Velentza (2016) is a Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in psychiatric and environmental nursing at the Eginition Hospital in Athens, Greece. The study outlines particulate matters’ classification, how they are formed and their direct sources, and the impact on the human body and DNA (Velentza, 2016). The study found that exposure to particulate matter can cause minor to serious damage to the human body, including increased phlegm, persistent cough, dizziness, respiratory problems, damaged lung tissue, and cardiovascular diseases (Velentza, 2016). The study also found that long-term human exposure to particulate matter can reduce a human’s life span by one to two years (Velentza, 2016).
