What are the possible ways of building reciprocal relationships with this family?

Microsystem Case Discussion

For this discussion, you will need to address the issues of Case 14, “Tomasito Is Too Big to Hold Hands” (Weiss et al., pp. 149–157). Use the following questions to guide your discussion:

  1. How do family processes influence Tomasito’s development?
  2. How does Tomasito’s sense of connectedness affect his motivation to learn? How does it affect those around him and the way they support his learning?
  3. If you were sharing the results of math work and math assessments with Tomasito and his family, how would you go about doing that to optimize his future success in the subject?
  4. What are the possible ways of building reciprocal relationships with this family? Which do you think are the most appropriate and why? What support can be offered and how can parents be encouraged to be more involved?

Use examples from the case study and other appropriate reading to support your responses. This discussion will help you complete your assignment for the unit. Review the postings of others to help you complete your assignment for this week.

Unit 3 Discussion 2

Motivation

Very young children are usually highly motivated to learn (such as exploring gravity by dropping things from the highchair), but this often declines as they grow. With your readings in mind, think about your own motivational drive. What pushes you the most: extrinsic or intrinsic factors? How did your educational environments in the past and today support or detract from this motivation?

Developmental Milestones

Developmental Milestones

Special education teachers often consult and train staff members. Consideration of typical development and achievement of developmental milestones can help staff determine if a student may need a referral for a special education evaluation. This information is often used to select assessments and the effects of a possible disability. When teachers understand the effect of a disability on learning, they are able to prepare the classroom environment and use selected strategies to support students with disabilities.

Use the “Developmental Milestones In-service” to create a 15-20 slide professional development digital presentation for staff members, which outlines the typical cognitive, linguistic, physical, social, and emotional developmental milestones of children pre-K to Grade 3.

Within your presentation, describe what developmental milestones are and why they are important. Include examples of how these milestones may present differently for students without and for students with the six types of disability categories. Include at least one academic strategy and one environmental strategy (how you would change the classroom environment) for each disability.

Include a title slide, reference slide, and presenter’s notes.

A minimum of 3-5 scholarly sources are required.

While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

Analyze social, economic, cultural contexts and demographics that influence who adult learners are and what they learn.

Note:  Do not use the real name of the organization you will describe in this assignment.

Write a five to six (5-6) page paper in which you:

  1. Provide an overview of the organization for which you are to develop the training.  The overview should include, at a minimum, the organization’s mission, vision, management structure, corporate culture, geographic location(s), community involvement, and experience in providing training and development activities.
  2. Specify the task(s) for which the training is being developed.  Analyze the most significant elements or steps for performing each task and examine the importance the task(s) to the organization’s overall mission.
  3. Describe at least five (5) characteristics of the intended audience for the training. For example, describe the number of potential learners, type of learners, reading levels, gender, ages, culture, language(s) they use, and attitude toward learning. Evaluate the intended audience’s level of familiarity with technology overall.
  4. Assess the degree to which the members of your intended audience are self-directed in their learning overall. Suggest the manner in which their self-directedness—or lack thereof—may affect the likelihood that they would successfully compete the training.
  5. Select the theoretical basis for the planned training (i.e., andragogy or one of the other theoretical models on adult learning). Provide a rationale for your selection.
  6. Propose at least two (2) strategies to incorporate key aspect of the selected theoretical model into the design and delivery of the planned training.
  7. Use at least five (5) reputable Websites and scholarly articles for this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA format.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Analyze social, economic, cultural contexts and demographics that influence who adult learners are and what they learn.
  • Analyze the basic principles of selected teaching and learning theories.
  • Evaluate the methods that businesses and other post-secondary education environments use to respond to adult learning needs.
  • Analyze the principles of andragogy and selected teaching and learning theories.
  • Use technology and information resources to research issues, current trends, theories, and learning strategies for adult learning and development.
  • Write clearly and correctly about issues in adult learning and development using proper writing mechanics.

Describe your expectations for the role teachers must play in promoting the health and safety of children in their care. Include the topics of immunizations, teachers as health screeners, physical fitness, and safety in the classroom.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, “Obesity as a young child is associated with poor health and emotional well-being in childhood and may lead to an array of health problems later in life including a higher risk of being an obese adult” (as cited in Weissman & Hendrick, 2014, p. 205). As educators and caregivers, we play a tremendous role in nurturing physical development in those children in our care. By effectively doing our part to nurture physical development in young children, we are one step closer to becoming a Whole Teacher.

Your discussion on physical development will be based on the following scenario:

For an upcoming staff meeting, you have decided to create a presentation on the topic of physical development.  The goal of your presentation is to not only to remind your staff how important their role is in the physical development of children, but also to begin a conversation about what materials might be needed by your staff and why. To get the conversation going you decide to propose your idea of an exemplary classroom environment, and then ask your staff to do the same.

Initial Post: Using digital tools such as  Screencast (Links to an external site.) or Jing (Links to an external site.), create a brief presentation for your staff where you will describe the importance of the physical development of young children and how to promote it. (If you are unable to use one of the digital tools listed above, please contact your instructor for additional options.)

In your presentation:

  • Describe your expectations for the role teachers must play in promoting the health and safety of children in their care. Include the topics of immunizations, teachers as health screeners, physical fitness, and safety in the classroom.
  • Explain how teachers can utilize each of the basic principles of physical development (i.e.,predictable patterns and sequences, development moves from head-to-tail, and large-to fine-muscle control) to assist them in setting up their classroom environment to promote physical development.
  • Provide specific examples and/or scholarly research to support the use of these basic principles.
  • Interpret how the basic priniciples of physical development specifically align with developmental theory. Provide specific examples and research from at least one scholarly resource that will illustrate this point for your staff.
