analyze and evaluate the methodology of both studies and how methodology affected the differences in how the studies were reported.

Instructions
As the text points out, causal reasoning is used in clinical studies. As a professional in the health field, you will undoubtedly be referring to cause/effect studies for the rest of your professional life. In this discussion, you are asked to expand and deepen your understanding of clinical studies.

In 1999, a study on the causes of myopia appeared in the prestigious journal Nature (Quinn). The study received wide-spread publicity in leading newspapers, such as the New York Times, and on television outlets, such as CBS and CNN. Within a year, another article in Nature followed up the 1999 study (Zadnik). The studies had dramatically different findings.

Using what you have learned from the text, as well as any other sources you may find useful (including the websites in the Required Resources), analyze and evaluate the methodology of both studies and how methodology affected the differences in how the studies were reported.

Reportage of both studies can be found with an Internet search using all of the following terms: <Philadelphia myopia night lights>

Theoretical Criminology

DB8.1: Shaming
What are the policy implications of Braithwaite’s reintegrative shaming theory? Give examples how this can negatively affect an individual and examples how it can positively affect an individual. Explain what you would do to not negatively affect an individual in the examples you gave.

DB8.2: Assessing
After going through all the theories in this course, do you believe that the theories actually explain what the issues are and how to solve them or just make things more confusing? What theory do you like the best and why?

Art History II

DB8.1 discussion
Let’s take a look at the extensive career of Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011), who found a way to incorporate all of the innovative techniques artists were experimenting with starting in 1945.  Her paintings have elements of action painting, abstract expressionism, color-filed painting, non-objective subject matter.  They are also aesthetically pleasing to a large audience.  Search for a Frankenthaler painting online, or even an image of her working on a painting, post it and discuss which of these new techniques in art making you see her using. Be sure to cite your resource(s) and properly give credit where credit is due!

Unit 8.2 Discussion Forum
Now we are getting to a point in art history where we have to talk about art in a different way than before.  There’s a lot involved in the process and the intention of the art that isn’t always clearly identified.  Let’s talk about that process of trying to figure out what abstract art is all about.  After going through this Unit, do you think you could go to a modern art museum and try to understand what’s going on?  Do you think you have the tools needed to ask the right questions, look for the right clues, and understand something new?

IT Driving Business Strategy and Digital Transformation

Select an industry (your industry or another) and consider how IT systems and business strategies focused on digital interactions can transform the way companies are doing business. IT systems can transform how a company interacts with its customers, partners, and suppliers, how employees do their work and the entire nature of how a company operates. With the concept of “digital enterprise” companies may be rethinking their entire approach to doing business, relying on IT/digital systems for efficiencies, geographical reach, around the clock operations and novel ways of engaging with customers. Innovative companies are also disrupting traditional industries and even creating new industries – examples include Amazon (the “everything” store), Airbnb (a marketplace connecting travelers and hosts), Uber (ride-sharing), and many others.

Your Challenge:

Select a prototypical company within your selected industry (it could also be the company you are working for) and create a proposal on how the company can use IT technologies and systems to change the way it is doing business and transform itself. Consider the current and long term challenges the company may be facing (competitive pressures, the need to reduce costs, the need to increase efficiencies and productivity, ability to grow and expand, evolving customer preferences and needs, etc.). Your proposal should provide a comprehensive approach to use IT technologies to address the company challenges. Outline the future vision of how the company can be operating with the use of IT and digital technologies, and provide examples of how the new vision will impact interactions with customers, partners, suppliers, internal operations, and employee activities. Try to be creative and innovative in using digital technologies to transform business strategies. Explain the steps needed to implement your strategy and initiate a digital transformation.

Create your response to this challenge as a proposal you will submit to business strategy leadership in your selected company. Format your response as an APA paper and include a bibliography with references/sources you have consulted in preparing your proposal.

Describe the strategies you might be able to implement to move your health care organization to a high-performing organization.

As you have noted in this course and in your practice, nurses have an integral role in promoting a just culture focused on patient safety in their health care organizations. Determining resources to prevent error and improve patient safety can often be a battle, and this scenario illustrates how one organization makes strides to make sure resources are available in the interest of patient safety. As you review the scenario, consider the nurse’s role in promoting a just culture in your practice setting.

By Day 3

Post a description of the role of the staff nurse for promoting quality in a high-performing health care organization. Define the organizational culture of your health care organization, or one with which you are familiar, and identify the leadership style of the CEO and CNO in your organization. Explain how your senior leadership supports—or does not support—changes that require financing/budget to support patient safety. Describe the strategies you might be able to implement to move your health care organization to a high-performing organization.

Support your response with references from the professional nursing literature. Your posts need to be written at the capstone level (see checklist)

Notes Initial Post: This should be a 3-paragraph (at least 350 words) response. Be sure to use evidence from the readings and include in-text citations. Utilize essay-level writing practice and skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Avoid quotes; paraphrase to incorporate evidence into your own writing. A reference list is required. Use the most current evidence (usually ≤ 5 years old). (Refer to AWE Checklist, Capstone)
