Please develop the ideas you began in the forum area this week into a full essay

This week, you will write your first essay. Please develop the ideas you began in the forum area this week into a full essay. Use the three-part thesis and five-paragraph essay format you learned this week under Lessons.

(Example thesis: Ghost Adventures is my favorite TV shows because of the investigators, the paranormal theme, and the locations they visit.) Tip: TV or movie titles should be put in italics.

Do not use sources or include research for this essay. We are practicing organization this week, and this essay should be strictly your own writing.

Please do not let anyone else write or revise your writing. My job is to help you improve YOUR writing. I can only do that if you let me see your mistakes. I am not interested in how well someone else writes. I want to help YOU!

(Hint: if you are struggling, there are tutoring opportunities listed on our Syllabus. This is an appropriate route for acquiring help with your writing. You may contact me for help anytime too!)

Download the template and save it as your last name and Essay 1 (Example: Smith_Essay1). The MLA formatting is done for you (e.g., Times New Roman size 12, double-spaced, header, etc.). Update your name, your professor’s name, and date. Don’t forget to put your last name in the header. (Let me know if you don’t know how to get into the header section or type a question into your Word help section.)

Your essay should be between 500 and 750 words. Please do not go under the word count at all. Do not go over the word count by more than 50 words. Following instructions is an important part of any writing assignment, and often you will be asked to adhere to word count guidelines, so this is good practice!

Be sure that all paragraphs are well developed. I suggest 5-8 sentences per paragraph and no less than 100 words per paragraph, including your introduction and conclusion.

(Points saver: as you proof your essay in Word, hit the control [ctrl] key and the “F” key at the same time. This will bring up the search feature. Type in what you wish to find, such as the word you, to be sure you have avoided second person. This works in finding contractions too. Type in an apostrophe and hit enter!)

When you “submit” your paper, it will be uploaded into Turnitin (a plagiarism-detection website) automatically. You do not have to create a Turnitin account yourself. Both you and your instructor will receive the results. (The Turnitin report will be under Assignments and will have a percentage on it, like 22%. Click on the percentage to view your report. Certain parts of your essay will be highlighted. This shows where you have used information from a library source or material that appears in another student’s essay. Since you are not using sources for this essay, you will likely receive a score very close to 0%.)

A sample essay (“Jolly”) is under Resources. Take a look before you begin!

Using the given functions, draw a corresponding demand curve and a supply curve

Assume that the City Council in Prescott, Arizona is considering implementing price ceilings on rental units based on the number of bedrooms in the unit. The demand function for rental units (on a single bedroom equivalent basis) is given by QD = 120 – 4P and the supply function is given by QS = 2P, where P is price and Q is quantity. The Council is considering imposing a ceiling price on rental units of Pmax = 16.

1. Using the given functions, draw a corresponding demand curve and a supply curve. Properly label the equilibrium price and quantity. Then show what will happen to equilibrium if the City Council imposes a price ceiling at 16. (There are numerous guides online that demonstrate how to draw supply and demand curves; most are done in Excel. Then you can copy and paste the graph into your Word document where you will write out answers to the following questions.)

2. Are consumers of rental-housing in Prescott well-served by this price ceiling policy? Provide a careful economic analysis in support of your claim.

3. Suppose that the Council is concerned that landlords will allow the quality of their rental units to deteriorate following the imposition of the ceiling price. What can you infer about the level of quality that landlords’ provision will allow if consumers are worse off, following the imposition of the ceiling price? Provide a careful economic analysis in support of your claim.

4. Suppose now that the proposal before the City Council contemplates imposing a price ceiling on apartment rentals, but not on house rentals. Would owners of rental houses in Manhattan be likely to support this proposal, or would they prefer the status quo (i.e., no price ceilings)? Provide the economic rationale for your answer. (In answering this question, you should ignore all supply-side considerations. In other words, just assume that supply adjusts fully to accommodate demand.)

Next, find two recent scholarly articles concerning proposals to increase the minimum wage in the United States. Using a supply, demand and, in this case, price floor analysis similar to what you did for the rental unit price ceiling, write a 3 to 5-page analysis, based on sound economic principles, of the proposal.

Note: To create supply and demand curves, solve for equilibrium and discuss what happens if a regulated price is set that is not equal to the equilibrium price.

To create the demand curves that you need for this assignment, create an Excel file with a price column, including prices from $1 to $30. Using the formulas, then compute the quantity demanded each price and quantity supplied for each price. Finally, using the links above, create the graph.

Length: 8 to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation, not including title page and references page

Your presentation should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. Be sure to adhere to Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.

Explain the differences in the amount in these two accounts in terms of TVM

Bob and Lisa are both married, working adults. They both plan for retirement and consider the $2,000 annual contribution a must.

First, consider Lisa’s savings. She began working at age 20 and began making an annual contribution of $2,000 at the first of the year beginning with her first year. She makes 13 contributions. She worked until she was 32 and then left full-time work to have children and be a stay at home mom. She left her IRA invested and plans to begin drawing from her IRA when she is 65.

Bob started his IRA at age 32. The first 12 years of his working career, he used his discretionary income to buy a home, upgrade the family cars, take vacations, and pursue his golfing hobby. At age 32, he made his first $2,000 contribution to an IRA and contributed $2,000 every year up until age 65, a total of 33 years/contributions. He plans to retire at age 65 and make withdrawals from his IRA.

Both IRA accounts grow at a 7% annual rate. Do not consider any tax effect.

A. Using TVM calculate the amount in Lisa’s account when she turns 65

B. Using TVM calculate the amount in Bob’s account when she turns 65

C. Explain the differences in the amount in these two accounts in terms of TVM
