Describe motivational factors that led you to enroll at college and that keep you enrolled. Then explain how these motivational factors might change as you progress from your first days at Walden to your first or second year.

Discussion: Media, Technology, Peer Pressure, Violence, and Current Events

In your post, consider how a potential media stronghold over children and adolescents could lead to depressive symptoms.
For example, think about the media and its obsession with thinness, and particularly how this impacts female adolescents and the young-adult population. What do you think the relation is between over-viewing of idealized and unrealistic media portrayals and depressive symptoms?
Explain how rapidly depressive symptoms can lead to troublesome behaviors in direct correlation to media influence. Also reference co-morbid disorders that could potentially develop, such as eating disorders. Please research at least one real-world example to support your claims.

To Prepare

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources on intrinsic and extrinsic motivations and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
  • Reflect on your motives for enrolling at Walden and consider how your motives might change as you progress in your studies.  Identify intrinsic and extrinsic motivations that will keep you motivated to complete your degree.
  • Review the resources on culture and motivation. Think about how culture affects motivation.

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, please review your completed Week 1 Written Assignment, and the assignment instructions for the Week 2 Annotated Bibliography, Week 3 Annotated Outline and the Week 5 Final Project. This assignment will focus on the research and scholarly sources for your Final Project, again using the same neuropsychological disorder you selected as your focus for the Week 1 Written Assignment already completed. At this time, please look for additional resources to help you discuss your selected neuropsychological disorder (this is the same as the disorder you wrote about in the Week 1 assignment). With the exception of the DSM-5, you may cite and reference course materials such as the textbook, required or recommended reading, or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.

For this assignment, be sure to complete and submit the Annotated Bibliography TemplatePreview the document to Waypoint.

Complete the following:

Find at least six to eight scholarly and/or peer-reviewed sources that were published within the last five years, including a minimum of two original research studies that discuss your selected neuropsychological disorder, which you selected for the Week 1 assignment. For further information, please review the Original Research Study Tipsheet (Links to an external site.).

Plan on using these sources in this assignment, as well as your Week 3 assignment and your Final Project (Week 5 assignment).

This will allow you to select, read, and summarize your sources to determine how you will use them in your Final Project, and will also allow your instructor to provide feedback on your selection and understanding of these sources.

You may reuse the references you used in completing your Week 1 assignment. You may use the DSM-5 as one of your resources.

With the exception of the DSM-5, you may cite and reference course materials such as the textbook, required or recommended reading, or multimedia, but these will not fulfill the source requirement.

Include a full reference citation in APA format for each resource.

Summarize each resource in a paragraph (do not copy the article’s abstract—this summary should be in your own words).

Describe how you plan to use this source in your Week 3 outline that you will write next week.

The Final Project Annotated Bibliography

For further assistance with the formatting and the title page, refer to APA Formatting for Word 2013 (Links to an external site.).

Must include at least six to eight scholarly or peer-reviewed sources to complete this annotated bibliography.

The Scholarly, Peer-Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources (Links to an external site.) table offers additional guidance on appropriate source types and the Ashford University Quick ‘n’ Dirty (Links to an external site.) video provides library search tips. If you have questions about whether a specific source is appropriate for this assignment, please contact your instructor. Your instructor has the final say about the appropriateness of a specific source for a particular assignment.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.) for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.
