What was the best thing that your family said about you or did for you? Try to remember one exact day when that was said or done for you. Which person did this? Remember now what you felt then. When do you feel this way now?

PSY 260 Module 4 Assignment 2 Family Dynamics

Assignment 2: Family Dynamics

Family dynamics play a major role in how children develop. These influences include structure, expectations, parenting styles, and involvement. To understand more about how childhood experiences with your family have influenced current identification of self, take a few minutes and think back to those days.

Analyze the role that family structure, expectations, parenting styles, and involvement of caregivers played in your development.

Reflect on your experiences and share any that you are comfortable sharing. You can use questions such as the following to guide your reflection:

What was the best thing that your family said about you or did for you? Try to remember one exact day when that was said or done for you. Which person did this? Remember now what you felt then. When do you feel this way now?

Did you have a nickname? How did you feel about it?

Did family members tell you what you would end up being or doing? Was it what you wanted to be or do? How did you respond?

How do you think your family would have described you to a close friend of theirs? What were they most concerned about for you?

Would you do or react to things differently now than you did then? Why?

Make sure you evaluate your experiences in the context of major theories and concepts of cognitive, social, and physical development during middle childhood. Support your responses by citing information from the online notes and textbook and other scholarly sources. For example, describe the cognitive stage you might have been in at the time of specific events, according to Piaget, Erikson, or Freud. How did this influence how you interpreted the events?  You can also discuss the parenting style that you think was used by your parents/caregivers.

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

Assignment 1: Scholar Practitioner Assignment: Addressing Co-Occurring Disorders

It is no coincidence that mental disorders and addiction often appear together because they share causative neurological roots hence, co-occurring disorders. Individuals with mental disorders often turn to mood-altering chemicals and behaviors in an attempt to self-medicate, making them more vulnerable to addiction.

The rates of co-occurring disorders are high. A differential diagnosis, or a diagnostic decision that differentiates between two similar disorders is needed to be able to differentiate between the two. As a helping professional you should be familiar with the appropriate diagnostic and treatment strategies needed to manage all aspects of these disorders.

For this Assignment, review the “SPP Treatment Plan Template” located in the resources and use this template for this Assignment.

Consider the following scenario:

Maria is a 44-year-old hearing-impaired Latina female who was admitted to the inpatient treatment facility for alcohol dependence where you are a substance abuse counselor. During her admission, Maria expressed reluctance to undergo treatment, stating that her family did not approve of counseling or psychiatric services because they see it as a sign of weakness.  During her admission, she began crying hysterically. She stated that her husband left her and that her two teenage children were home alone. Maria was inebriated, under emotional distress, and ended up being carried to her assigned room by two staff members.

Your psychosocial intake assessment revealed she is also manifesting signs and symptoms of a major depressive disorder. You know that Maria needs help with her alcohol addiction, but you also know that her depression might be a cause or an effect of alcoholism.

Assignment:

Create a brief 30-day addiction treatment plan for Maria in the scenario.

Post an explanation of the unique ethical challenges of protecting privacy, minimizing harm, and respecting the shared experience of others.

Research ethics in qualitative research starts with the presumption that the research process is the collaboration between researcher, participants, and context. At the same time, the researcher recognizes that she or he retains power over the data collection process, and the analysis and presentation of results.

As a qualitative researcher, consider how you might accomplish your research objectives and biases with the feelings and privacy of your participants and sources.

For this Discussion, you will explore the ethical challenges you will encounter as a qualitative researcher.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapter 11 of the Ravitch and Carl course text and consider ethics in qualitative research.
  • Use the Course Guide and Assignment Help to search for an article related to protecting privacy, minimizing harm, or respecting the shared experience of others.

By Day 4

Post an explanation of the unique ethical challenges of protecting privacy, minimizing harm, and respecting the shared experience of others. Use your Learning Resources to support your explanation as well as the article you found in your search. Use proper APA format, citations, and referencing.

· Section 1: Compare and contrast the applicability of different group leadership or facilitation styles and approaches (First section of u04a1).

