Examine Adler’s 3 safeguarding tendencies in the text. Select 1 of the tendencies and compare that tendency with instances of safeguarding that you find in Scripture. Demonstrate how that situation would have been improved if safeguarding tendencies were not used.

Essay Instructions

The Essay assignments occur in Module 2, Module 4, Module 6 and Module 8. Each essay should be in APA format and should discuss the required prompt. This assignment does not require a Title page or Abstract page, but does require a Reference page and in-text citations.

Each essay will review a different topic from the text and will also link each topic with Scripture. Each essay should have a word count of at least 500 words.

Using the Jerry Falwell Library, select two full-text, scholarly (peer-reviewed) journal articles that directly relate to the topic for each essay. The textbook may be used, but does not count toward the two required scholarly references.

Essay Topics

Module 2: Examine Adler’s 3 safeguarding tendencies in the text. Select 1 of the tendencies and compare that tendency with instances of safeguarding that you find in Scripture. Demonstrate how that situation would have been improved if safeguarding tendencies were not used.

Module 4: Identify Maslow’s 5 basic assumptions regarding motivation as well as Maslow’s Heirarchy of Needs. Discuss each assumption and hierarchy level. Include specific examples from Scripture regarding motivation.

Module 6: Review the section in Chapter 13 titled “In Search of the Big Five” (pgs. 381 – 392) as well as the article “Big Five Personality Factors and Facets as Predictors of Openness to Diversity” (Han & Pistole, 2017). Select one of the Five-Factors and discuss how this factor relates to an open attitude toward diversity as related to Costa and McCrae’s Five-Factor Model of Personality?

Module 8: Analyze the 4 common elements in most human disturbance according to Kelly (threat, fear, anxiety, and guilt). Compare each of these constructs with what Scripture says regarding these particular elements.

Do you believe that you now know everything you need to know about critical thinking – or is learning to think critically a life-long task? Explain your answer.

  • Required Resources
Read/review the following resources for this activity:

    • Textbook: Chapter 16
    • Lesson

    Introduction
Remember – these journal questions require more thinking than writing. Think about exactly what you are asked to do, and then write as economically as possible.

    Instructions

    • Critical Thinking
      • Go back to your very first journal entry – review your definition of critical thinking. After studying critical thinking for the past eight weeks, would you change your definition in any way? If yes, how and why? If no – if it was perfect – what parts of the text were best reflected in your definition?
    • Heart of the Matter
      • Recall in your first journal entry that you discussed the authors’ statement that the concepts in Chapters 12, 13 and 14 were “the heart of the matter.” After having studied those chapters, answer again, with renewed understanding, the question posed there: Why do you think the authors find these concepts important to critical thinking?
    • Ethical Decision-Making
      • The lecture claims that an argument is no good unless it has a “strong and reasoned ethical base.” Do you agree that ethics is an essential element of a good argument? If yes, why? If no, why not?
    • Looking Forward
      • Do you believe that you now know everything you need to know about critical thinking – or is learning to think critically a life-long task? Explain your answer.

    Writing Requirements (APA format)

    • Length: 2 pages (not including title page or references page)
    • 1-inch margins
    • Double spaced
    • 12-point Times New Roman font
    • Title page
    • References page

Post by Day 4 a brief description of the culture you selected. Then, explain one way this culture may influence risk factors for violence and aggression and why.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resource on your own before you bid. One of the references must come from Flamez, B. & Sheperis, C. J. (2015) and/or Sommers-Flanagan, J., & Sommers-Flanagan, R. (2007). You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. APA format also requires headings. Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that is current. I have also attached my discussion rubric so you can see how to make full points. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. I need this completed by 01/16/19 at 5pm.

Discussion – Week 8

Risk and Protective Factors

Violence, aggression, and bullying continue to be major problems among contemporary children and adolescents. As a counselor you must consider the following questions: a) What factors increase the risks for violence and aggression? and b) What protective factors reduce the risks for violence and aggression? The risks for violence include, but are not limited to, child abuse, disconnection to family, and cultural influences. Protective factors that help to mitigate aggression and violence include connectedness to family and community, success in school, and emotional stability. In addition to increasing your knowledge of the propensity of violence, consider a counselor’s role in helping children, adolescents, and families experience and enact violence less often.

For this Discussion, consider the myriad cultures in your community and throughout the world. Using the Learning Resources, Walden Library, and reputable sources on the Internet, select a culture and consider the risk factors that might influence violence and aggression within that culture. Consider the protective factors that may help to mitigate violence and aggression within that culture.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of the culture you selected. Then, explain one way this culture may influence risk factors for violence and aggression and why. Be specific. Finally, explain two protective factors you might introduce to family systems in that culture that may reduce or prevent violence and aggression and justify your selection. Be specific and justify your response with evidence-based research.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

LASA 2 PowerPoint Presentation Slides Required

Assignment Overview:

For this assignment, assume that you have been asked to present a PowerPoint presentation at your local community center about the topics of world poverty and education. You have decided to use Peter Singer’s article as the starting point of your presentation. As you craft your presentation you will need to:

  • Present the major claims of Singer.
  • Present your own original argument offering thoughtful solutions to real-world problems.
  • Back up your argument with outside research.

Here is the link to the article by Singer: “America’s Shame” from The Chronicle of Higher Education. 55(27), B6–B10. (EBSCO AN 37137370).

Assignment Details:

  • Develop a 12–15-slide presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Include two additional slides—one for the title and the other for a References page.
  • Bullet points are acceptable, but use complete sentences throughout the presentation.

Be sure to include the following:

  • Describe the portions of Singer’s article you seek to engage/critique.
  • Clearly state your own argument/thesis in response.
    • Remember, the nature of the stance is not important; you can agree or disagree with any point Singer makes in the article. The important thing is for you to construct a stance that clearly engages Singer’s position. Include properly cited examples from the article.
    • As you advance your own thesis, be sure to include your position on how to address the problems that Singer discusses in his article. Again, you may agree or disagree with Singer; however, be sure to offer your own solutions to the issue of world poverty, as discussed by Singer.
  • Support your argument with the use of original research.
    • Use at least three credible, academic resources to support your positions.
    • These should be sources other than Singer’s “America’s Shame” article.
  • Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
