Should media be further censored/banned?

Those who support censoring or banning media argue that video games, television, movies, music and social media are having a negative influence on our society. At the forefront of this argument is the concern that violent content, in particular, is contributing to many of the tragedies we’ve seen in recent years, most prominently the attacks that have taken place on school campuses. Those who oppose such censorship believe it would constitute a violation of the core principles of our society, and they question the connection between media and such events.

Sectarian affiliations in Senegal

I need you to write a page and a half essay that teaches us about contemporary expressions of Islamic belief and practice that are particular to Senegal specially sectarian and local religion.
Some historical information can be provided if necessary, though this should make up only a small part of your presentation, as the focus here should be on contemporary beliefs and practices. Things to consider include: sectarian af- filiations, important founding figures/saints, Islamic political influences, religious de- mographics and minority populations, local religious holidays, forms of popular piety, im- portant shrines and holy sites, among many other cultural expressions of Islam that are unique to your country. These are suggestions, but you can add and subtract from this list as you see fit. The most important thing is to teach the class what you think is most important. Make this your own presentation that you believe is the best way of telling the story.

Final Paper
Audience Analysis
Directions:
For this assignment you will be writing a 3-4 page paper where you analyze an audience. To do this you will need to pick a nom-profit organization and research their goals and needs. You may use a local or a national non-profit organization. You will then decide how you could assist this non-profit organization through a public speaking presentation. To do this you will need to research proper audiences, how you can access those audience members, and you will need to think about the language and persuasive/informative strategies you will need to use when speaking to this audience. You will then write a paper that explains what the non-profit organization is, what their goals are, what audience you plan to speak to, and the specific strategies you will use when speaking to this audience to help the organization to reach their goals. You will need 7 citations for this paper (those citations are broken down in the requirements)
For example, Paraquad is a local St. Louis non-profit organization whose goals are to empower people with disabilities and to increase their independence through choice and opportunity (Paraquad, 2019). One of their goals is to empower people with disabilities by helping them gain employment. For this assignment I may speak to local business at a local business conference in which I inform the audience of Paraquad’s mission, and try to persuade them into hiring one person who is supported through paraquad. I would use persuasive strategies such as emotional appeals and logical appeals. I would also be very thoughtful of the language I use, and make sure the businesses that I am speaking to understand how everyone benefits from these actions.
Goals:
1. To write a formal essay analyzing an audience
2. To utilize an introduction, conclusion, and fluid transitions.
3. To use examples to expand and clarify main points.
4. To employ descriptive, persuasive language.
5. To research a company and their appropriate audiences
6. To develop tangible skills that can impact local communities
Getting Started
The most important criteria for selecting a non-profit is selection one who has similar values and beliefs as you. If you are already interested or working with a non-profit, you may want to chose them. If not, a simple Google search will inform you on many local and national non-profit organizations. Once you have chosen your non-profit, you are going to need to conduct research on that non-profit to find out what they are working towards today. You need imagine “how could I help this organization with my newly learned public speaking skills.”
Requirements:
There are three parts to this paper.
Part 1: Part one of this paper should be 1-2 pages summarizing what the non-profit organization is, what they do, what their goals and missions are. Do not just use the mission statement webpage to answer these questions. Look at what the organization has done in the past and what they are planning to do in the future. If you are researching a national organization, you may even want to see if this non-profit has been part of any scandals that the public is aware of. In this section you need to cite your non-profit organization at least 2 times.
Part 2: Part two of the paper should be 1 page explaining how you can use your public speaking skills to help this organization. You need to imagine that this non-profit organization hired you to talk to an audience in order to help them reach their goals. What goals might you be able to help them reach by talking to an audience? What audience may be likely to actively listen to your speech and actually do what you are asking them to do? You can not just list what you are going to talk about and who it will be to. You need to offer justifications for why this is the absolute best choice. In this section you need to cite from your “audience analysis” reading at least 2 times.
Part 3: Part three should be 1 page explaining the speech strategies you would use to best influence your audience. These are strategies you learned throughout the semester. You should be thinking about how to best outline your speech, emotional and logical appeals, how you would gain credibility with your audience, examples you may use in your speech, and language/nonverbal choices you would strategically use. Again, do not just list these items, you need to provide justifications as to why you would make these choices. In this section you need to cite from any of your readings at least 3 times.
Keep in Mind:
♦ This paper will take time for you to gather the appropriate research. You need to begin this assignment early.
♦ You must include a reference page for your 7 citations.
♦ If you are having a hard time picking an organization or finding information on them, contact me. If the organization does not have an online presence, it may not be a good organization for this specific assignment.