· Section 2: Integrate theoretical orientation and group leadership and facilitation styles into the group structure and development processes and support choices with recent academic research (u06a1).

· Section 3: Based on your analysis of the research, develop a succinct action plan appropriate for the selected group topic and population. Include session activities and interventions aligning with measurable group outcomes established in u06a1. Make sure that your action plan:

o Is based on a specific major counseling theory.

o Supports therapeutic factors of a group in the working stage (see Chapter 8 in your text).

o Incorporates multicultural and diversity awareness, knowledge, and skills.

Unit and Assignment Title

Start writing your introduction here (1-2 paragraphs). An effective introduction prepares the reader by identifying the purpose of the paper and providing the organization of the paper. Please double-space and remember to indent all paragraphs throughout your paper (not block form!). Aim to keep your writing objective using 3rd person (see handout in the Discussion board). Unless required for the specific assignment, please do not include a Table of Contents, as it is not APA style. Review paper guidelines on page requirements and number of sources required (if provided.) Unless citing a classic work, aim to cite research articles and texts published within the past 5 years. Please use headings throughout your paper that are consistent with the paper’s scoring guide (that way you ensure you are adequately addressing all required areas.)

When you finish writing your paper, re-read it to check for errors and make sure your ideas flow well. A helpful tip is to read your paper aloud to yourself. If it does not sound right to your ear – it is not working on paper! Please submit your papers to turnitin (link in the course homepage) to check for plagiarism. Also, remember as a Capella learner you have FREE access through iGuide to personal tutoring services with smarthinking.com.

Section 1: Comparing Supporting Literature

Review the feedback provided for u04a1, particularly the first section of the u04a1scoring guide that matches the first one for u10a1. Select and edit this portion of u04a1 to include here. Edits will likely be needed to meet the Distinguished criterion, “Evaluates the strengths, weaknesses, and applicability of sources that compare and contrast the applicability of different group leadership or facilitation styles and approaches”. Focus upon the relative merits of the literature that researched group approaches for your target population. Copying your entire submission for u04a1 is not your best strategy. If the feedback for u04a1 pointed out that the comparison or evaluation was missing, here is your chance to correct that oversight.

Section 2: Theory and Group Leadership

The entire submission of u06a1 is not needed and may detract from meeting the second Distinguished criterion. It reads, “Skillfully integrates theoretical orientation and group leadership and facilitation styles into the group structure and development processes and supports choices with recent academic research”. Notice that this matches the third section of u06a1 addressing theory. Edit that section based upon your instructor’s feedback and include it here.

Section 3: Multicultural and Ethical Issues

This third section addresses the third and fourth criteria of the scoring guide, “Evaluates the ethical and legal considerations involved in working with a specific group therapy model and an identified population and identifies potential consequences of ignoring these considerations” and “Consistently, skillfully, and appropriately incorporates multicultural and diversity awareness and knowledge to the processes of structuring and developing a group. Review the feedback from u06a1 for the last two scoring criteria, which match the two referencing ethical and multicultural issues here. Make needed edits. It is likely that you need to revisit the consequences of not addressing ethical issues such as confidentiality. Multicultural considerations may have been woven into u06a1. Highlight and expand upon issues that would need to be addressed in a group with a diverse membership. While this is only one section, it accounts for 28% of the assignment not 14%. Be certain the content in this section reflects both ethical AND multicultural issues.

Section 4: Action Plan for Group Activities and Interventions

The last section addresses the final section of the scoring guide with the Distinguished criterion, “Develops an action plan for the proposed group that is tailored to support therapeutic factors of a group in the working stage with carefully selected academic resources that support the action plan”. This is new content for your proposal and addresses the three bullet points at the end of the instructions. These interventions or activities need to be grounded in the specific counseling theory described in Section 2. Covering this section in two pages will provide a very focused plan for a group that is clearly supported by the literature (citations needed) and considers the implications of diverse group members. Please note that this section is worth 30% of the grade because it represents work that is new rather than edited from the previous assignments.

Conclusion

Please provide a conclusion that summarizes the main ideas of your paper.
