Without violating confidentiality, provide background information on your subject (or group/situation), including behaviors observed, any medical information that is available, socio-cultural factors that might affect treatment, etc.

Report Issue

This Case Study is to demonstrate increased knowledge/growth in your ability to identify behaviors and to communicate about treatment. You will demonstrate course-related knowledge in speaking more “deeply” about 1 specific client or complete a case study on a historical or fictional character. Your case study will identify specific behaviors and how those behaviors are evaluated in light of a specific theory.

You will also identify ways that specific behaviors can be addressed in a manner consistent with the theories of your field.(Psychology) (Domestic & Sexual Violence)

· Without violating confidentiality, provide background information on your subject (or group/situation), including behaviors observed, any medical information that is available, socio-cultural factors that might affect treatment, etc.

· Provide information about current behaviors, specifically maladaptive behaviors, and current treatment plans/progress.

· Using knowledge gained in your study of psychology in general and/or your cognate in particular, provide a brief theoretical explanation of your case. (This treatment plan may be hypothetical.)

The paper must fulfil the following criteria:

· 3–4 pages (This does not include title, abstract or reference pages) Therefore, 6-7 pages total includes title, abstract and reference page.

· Current APA format

· This document must maintain the strictest level of confidentiality.

Explain the distinction between personal ethics and values and professional ethics and values evident in the social work profession in addressing this community.

Heterosexism is defined as “thediscrimination or prejudice by heterosexuals against homosexuals” (merriam-webster.com) and is predicated on the belief that being heterosexual is the norm and the only accepted type of relationship.

Everyday heterosexism is exemplified in our media, our policies, and daily practices. By making these assumptions, social workers can be in part culpable for the oppression and marginalization experienced by the LGBTQ community.

As a profession, social work embraces diversity and strives to ensure equal rights for all. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is committed to supporting the needs of these groups and, in turn, they created the National Committee on Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues. During this week’s discussion you will be asked to consider how one’s own personal views on sexual orientation may clash with the profession’s stance.

  1. Post a scenario of how a social worker’s personal, ethical, and moral values in relation to the LGBTQ community might conflict with those of their clients.
  2. Explain the distinction between personal ethics and values and professional ethics and values evident in the social work profession in addressing this community.
  3. Be specific and explain how this distinction relates to the scenario you posted.
  4. Also explain how prejudice and bias might create barriers to fulfilling your professional responsibility to the LGBTQ community.

Discussion 2: Moral Development Theory and Bullying

Bullying is not a new phenomenon, but social media and communication technologies have introduced a breadth and depth to which public shaming, targeted taunting, and bullying have manifested. For this Discussion, consider how bullying has changed and how it has remained the same in light of modern technology.

  1. Post an explanation of one moral development theory and its connection to the act of bullying.
  2. Be sure to frame your explanation within the context of cyber and other bullying that persists in social media and communication technologies used by adolescents.
  3. Also explain how bullying has changed and how it has remained the same in light of modern technology.

Discussion 3: Bullying: Cycle of Events

Bearing witness to trauma has its own set of consequences. Watching repeated episodes of bullying can evoke strong emotional and behavioral responses from an adolescent. During the impressionable stage of social development in adolescents, these experiences can contribute to a change in perception about the ways people should and do treat each other. Furthermore, ongoing exposure to this behavior can jeopardize an adolescent’s healthy social development. For this Discussion, consider how the act of bullying experienced by one adolescent may change the experience of another who witnesses it.

  1. Post a scenario that illustrates how bullying experienced by one adolescent may change the experience of another who witnesses it.
  2. Then address the availability of any social work intervention, skill, or practice that might change this cycle of events.

Discuss how to use learning theories (behaviorism, social cognitive, information processing and Constructivism) as change agents.

Option 7: Industrial/Organizational Psychology Presentation

Watch the “What Prevents Change in Business?” video available on the student website.

In the video, the narrator states, “But a communication program, which should be clear and consistent, should also be addressing those aspects of the staff relationship that you need to have to make organizational change work for you and for your stakeholders.”

Prepare a 10-minute Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation with speaker notes to improve their effectiveness as communicators of the organizational change process.

Address the following in your presentation:

·         Discuss how to use learning theories (behaviorism, social cognitive, information processing and Constructivism) as change agents.

·         Address aspects of employee resistance.

·         Discuss characteristics of  external resistance.

Option 8 Industrial/Organizational Psychology Journal Article

Watch the “What Prevents Change in Business?” video available on the student website.

In the video, the narrator states, “But a communication program, which should be clear and consistent, should also be addressing those aspects of the staff relationship that you need to have to make organizational change work for you and for your stakeholders.”

Prepare a 3- to 5-page journal article on how to use learning theories (behaviorism, social cognitive, information processing and constructivism) to improve their effectiveness as communicators of organizational change process. Consider your target audience to be change agents.

Address the following in your journal article:

·         Discuss how to use learning theories (behaviorism, social cognitive, information processing and Constructivism) as change agents.

·         Address aspects of employee resistance.

·         Discuss characteristics of external resistance.

Identify an instrument from the Smith-Osborne and Whitehill Bolton’s article that would be appropriate when employing a single-subject design to evaluate how effective the intervention is in increasing the client’s level of resiliency.

Social workers strive to make informed decisions about the interventions they implement. These decisions should be driven by what the research data say. As a result, social workers have been called to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions they implement. A common way to evaluate interventions is to use a single-subject design. This involves monitoring an outcome for an intervention implemented for one client. After a social worker works with the client to determine the outcome to be measured, the following steps to the evaluation might look like this:

  • Administer the instrument before the intervention is implemented
  • Implement the intervention
  • Administer the same instrument, after a specified time period
  • Monitor to determine if there have been any changes in the outcome

In this Discussion, you use the lens of resiliency theory when reflecting on a case from your fieldwork, and then you consider how to measure the effectiveness of a possible intervention.

To prepare, read this article listed in the Learning Resources:

  • Smith-Osborne, A., & Whitehill Bolton K. (2013). Assessing resilience: A review of measures across the life course. Journal of Evidence-Based Social Work, 10(2), 111–126. doi:10.1080/15433714.2011.597305

Post:

  • Reflect on your fieldwork experience, and identify a case where it would have been beneficial to employ resiliency theory. Describe the case in 2 sentences.
  • Describe the presenting problem in one concise sentence.
  • Describe an intervention you would implement to promote resiliency.
  • Identify an instrument from the Smith-Osborne and Whitehill Bolton’s article that would be appropriate when employing a single-subject design to evaluate how effective the intervention is in increasing the client’s level of resiliency.
  • Explain why you selected the instrument.
    • In other words, why would the instrument be appropriate? (Consider the age of the client and for whom the instrument was designed, how feasible it would be to administer the instrument such as cost, time to administer it, et.
