

Please be sure to address all of the following in your Assignment:

  • Introduce the case study and analyze the implications of the events in the scenario.
  • Investigate the harmful effects of such a relationship on all parties involved: Ms. Rosalind, the helping relationship, and for Ms. Cheney.
  • Discuss both the social and emotional impacts of such a relationship as well as their effects on the treatment relationship. Use specific examples.
  • Discuss the likely outcome of Ms. Rosalind’s complaint if it was filed in your state.
  • Discuss strategies to minimize the likelihood of such a relationship arising in your practice.

How did cognitive dissonance affect your reasoning abilities? Your response should be at least two pages in length, but it can be longer if necessary to address all aspects of the assignment

Wade and Tavris explain that various factors combine to influence one’s thinking patterns, intelligence, and memories. In fact, we often embrace certain biases and mental shortcuts to assist our cognitive processing. These efforts can prove both costly and beneficial. This assignment is divided into parts, so it is suggested that you begin working on it in advance. Find a popular press article or story from the nightly news in which someone argues a point that you disagree with. Write a paragraph agreeing with this person. Allow one day before moving on to the next part. Make sure at least one day has passed since writing the first paragraph. Now, write another paragraph disagreeing with the person. You will include both of these paragraphs in your essay. Discuss the differences between your arguments from the first paragraph in which you agree and the second paragraph in which you disagree. Elaborate on whether you think that your opinion has changed on this topic, particularly thinking about your initial thoughts on the topic before you wrote either paragraph. In your discussion, incorporate research from the textbook to explain how reasoning, intelligence, and memories influenced your arguments. How did cognitive dissonance affect your reasoning abilities? Your response should be at least two pages in length, but it can be longer if necessary to address all aspects of the assignment. You must use the textbook and at least one additional source. All sources used, including the textbook, must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

Provide the full DSM-5 diagnosis for the client. Remember, a full diagnosis should include the name of the disorder, ICD-10-CM code, specifiers, severity, and the Z codes (other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention). Keep in mind a diagnosis covers the most recent 12 months.

It is not uncommon for people who experience trauma to use substances to moderate psychological or emotional pain. Trauma can easily add to the strain that people already feel. In this Discussion, you diagnose and plan treatment for a case provided by your instructor.

To prepare: Review the Learning Resources on trauma treatment, including additional resources from the optional resources/media or from the Suggested Further Reading document. Then read the case provided by your instructor for this week’s Discussion.

Post a response in which you address the following:

  2. Explain the diagnosis by matching the symptoms identified in the case to the specific criteria for the diagnosis.
  3. Identify the first area of focus you would address as client’s social worker, and explain your specific treatment recommendations. Support your recommendations with research.
  4. Explain how you would manage client’s diverse needs, including his co-occurring disorders.
  5. Describe a treatment plan for client, including how you would evaluation his treatment.

Support your post with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

How well do you think the organizational structure works? Please explain. Should the structure be changed? Please explain how and why.

The structure of an organization determines how job tasks and the reporting system are organized. Clearly, changes to an organization’s structure can significantly influence its operations. What may be less apparent is the impact change can have on the organization’s culture.

In this week’s Discussion, you will analyze the structure of an organization, as well as any trends it may be experiencing and the external pressures it faces.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Learning Resources this week.
  • Consider the organization you currently work for or an organization where you previously worked.

Post a comprehensive response to the following:

  • Name the organization you chose and describe what it does.
  • How is the organization structured (i.e., centralized versus decentralized)?
  • How well do you think the organizational structure works? Please explain. Should the structure be changed? Please explain how and why.
  • What are trends in the organization? In other words, how might the organization change in the future?
  • What are the external pressures on the organization (i.e., health reform, economic pressures)?
  • If possible, include an organizational chart of the organization with your Discussion post.
