What seemingly irrelevant decision (SID) did John make that lead to a series of events that placed his sobriety at risk?

Please respond to the following questions in at least 250 words or one page. Write your response directly in the Journal area.

In the past few years, addiction professionals have been experimenting with finding new ways to motivate clients to engage in their treatment. Most clients do not begin therapy knowing the extent of the problems that their use has caused them. The Stages of Change model created by Prochaska & DiClemente (1982) helps professionals to understand their clients’ attitude towards working on recover. The Motivational Interviewing model came from this model to help professionals to use specific treatment strategies. For this Journal assignment, read the “Jane” scenarios beginning on p. 148 of your text. Choose one of the sections of the scenario and respond to these questions:

  1. What is Jane’s presenting problem?
  2. Describe the section that you chose (level of motivation change) and explain how she demonstrates characteristics of this level.
  3. Using one of the psychotherapeutic models from your assigned reading, propose a treatment strategy that you would use to help her to move to the next stage of treatment readiness (so, if you choose pre-contemplation- what would help her move to contemplation)?

Journal 2

Please respond to the following questions in at least 250 words or one page. Write your response directly in the Journal area.

We make hundreds of daily decisions that seem irrelevant to the day’s outcome. In truth, these decisions have predictable outcomes. We are used to the pattern of decisions made throughout our day. However, for those working on their recovery, these seemingly irrelevant decisions (SIDs) can have devastating effects on their sobriety. These triggers that change the client’s behaviors are often unconscious and certainly, not intended. However, the outcome can lead to a relapse. Please read the “John” scenario in your text p. 292. Pretend that you are a Peer Recovery Specialist working with John and answer the following questions:

  1. What seemingly irrelevant decision (SID) did John make that lead to a series of events that placed his sobriety at risk?
  2. Using the Relapse Prevention Model, suggest some strategies that John can use to recover his sobriety.
  3. Suggest a treatment goal for John that can help him to build a stronger relapse prevention plan.

Explain how these differences might have impacted the constructs of your current identity and why. Include specific biological and social influences that might have impacted your development.

For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources for this week. Reflect on your own gender identity. Consider how your life might be different if you were born the opposite sex. Think about how your sex (male or female) has impacted your experiences, decisions, and gender identity. If you understand this information, you will be better equipped as a counselor to work with those struggling with their own identity formation.

Post by Day 3 an explanation of how your development might have differed if you were born the opposite sex. Explain how these differences might have impacted the constructs of your current identity and why. Include specific biological and social influences that might have impacted your development. Justify your response with references to this week’s Learning Resources and the current literature. Be specific.

Describe the two cultures you selected. Then, explain the similarities and differences in attachment in these two cultures. Include whether the differences might impact infants’ well-being in the two cultures and why or why not. Be specific.

Psychologist John Bowlby coined the term attachment as it relates to child development. Attachment refers to the process in which an infant bonds with primary caregivers. Attachment was once thought to be heavily influenced by the provision of food; that is, it was assumed that an infant would form the strongest bond with the caregiver who supplied food.

However, Bowlby suggested that the process of attachment was much more nuanced and complex. Another well-known theorist who studied attachment at the time was Mary Ainsworth. While there are differences between Bowlby’s and Ainsworth’s attachment theories, both theories attempt to explain how attachment occurs, classify different attachment styles, and assert that the strength of attachment with one’s primary caregivers has a profound effect on social, emotional, and cognitive development and relationships later in life.

However, it is important to keep in mind that psychological concepts and phenomena, such as attachment, are culturally bound. What is considered to be normal in one culture may be considered to be atypical in another culture, and vice versa. In this discussion, you will explore the applicability of Bowlby’s and Ainsworth’s theories of attachment in the context of two different cultures.

To prepare for this Discussion

  • Review the articles found in the Learning Resources (and any additional articles you might have located in the Walden Library) related to attachment and consider the cross-cultural aspects of attachment.
  • Select two different cultures examined in the articles or in literature you have located in the Walden Library.
  • Think about how views on attachment are similar and different in these two cultures. Consider whether the differences in attachment have any bearing on an infant’s well-being in either culture.

Describe the two cultures you selected. Then, explain the similarities and differences in attachment in these two cultures. Include whether the differences might impact infants’ well-being in the two cultures and why or why not. Be specific.
