Nursing Teaching/Wk5/Discussion

My mother was hospitalized for pneumonia. After ten days of hospitalization and complications of the pneumonia my mom came home on a prescription inhaler and home oxygen because her saturation while ambulating would not go above 80{0e601fc7fe3603dc36f9ca2f49ef4cd268b5950ef1bbcf1f795cc00e94cdd119} on room air. Also, an incentive spirometer was sent home with written instructions. The incentive spirometer was the most challenging for her to understand. She is 75 years old and has a high school diploma, but she is ready to learn because of her willingness to get better. I will be using nontraditional methods to teach my mother.

The learning objective is to understand the parts of the incentive spirometer and what the mean. There are printed materials to follow along. The formative assessment is an oral type of quiz I asked my mom to point to the parts of the incentive spirometer and tell me what they are and what do they mean. My mom then pointed and named the different parts of the spirometer and explained what it does. We did that several times, so I knew she had mastered the formative assessment.

The next learning objective is watching a video online demonstrating the use of the incentive spirometer. The summative assessment is how she demonstrated the proper use of the incentive spirometer after watching a video demonstration. The demonstration included proper position and holding the incentive spirometer correctly, sealing your lips around the mouth piece, and breathing in slowly to the correct goal number on the cylinder. My mom then held the incentive spirometer and demonstrated the proper use of the spirometer. The next time she had to use it, I was there and asked her to demonstrate again verbalizing the steps in order.

After my mom was finished, I then talked to her about the results of her demonstration. I told her that she knows and understands the proper use of her incentive spirometer by reading the printed materials, naming the parts of the spirometer and their functions. She did a successful demonstration in the correct order. Based on my evaluation my mom has successfully accomplished this demonstration.

6 Page Annotated Bibliography On HIV/AIDS

An annotated bibliography is a document containing selected sources accompanied by a respective annotation. Each annotation consists of a summary, analysis, and application for the purpose of conveying the relevance and value of the selected source. As such, annotations demonstrate a writer’s critical thinking about and authority on the topic represented in the sources.

In preparation for your own future research, an annotated bibliography provides a background for understanding a portion of the existing literature on a particular topic. It is also a useful precursor for gathering sources in preparation for writing a subsequent literature review.

· Locate six articles on HIV/AIDS—two quantitative research articles, two qualitative research articles, and two mixed methods research articles—published in peer-reviewed journals.

· Prepare an annotated bibliography that includes the following:

A one-paragraph introduction that provides context for why you selected the research articles you did.

A reference list entry in APA Style for each of the six articles that follows proper formatting. Follow each reference list entry with a three-paragraph annotation that includes:

A summary

An analysis

An application as illustrated in this example A one-paragraph conclusion that presents a synthesis of the six articles.

· Format your annotated bibliography in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced. A separate References list page is not needed for this assignment.

Promoting Health Care QualitySection 5: Evaluation Plan

With the recognition of the bidirectional link between quality and finance in a healthcare organization, it follows that any changes to one can have an echo in the other. To determine the net result of a change in overall performance status of the organization, one must determine the point where the results of echoes will reach equilibrium.—Sadeghi, Barzi, Mikhail, & Shabot, 2013

This week you have been examining evaluation tools and how they can be used as part of a plan to promote quality and safety. As you develop an evaluation plan for your Course Project, consider the insights you have gained through your analysis of your selected organization, as well as the highly regulated and competitive health care environment.

To prepare:Review the information on evaluation, including data representation and quality monitoring, presented in the Learning Resources. Review your work on the Course Project thus far, particularly Sections 3 and 4. Think about how your quality improvement initiative could be evaluated.

Consider the following:

Which stakeholders need information related to this initiative? What do they need this information for?How would you assess the outcomes in the short-term and long-term? How would you analyze related processes, including but not limited to the one you redesigned in Section 4?How should an analysis of organizational structures be integrated into your evaluation? How would you identify and evaluate any unintended consequences that may arise? What metrics should the organization use to gauge progress and the effectiveness of the quality improvement initiative? How would these metrics incorporate the measures and indicators that you identified in Section 3? Are there additional measures and indicators that you now think should be included? How should the organization track and display data for an interdisciplinary audience? How could the use of a dashboard or balanced scorecard be of value? How could the organization create an integrated view of performance that links finance and quality?

I HAVE INNCLUDED THE PAPERS I SUBMITTED FOR SECTION 1, 3 AND 4. PLEASE REVIEW THEM.

To complete:Develop a 2- to 3-page evaluation plan that includes the following:An outline of the methods that you would propose for evaluating the quality improvement initiative and the financial implicationsA description of specific metrics that integrate your previously identified measures and indicators and any others that you have deemed importantA recommendation of how the organization could represent data related to this quality improvement issue for ongoing monitoring and to determine the value or success of the initiativeAn explanation of how the organization could create an integrated view of performance that links finance and quality

Public Health My Demographic Area Is Boston, My Chosen Topic Is Cigarette Smoking

ourse Project Part 1

This week, you will be expected to identify a topic and create a framework for your Course Project. By now, you have consumed a vast amount of information and it may be difficult to delineate a specific topic area. In order to pick a topic, consider developing a research question. You have selected a geographic location to study. You have also considered the health statistics, demographics, and policies that may impact the area. Now, you are expected to delineate a topic area.

For example, you might ask, what types of services are provided for diabetic patients in Oklahoma? What are the policies related to diabetes care in Oklahoma? What are some of the social determinants of health that may impact the risk of diabetes or diabetes management? What are preventive methods? What have leaders in Oklahoma done to assure prevention and management of diabetes?

You might also ask, how will the implementation of the Affordable Care Act impact pregnant women in my state. Narrowing down your topic area to a specific policy and target population will enable you to focus your research and in writing your assignment. It is critical that you understand the purpose and intent of the policy as well as study your target population and the policies of the state or community you chose. It will also be important for you to understand what advocacy and community organizations are doing in your state in support or against the implementation of the policy.

Read the following case study from your textbook:

  • Case 7: Challenges with Implementing a Community-Based Potable Water System Project in a Rural Honduran Community

Then, accomplish the following tasks to complete this assignment:

  • Choose a health topic or issue that significantly or adversely impacts the target population in the geographic region or location you have chosen. Describe why the health topic or issue is important to consider.
  • Research health policies, programs, resources, and all other related materials, such as news articles, press releases, etc., that may provide relevant information on the topic.
  • Summarize your findings and create an outline for your Course Project in the following format:
    • On the first page, provide background information on your selected target population and region.
    • Then, provide demographic information as well as major health issues in your chosen area.
    • On the following pages, highlight the topic areas of your paper in an outline format.
    • On a separate page, cite all sources using the APA format.

Submission Details:

  • Write a 5-7 page paper in Microsoft Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
  • Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_W3_A2.doc.
  • By the due date assigned, deliver your assignment to the Submissions Area.
