How well do you manage these aspects of your health now?

Please choose one assignment from the following options to submit for this week’s response. Please type up your response according to the guidelines listed in the syllabus (12 point, Times New Roman font, with 1-inch margins and double-spacing), and upload your assignment as a WORD or PDF attachment at the bottom of this assignment.

Your response will be evaluated on the basis of: a) how well you demonstrate an understanding of and engagement with the course material; b) the clarity and quality of your writing; c) your overall effort on the assignment. Remember that quality of writing is valued over quantity. The assignment will be graded on a scale of 0-10 points, and the grader’s comments and grade should be available to you within one week of the original posting date.

The weekly assignments correspond with the assigned readings and lecture material from the last two weeks. The questions posed in each option are designed to help guide your thinking and response. You are not required to respond to all (or even any) of the listed questions, although your responses should be organized in some way. As with any writing assignment, providing sufficient background information to your topic and offering specific examples to support your views will make your ideas clearer and more convincing.

You are welcome to write beyond the minimum page requirement for the assignment.

Option 1:

In a 2-page response, write out your plan for staying healthy at the university. As options, you may want to consider your physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological and sexual health. How well do you manage these aspects of your health now? How will you continue to manage your health in conjunction with your studies, work, social life and other things that eat up your time and attention? Do you have any specific health targets you’d like to achieve? How do you plan to meet your goals, and what campus resources can you use to help you in this process? You need not address all of these questions in your response, they are offered as a means to help you start thinking about this topic.

Discuss the specifics of Plessy v. Ferguson (1896). Please include in your answer the basic facts of the case, the specific legal claim that Mr. Plessy made about the Equal Protection Clause and the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding segregation and the Equal Protection Clause

This exam will count 40% of your grade.  There are 5 questions here – DO ONLY FOUR. Each question is worth 25 points. If you do 5 I will only grade the 1st four answers – I will neither read nor count the 5th. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ONCE YOU LEAVE THE EXAM YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RETURN!

1) Looking back at the US Constitution as first ratified (including only the first 10 amendments), identify four “major” parts that helped preserve slavery. I need the specific citation where it is located. The specific wording in the Constitution, And finally a clear statement as to exactly how each individual part of the constitution helped preserve slavery.

2) Discuss the specifics of Plessy v. Ferguson (1896). Please include in your answer the basic facts of the case, the specific legal claim that Mr. Plessy made about the Equal Protection Clause and the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding segregation and the Equal Protection Clause. I want what you believe to be the key parts of the decision to be included in your answer.

3) The Ku Klux Klan first appeared during Reconstruction. It would almost disappear several times. What were the major historic events and the key issues in the 1920’s and the 1950’s that led to the 1st and then 2nd Revival? KKK Documentary

4) Many people look at Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas (1955) as the beginning of the Modern Civil Rights Movement and the 1964 Civil Rights Act as the end of it. Describe in detail Brown and the 1964 Act, explaining the key parts of both and what each said specifically about state segregation laws. It is important to include what you believe are the central parts of the Brown ruling as well as the 1964 Act.

5) The 1964 Civil Rights Act made state segregation laws illegal.  It also made discrimination in employment based on Gender illegal. The 1965 Voting Rights Act made it illegal for states to have race based laws that blocked or interfered with voting based on race. And yet from recent events of violence and death seemingly based on race, gender, religion and nationality, the laws are not working or they are not being enforced.  The KKK Documentary predicted another revival and it appears that is true. I guess the simple question is where do we go from here. There is turmoil in Hong Kong. And many other places around the globe. What are your expectations? What steps must be taken politically and culturally to bring peace and progress? Good Luck!

Specific Paper Content

Introduce the topic of your paper and briefly describe in your own words the two different types of declarative memories.

In the second paragraph:

Summarize the Information Processing Model of memory including the 3 major components (Sensory Register, Working Memory, and Long-term memory). Indicate the flow of information between these 3 processes as declarative information is stored in and subsequently retrieved from Long-term Memory.

In the next 4-5 paragraphs:

Begin by briefly describing lifelogging, especially the type of information that is stored. Indicate which type of declarative memory it corresponds to. In the next 3-4 paragraphs, describe 1 way in which lifelog memory differs from Long-Term Memory on 3 of the following the 6 dimensions: (1) encoding and storing, (2) retrieval, (3) organization of memories, (4) forgetting (decay theory), and (5) forgetting (interference theory). Finally, discuss 1 possible modification to the procedure used by the lifelog system to make it more similar to human LTM and explain how this modification accomplishes this goal.

In the next 1-2 paragraphs:

Transition to the second form of digital memory – information stored on web pages. Indicate which type of declarative memory it is most similar to. Explain how “surfing the web” is similar to processes in human long-term memory.

In the final paragraph:

Describe what type of information is most important for people to store in Long Term Memory if it becomes easier to store and retrieve information in a digital form in the future. Briefly explain why.
