National Association of Social Workers, 1996

The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human wellbeing and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of people who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty. A historic and defining feature of social work is the profession’s focus on individual well-being in a social context and the well-being of society. Fundamental to social work is attention to the environmental forces that create, contribute to, and address problems in living.” (National Association of Social Workers, 1996)

The safety professional

Consider that you are the safety professional on a large construction project. Currently, you have scaffolds being used by the masons, you have ladders that are being used by the electricians and plumbers, and there are several excavations ongoing. If you look at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards that require it, what would your plan be for ensuring all of these were inspected by a competent person?

OSHA’s multi-employer policy directive

For this exercise, we are looking at how OSHA would view the project, what they could issue violations for, who they could issue them to, and how we would correct these violations. We also are discussing our plan for when an OSHA Compliance Officer (CSHO) shows up.
“Using the scenario and OSHA’s multi-employer policy directive, for what types of violations could OSHA cite, and to whom would the citations be issued? Why?”
In other words, “Who” would be issued citations, and under which classification(s)? (creating, exposing, correcting, controlling).
“After the OSHA inspection, what would be your next course of action to correct these violations? What would your response plan be?”

Personal Power and Influence

Prepare a 2–3-page paper (500–700 words), not including the title and reference pages, regarding your personal power and influence.
First, introduce a goal you would like to achieve by increasing the commitment of others. Next, using Table 8-1: Essentially Ethical and Honest Influence Tactic in Chapter 8 of the text (DuBrin, 2019), select two items from the list of interest to you and conduct research on how to effectively use each tactic.
Then, using the Leadership Self-Assessments found in Chapter 8 of the text (DuBrin, 2019), : Survey of Influence Tactics and : The Leader Ingratiating Checklist, analyze your current level of influence and your level of ingratiating behaviour. Identify one-to-two opportunities for development. Provide recommendations to increase your personal power and influence development based on your research and analysis. Finally, conclude with a summary of the primary points of the paper and provide a call to action.
