Cyber attacks

Research paper

Your research paper assignment is to write a research paper that explains how defense-in-depth (chapter 6) and awareness (chapter 10) are complimentary techniques to detect emerging threats and strengthen countermeasures.

Remember that your list of sources must be in APA format, and you MUST cite your reference in the body of the paper using APA in-text citation format. A source is any paper or article that you will reference in your paper.

This assignment must be YOUR OWN WORK!  This is an individual assignment. Plagiarism detected in your work will result in a grade of zero for the entire paper.

One of these papers may be from your annotated bibliography assignment. The final paper must be at least 500 words in length.

So in summary, here are the research paper requirements:

2 peer reviewed resources (articles or papers) (1 may be from your annotated bibliography assignment)

Paper MUST address:  How defense-in-depth (chapter 6) and awareness (chapter 10) are complimentary techniques to detect emerging threats and strengthen countermeasures

Cited sources must directly support your paper (i.e. not incidental references)

At least 500 – 550 words in length

Question 2

Chapter 7 discusses situational awareness. Much of the security efforts of the past have been centered around prevention and protection. The increasing sophistication of cyber-attacks have shown that no controls are 100% effective, and some compromises do occur. There is a rising realization that in addition to considering prevention and protection, controls that address detection and response are necessary to improve security posture. Please describe how situational awareness is a driver for detection and response controls. At least 250 – 300 words in length

    • A list of your selected sources cited in APA or Chicago Manual of Style.
    • A one-to-two paragraph summary of each source
      • Secondary Sources:
        • Identify the author’s thesis or the central focus.
        • List two or three main points the author makes to back up the thesis or central focus.
        • Identify a distinguishing feature of this study, such as
          • type of sources examined,
          • theoretical approach,
          • methodology, and
          • author’s position regarding a key historiographic debate associated with the topic.
        • Explain how this source can supply evidence for your final project.
      • Primary Source:
        • Identify the type of source.
        • List information on the author(s) of the source.
        • List information about when and where the source was created.
        • Identify purpose for which piece was originally written.
        • Identify the audience toward whom the piece was originally directed.
        • Explain the historical significance of the source with regard to the topic of your final project.

Prior to completing this portion of the assignment, please view the Quoting, Paraphrasing & Summarizing (Links to an external site.) page, located in the Ashford Writing Center.

For an example of an annotated bibliography entry formatted according to APA standards, see the Ashford Writing Center: http://writingcenter.ashford.edu/annotated-bibliography (Links to an external site.)

Lastly: Create an outline or synopsis of at least three main points that will support your thesis statement, indicating how you will structure your final project. To do so, please follow the guidelines at the Ashford Writing Center for creating an outline: http://writingcenter.ashford.edu/outlining (Links to an external site.)

  • For each main point, write at least one TOPIC SENTENCE—a topic sentence is like a mini thesis statement. (For help developing strong topic sentences, visit the Ashford Writing Center material on writing good paragraphs: Step 2: Develop a Topic Sentence (Links to an external site.).)
  • For each main point, identify and list at least one specific example drawn from the sources listed in your annotated bibliography, indicating which sources you will use.

Gender Development Scenario

1) Gender Development Scenario [WLO: 1] [CLO: 2]

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapter 13 in the textbook and the guide Healthy Gender Development and Young Children: A Guide for Early Childhood Programs and Professionals (Links to an external site.).

Gender roles often determine the traditional responsibilities and tasks assigned to women, men, girls, and boys. Gender-specific roles are often conditioned by household structure, access to resources, specific impacts of the global economy, occurrence of conflict or disaster, and other locally relevant factors such as ecological conditions. Gender roles can evolve over time, in particular through the empowerment of women and transformation of masculinities (European Institute for Gender Equality, 2018, para 1).

For this discussion, you will choose and analyze two videos from the list below. Think about how each scenario relates to theories of gender typing.

