A note about your examples: For this project, we are specifically looking for examples that relate to the marketing of products or services. There are many corporate scandals that have nothing to do with marketing. While you may see other types of scandals in our discussion this week, for this project, you should select marketing-specific examples. As a tip, you can search for illegal or unethical practices related to product quality, pricing, advertising and promotion or distribution, since these are the pillars of the marketing mix!

evaluate the artifact and explain how each of the concepts applies to the video.

For this assignment, students are required to apply chapter major concepts in a professor-designed assignment.

Students will evaluate the artifact and explain how each of the concepts applies to the video. The focus is on correct application of chapter major concepts. This is not an assignment that requires students to “find the answers.” It requires students to apply the chapter major concepts in their own words to the video.

Discussion Board Forum

Overview

After a budget has been completed, it must be implemented or carried out. Like the other stages of the process, the execution of a budget is unavoidably political. This stage provides ample opportunity for tension between the legislative and executive branches and between various political actors as they compete for control over policy. As the conditions and realities that existed when the budget was enacted often change, the execution of the budget also involves the balancing of stability with flexibility and often competition between those who seek to see the budget faithfully implemented and those who would seek to achieve in execution what they were not able to achieve in thier efforts to shape the budget. This week we will explore the political nature of budget execution.

Discussion Board Forum 3

Topic: The Politics of Budget Implementation

After public budgets have been created and passed, they must be implemented. This implementation phase often creates a tension between the executive and legislative branches of government and opportunities for political influence in the final result of a budget. For this week’s discussion board post, please explain political interests that may seek to alter a budget in the implementation stage, methods that may be used to alter a public budget or it’s effects, and the balance between fidelity and flexibility that may be necessary to address changing circumstances.

Sick Role Model

When a person becomes sick, he or she may demonstrate a variety of behaviors. Some people like to be left alone while others may seek assistance. Some people will act well even when they are sick. They may even feel guilty for not being able to do their work or take responsibilities.

What are the four aspects of the sick role model (Parsons 1951)? According to Parsons, medicine is an institution for the social control of deviant behavior. Do you agree or disagree with this view? Why or why not?

What is the patient-physician relationship according to Cockerham? Which two sociological examples of the sick role, as evidenced by existing research, do you think are most appropriate? Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning.

Complementary and Alternative medicine (CAM) —An analysis

“CAM therapies have been in existence for hundreds of years. While many of these therapies are commonly used in non-Western societies their popularity is increasing steadily. In fact, large numbers of American consumers are using CAM currently in an effort to pre-empt disease and disability or to promote health and a sense of well-being.”

(Source: Kirschstein, R. I., Acting Director, National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, National Institutes of Health, AMSA, 2008.)

How effective do you think CAM is in comparison to clinical treatment and diagnosis? Justify your answer. Identify and discuss at least 10 types of treatments offered by CAM practitioners. Analyze and present at least one case that shows the positive effect of CAM and one that shows the negative effect. What is the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) role in CAM research? Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning and comment on the postings of at least two peers.
