What it meant to the original poster depends on their situation and personality, and what it means to the reader varies as well.

Read the three statuses below and think of three different scenarios where the original status listed could be interpreted to mean something different.

For example, if the status update was, “Goodbye, cruel world!” it could be a reach out for help, a reference to pop culture (Pink Floyd album or several other songs), or someone being overly dramatic and silly. What it meant to the original poster depends on their situation and personality, and what it means to the reader varies as well. Be sure to consider biases and different social groups as you write.

For each of the statuses below, discuss each interpretation of the status.

  • Status 1: They’re always trying to keep me down!
  • Status 2: A very good day. I didn’t have to see any of the sickly, disgusting mites that live around here.
  • Status 3: I love my life!

Describe the situation and the question(s) you would hope to answer using statistical tests.

Test of Significance

Instructions:

Watch the video, Tests of Significance.

(Tests of Significance, 2013)

In the video, you observed the value of statistics in determining the authorship of a newly discovered poem.  Consider the video and review your course readings on statistical significance, and then select a situation in your life or career where statistics could be used to answer questions. Examples could include authorship, quality of products, or health issues. After making a selection:

  • Describe the situation and the question(s) you would hope to answer using statistical tests.
  • Write a null hypothesis for your question(s).
  • Assume you conducted your statistical tests and were able to reject the null hypothesis.  How would you interpret the results?
  • Discuss whether statistical significance would mean you should change the way you approach your situation. (For example, if a new drug on the market lowered blood pressure by 2 percent and this difference was found statistically significant, would it be worth using the new drug?)

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

Test of Significance

Instructions:

Please respond to a minimum of two peers. Include in your response:

  • Comment on the situation described by your peers.
  • Ask questions such as:
  • What could they do to make it more likely that a data sample demonstrated a significant difference?
  • Would increasing the likelihood of having a statistically significant difference change the way they react to that conclusion?

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

What controls are necessary to ensure this applications software operates as intended?

Answer the following questions for Web browser and Web server software:

1. What functions should this software application provide?

2. What functions should this software application prohibit?

3. What controls are necessary to ensure this applications software operates as intended?

4. What steps are necessary to validate that the software operates as intended?

Once you have answered the questions above, fill in the following details to develop your policies to secure application software. Remember, you are writing policies, not procedures. Focus on the high-level tasks, not the individual steps.  Type of application software  Description of functions this software should allow  Description of functions this software should prohibit  Known vulnerabilities associated with software  Controls necessary to ensure compliance with desired functionality  Method to assess security control effectiveness You will write two policies—one for Web server software and one for Web browser software

Explain why and how you see things differently

The concepts of “actuarial fairness” provide the background you need for this discussion.

For your initial post, describe how the conflicts of “actuarial fairness” have affected you, or someone you know, personally. Also, explain the loss or benefit to each party involved in the conflict.

Respond to two or more of your colleagues’ postings in any of the following ways:

  • Build on something your peer said
  • Explain why and how you see things differently.
  • Ask a probing or clarifying question.
  • Validate an idea with your own experience.