Choose two of the following videos:

  • Girl Toys Vs Boy Toys: The Experiment – BBC Stories (Links to an external site.) (BBC Stories, 2017)
  • Stereo – A Film About Reversed Gender Stereotypes (Links to an external site.) (Ella Fields, 2017)
  • Boys and Girls on Stereotypes (Links to an external site.) (New York Magazine, 2018)
  • Mom Argues With Child Over Gender Appropriate Toys (Links to an external site.) (What Would You Do? 2017)

Part 1: Based on what you observed in the two chosen videos, what or who do you think influences gender identity? How is it influenced, and what specifically is influenced?

Part 2: Finally, what are some strategies that stuck out to you from the Healthy gender development and young children: A guide for early childhood programs and professionals (Links to an external site.) and your textbook that would be appropriate to use in your early childhood education (ECE) classroom to minimize gender stereotypes. Please cite and reference the strategies discussed.

(2) Social and Emotional Milestones Newsletter [WLOs: 2, 3] [CLO: 1]

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 10 and 11 in your textbook.

As you may have read in Week 2, skills such as taking a first step, smiling for the first time, and waving “bye bye” are called developmental milestones. Children reach milestones in how they play, learn, speak, act, and move (crawling, walking, etc.) (CDC, 2018, para 1). For this discussion, you will complete the following steps:

  • Complete the learning activity for this week, the Milestones Newsletter Pre-Activity.
  • Once assigned an age, access the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website. Choose the specific web page below based on your assigned age:
    • Infancy: Birth to 12 months: CDC’s Developmental Milestones (Links to an external site.)Checklist
    • Toddler: 1 to 3 years: CDC’s Developmental Milestones (Links to an external site.) Checklist
    • Early childhood: 4 to 8 years
      • CDC’s Developmental Milestones (Links to an external site.) Checklist
      • Child Development: Middle Childhood (6-8 years of age) (Links to an external site.)

Read the checklist for your chosen age focusing on social and emotional milestones.

  • Create a newsletter that could be given to a parent with a child who is the age that you’ve been assigned. In the newsletter, describe the social and emotional milestones that should occur among typically developing children. Next, discuss at least five strategies or tips for parents or caregivers to support the child’s social and emotional development at this age. Remember to describe each component in detail to provide parents with a clear understanding. Your newsletter needs to be visually appealing and capture parents’ attention. Include appropriate pictures relevant to the topic, bolded headings, and colorful fonts. To see examples of appropriate newsletters, please utilize the website Preschool Newsletter Templates (Links to an external site.)
  • Attach your newsletter as your initial post for the discussion.

Describe the topics you will use for these 3 assignments (look at the Assignments link to see detailed descriptions of the assignments):

Describe the topics you will use for these 3 assignments (look at the Assignments link to see detailed descriptions of the assignments):

  • Week 3 Speech: Informative Topic
  • Week 5 Position Paper: Debatable Topic
  • Week 7 Analysis Paper: Debatable Topic

Describe a topic you will use for each of these assignments for the Week 2 Forum. You may want to start this process by thinking of your field of study (some hints are shown in the lesson). As you think about your topics, keep in mind your purpose (to inform and persuade). Decide if you need to narrow your topic a bit. Think about your audience and how you can help your reader understand the topic. You can talk about these things in your forum post.  See example post below.

An informative topic informs the reader of a topic.

A debatable topic (or persuasive topic) is a topic that people can agree or disagree and will have many alternative viewpoints.

*** Since you are all majoring in different fields of study, some of you may be using APA, some of you may be using Chicago Turabian or some of you may be using MLA for your citations, please tell me in your post which notation style you are using.***

EXAMPLE POST:

“I am an education major. I want to become a teacher. So topics that are interesting in my field of education are learning, bilingual education and school shootings.  For my speech, my topic will be ‘How to motivate students to learn.’ For my Position paper, I will write about ‘The Benefits of Bilingual Education.’ For my Analysis paper, I will write about ‘Arming teachers in the classroom will not deter school shootings.’ This is how I will make my speech topic more specific: I will motivate my students to learn by providing interesting lessons, have stimulating group projects, and engage in fun discussions.  For my Position paper topic, I will add details to my topic by saying that ‘The benefits of Bilingual Education include allowing students to retain their first language, heritage, and permitting students to learn English little by little. For my Analysis paper topic, I will add details on my topic by…”
