  1. Discuss your results in this discussion forum. You will be posting two posts: the first is your “original post.” Original posts are discussion posts you submit with your original contribution to the discussion; the second is your “reply post.” Reply posts are posts you submit responding to other students’ contributions to the discussion.

Click on “Reply” to your instructor’s message in this forum and paste your reply into the message window (use Control+V to paste) or type it directly in the discussion window that appears when you click on reply to the instructor’s thread, but be sure to use the Blackboard spellcheck feature (it’s the last item in the second line of the features and it says ABC). Be sure to edit your work carefully and check the grammar, punctuation and capitalization since you will be graded based on those elements. Be careful how you type and present your work. Discussion 1: Health Care Setting and Medical Social Work

Medical social work has expanded far beyond the walls of hospitals. Medical social work is now practiced in myriad settings, including inpatient hospital units, hospital-based outpatient clinics, community-based medical clinics, mobile medical facilities, public health organizations, nursing homes, and hospice facilities. The types of treatment and modalities used by medical social workers are dictated by the health care settings in which they practice, the mission of the facility, the policies that govern the facility, and the individual patient’s needs.

To prepare for this Discussion, consider the role of the medical social worker in different health care settings. Think about a health care setting (such as a chronic care hospital, specialty hospital, public health department, or rural hospital) that is appealing to you.
