Description and question: It is September. Jake, who is in grade 2 (7 years old), has just transferred to your school in Big City school board, from Small Rural school board. The teacher immediately notices that Jake is not achieving at the level of the other children in the class and that he is demonstrating some challenging behaviours. As the school psychologist, you are asked to consult. You immediately request his Ontario Student Record, hoping to understand Jake better and are surprised to see no assessments in the file, just notes regarding concerns about lack of achievement and reports of behavioural challenges. You have been asked to recommend measures/ tests to provide a comprehensive assessment for Jake across cognitive (intellectual & language), socio-emotional and environmental areas. Describe the specific measures you would use and why. Provide a rationale based on the psychometric properties of the measures (reliability and validity). Describe the reliability and validity for the measures where available. If you feel that there is information missing, describe how you would create an appropriate measure to fill in the missing information. All references attached.
