discuss the diagnostic possibilities, including both psychiatric diagnostic possibilities and other causes

Considering the indicated symptoms for all three cases below you are required to:discuss the diagnostic possibilities, including both psychiatric diagnostic possibilities and other causes. indicate the possible etiologies in a general way and the steps you would take to diagnose, treat, and manage these cases, with consideration of pharmacological interventionYou don’t need to discuss every detail of your treatment – just write from the standpoint of a clinical psychotherapist who does not prescribe medication, but coordinates care with physicians who do.Your responses must be 2-3 pages in length per case.  Please include a title and reference page. This assignment must be typed, double-spaced, and must be written at graduate level English. Application and APA referencing of the course text and other sources are required. You are required to include Cultural and Ethical considerations in your responses. You must include how your own cultural beliefs, values, possible biases and stereotyping that may affect your clinical perspective. Legal and ethical issues must also be addressed.   You are required to use a minimum of three (3) professional resources other than the course text, taken from the Internet, the University Virtual Library or scholarly articles, to enhance your responses. Case Studies:  Respond to all three (3):1. Bob is a 47-year-old Native-American man who comes to you with his wife of 15 years. He appears agitated and complains that he feels anxious. His wife reports that Bob has had a lot of trouble sitting still, frequently jumping up and pacing. While he has been this way throughout their marriage, it is getting increasingly worse. Bob tells you that he is a lot like his abusive father, who died of alcoholism.  Bob feels that if he drank, he’d be able to relax, but swore he would never be like his father. The wife tells you that the children are frightened when Bob gets agitated as he has punched holes in walls. You notice the wife looks frightened when you ask her if she feels the children are safe in the home.

2. Steven is a 7-year-old Asian-American first grade student brought to treatment by his mother. He has been disruptive in class. His teacher and the school counselor are strongly urging that Steven be put on medication for ADHD, but his mother is reluctant to do so.  Steven is described as exceptionally gifted and appears bored in the classroom.  His mother tells you that Steven is impatient and rageful to his younger sisters at home. She is afraid Steven is taking after his abusive father, who no longer lives in the home due to domestic violence. She tells you that their father is allowed to visit the children in the home under her supervision.

3. Melinda is an exceptionally bright, 17-year-old African-American young woman, in her first year at a state college. Both parents accompany her to your office. When she came home for spring break, she started talking nonsense, saying that the college’s biology department is using a high powered laser to alter the DNA in her brain. She has always been an “A” student and has never shown any sign of psychiatric disturbance prior to this.

How would you help Jamila develop a plan to manage the current   crisis?

Sometimes clients come into the counseling session with an   immediate crisis. They need an immediate solution to a problem. Counseling in   these situations needs to be focused and goal oriented.

Jamila has been working with her counselor on learning to better   manage her 9-year-old son. Last night, her son was hit by a car and is   in the hospital. This has created a number of problems:

1. She has to arrange childcare for her daughter so she can stay   with her son in the hospital.

2. He will need some special care when he gets home because he   will be in a wheelchair.

3. She is fearful that she will lose her job as a teacher’s aide   in the local public school.

Write a 500-750-word paper addressing the following:

1. How would you prioritize Jamila’s concerns in the counseling   session? What would you address first?

2. What steps would you take in this session to make sure that   Jamila has the resources she needs right now?

3. How would you help Jamila develop a plan to manage the current   crisis?

Include at least three scholarly references in your paper within the last 5 years.

Review Chapter 9 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay attention to the descriptions and examples of linear and nonlinear relationships, positive and negative linear relationships, and curvilinear relationships.

How two things are related or the degree to which they are related is often a question in any area of research, including forensic psychology research. A researcher might ask these questions: To what degree are drug use and criminal recidivism related? Are mental illness and violence related? To what degree is an increase in police patrols related to a decrease in crime rates?

Each of these forensic psychology research questions can be addressed using a correlational design. Correlational designs help determine if there is a relationship between variables. The relationship may be positive, meaning there is a positive linear relationship between the two variables; the relationship may be negative, which means there is a weak or nonexistent linear relationship between the two variables; or, the relationship may be curvilinear, which means that at times there appears to be a relationship and at times there does not.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review Chapter 9 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay attention to the descriptions and examples of linear and nonlinear relationships, positive and negative linear relationships, and curvilinear relationships.
  • Consider how these relationships are determined and what impact each type of relationship may have on a researcher’s ability to make predictions.
  • Using the Walden Library, select and review two or three articles on criminal recidivism, violent crime, or domestic violence in which the variables have positive and negative linear relationships.
  • Consider the implications if the variables had a curvilinear relationship instead.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a description of two variables that have a positive linear relationship and two variables that have a negative linear relationship in the research articles you reviewed. Then, explain the implications on the studies if each of those variables had a curvilinear relationship instead.

Discuss how the three components, police, courts, and corrections, apply to this case.

Matching exercises give you an opportunity to practice definitions and develop logical and critical thinking skills. By using such techniques as inversion, diversion, and the process of elimination, you are able to greatly increase the probability of answering questions correctly. This is an important skill to have, as it is commonly found on nearly all standardized tests and increases critical thinking.

The objective of this exercise is to understand the process of American criminal justice including the stages of criminal case processing.

Unit 1 Practice Activity

Complete the Unit 1 Assignment: What happened to the Lindbergh baby?

Resource: Chapter 1 of your text.

The ability to think critically is a key skill for success in the criminal justice field. It means not taking what you heard or read at face value, but using your critical thinking faculties to weigh up the evidence and consider the implications and conclusions of the situation.

The criminal justice system encompasses three main components: Police, courts, and corrections. These three components interrelate in several ways. First, they interact in the processing of specific cases. For example, police officers’ conduct investigations and make arrests. Offenders must then be processed by the court system, but police officers play a critical role in this process, as they might confer with prosecutors or testify at motion hearings or trials. If an offender is convicted, prosecutors might recommend the sentence and judges may consider prison overcrowding issues when deciding the final sentence.

Second, these components interact at a policy level. The formal and informal decision-making processes of each component can impact the strategies and priorities of the other components. Third, the components are increasingly working together in various ways to respond to specific types of crimes. The interactions between components often result in conflict. Each component focuses on achieving different goals, and the priorities of the different components may not be consistent.

Review the details of the Lindbergh Baby Case.

Write a 700–1,050 word analysis of the Lindbergh case. Include the following components in your discussion:

  • Discuss how the three components, police, courts, and corrections, apply to this case.
  • Discuss first appearance, preliminary hearing, and arraignment as they apply to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
  • Discuss adjudication as it applies to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
  • Discuss sentencing as it applies to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
  • Discuss corrections as it applies to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping.
