Translating credible research into practice using informatics
With six generations of nurses in the workforce, how do you influence and assist nurses that are from the baby boomer generation to embrace informatics? Have you encountered situations where nurses are not aware of how to search for credible and scholarly information that can change their practice and improve patient outcomes? How do you work with nurses who have a hard time with technology and informatics literacy?
Have you heard of Carequality? This group has integrated many healthcare electronic healthcare records vendors and networks to look at interoperability. Agreements have been made across the providers and networks in this group. The current count is that approximately 150,000,000 documents are shared each month through the connections made under the Carequality agreement. My workplace is integrated into this system and uses the Carequality health information exchange. Our nurses are able to retrieve discharge summaries, lab work, and physician notes that contribute to the continuum of care for our chronic patients with kidney disease. Does your workplace have any sharing mechanisms in place between providers?
