The most affected by easily curable diseases that sometimes do not require much
of diagnosis in most of our poor in the society will find the going much smoother with
the Affordable Care Act now in place. This group registers the highest number of near or
actually fatal pediatric and child ailments that are occasioned by the unavailability of
Nurse Practitioners and adequate Health Care facilities throughout the United States of
America (USA). With this in mind, the Nurse Practitioner should find it not worth letting
go of the opportunity presented to her by the godsend opportunity in the form of the
Affordable Care Act (Loviglio, 2006). This act brings a very good avenue for funding the
several Health Care Clinics that there are but which do not operate to optimal standards
despite being fully equipped.
Staffing is one critical area. Encouraging other Nurse Practitioners to participate
in matters of Health Care should be of great emphasis so that development and efficient
management of the Health Care Clinics imparts positively in attending to all patients
especially the pediatrics and children. The teenagers also need focus especially in the
field of c Clinical Psychiatry, drug abuse and diagnostics.
Nurse Practitioners matter a lot in public Health Care facilities so commitment on
the part of the nursing fraternity is a very important factor for success in the way a clinic
is run and managed and how referrals are handled. Funds need to be available. Non-
Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are some of the sources of funding. The Nurse
Practitioner should spare no effort in approaching the various NGOs as part of the
interest groups to assist in financing the running of the Health Care Clinic. These funds,
provided by the NGOs, can best be used to buy medical equipment, drugs and offsetting
part of the salary burden for nurses and supporting staff.
The Nurse Practitioner needs to incorporate the surrounding community in
contributing to the day to day activities of the Health Care Clinic and running it so that
the poor uninsured and underinsured pediatrics and children also get to be attended to
adequately (Diagnosing, 2007). There is the problem of poor serving in most of rural and
urban areas in the USA, just like in other countries world over where access to health
care is limited due to problems brought about by lack of proper infrastructure and
sometimes lack of the health care centers altogether. This will require the construction of
numerous new other centers so as to reach these disadvantaged groups with a view to
finding a permanent solution to this problem. The Nurse Practitioner should lobby the
federal authorities to construct new health care centers so as to achieve this goal of giving
all deserving cases medical attention as should be the goal of the Nurse Practitioner.
The void left by appalling levels of the acute shortage of physicians in the health
care clinics needs to be filled and this falls squarely in the hands and field of the Nurse
Practitioner to offer the needed services, given that the young and poor ones have been
languishing in bad health out of poverty because they cannot afford even the cheapest of
drugs leave alone consultation charges as they have now become the preserve of the rich
and adequately insured few. Reaching the remote areas needs a well structured system
that will ensure health care is accessible to these under privileged communities. This calls
for the formation of an association of registered nurse practitioners who will initiate a
response unit that has all the means of transport needed and the necessary medical
equipment and in place. This includes air transport for cases that can not be attended to
owing to poor or complete lack of roads. Small aero planes or helicopters come in handy
and therefore the groundwork is done. What now remains is sourcing medical personnel
and equipment including drugs. Funding for this initiative could come from the federal
government following the Affordable Care Act, which provides for the facilitation of the
availability of health care to all disregarding their status in society.
Low salaries do not motivate the Nurse Practitoners and they have turned to high-
end health care centers where the remuneration packages and working conditions are
much better compared to the ones offered in health care centers. Monies from the federal
coffers need to be used to boost their salaries so that they can be retained in these canters
(Coleman & Turton, 2003). Developing the clinics can only materialize if all the Nurse
Practitioners are willing to have a united front. The easiest means towards this end is to
form a professional membership club. Sourcing funds as a club is easier hence the
question of where to get funds is solved. Most non-profit organizations and other interest
groups should form part of the undertaking. Most of these groups prefer organizations
rather than single entities. This justifies the need for the grouping of professionals to
work hand in hand for efficient development and management of the health care centers.
Mobile health care centers can also help ease the problem where there are no
existing centers and where the case acute or chronic to urgent status (Loviglio, 2006).
This involves pitching tent temporarily and going from place to place attending to urgent,
acute and emergency cases.
