Your response to each scenario must be 1  page

Your total assignment must be 10 pages total plus a title and reference page

For each of the scenarios below:

A.  Respond by exploring your countertransference issue(s).

B.  State what you decide to do.

C.  Justify your decision by citing the text, ethics code or other sources you use (remember to reference all work in APA format)

1. An attorney refers many clients to you for psychological evaluations. A close friend of yours has retained this attorney, who refers your friend to you for a very important psychological evaluation.  The attorney tells your friend that you are the “best” and the “best” is needed in this case.  You are strongly encouraged by both the attorney and your friend to do the evaluation.

3. The partner of a client who you have been treating for severe depression and suicidal ideation sends a letter to you. Should you open and read it?

4. You have worked for several years with an African-American man who has a history of rejection by women.  He has worked through many issues and finally has a suitable and loving relationship. He is very grateful to you and strongly encourages you to attend the wedding.

a. If you decide not to attend, how would you address this with your client?

b. If you decide to attend, how would you address this with your client and at the wedding?

5. A gay client has a terminal disease and he has decided to stop treatment and all “heroic” measures. While not mentioning suicide, he has disclosed looking into “options” to alleviate his suffering.

6. You treated a Native American male for alcohol use and abuse several years ago. When you and some friends go to a casino for a weekend, you encounter this person who tells you and your friends that he now has a good job at the casino thanks to the work he has done with you.  When you go to check out, you are told that your room and dining expenses have been “comp’d.”

7. A Latino female client reports sexual abuse by another therapist.  When you encourage her to report this, she indicates that she wants you to do this, as she does not want to get the other therapist in trouble.

8. A fragile female client who believes that she has made great progress would like to enter a training program to become a mental health professional. The client wants you to write a letter supporting her entrance into a training program. You are not sure she is sufficiently mentally healthy to work as a professional.

9. You have a private practice and teach graduate students who are studying to become mental health professionals. You are approached by a student in the last class in the program with a request to begin individual therapy with you.

10. You have worked with a client who is a fellow professional. You both agree that you have much in common.  The client has made excellent progress, and has terminated therapy. What should you do when, shortly after treatment has terminated, the client calls and suggests that you purchase season tickets for a series of theatrical performances?

Examine the major theoretical approaches studied in the class so far (psychodynamic, behavioral, learning, trait and type, and humanistic).

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read the required Churchill and Mruk (2014), Hayes (2012), and Waterman (2013) articles, and review the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct  (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and Chapters 14 through 17 in your textbook.

For this discussion, you will choose a person who has an important presence in popular media today. This person might be a political, business, human rights, education, or entertainment figure. Examine the major theoretical approaches studied in the class so far (psychodynamic, behavioral, learning, trait and type, and humanistic). Briefly describe your chosen figure’s personality from the point of view of each of these five approaches. Evaluate and describe any cultural considerations which may affect the personality assessment within each of the given approaches. Analyze the ethical implications of basing your personality assessment on the information available through the popular media. Select the theoretical approach you think best describes the person and elaborate on his or her personality using this approach.

Guided Response:  Review several of your colleagues’ posts and respond to at least two of your peers by 11:59 p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required replies earlier in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion.

  • Considering your colleague’s chosen person, was the theoretical approach he or she selected appropriate?
  • Suggest another perspective that might be used to assess this person, and provide a rationale as to why the perspective may be more effective.
  • Consider the ethical implications indicated by your colleague. Review the APA’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct  (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. and describe the issues present in assessing personality using only the information available in popular media.

Overall, how would you describe the work tasks followers complete? Are the tasks simple or complex? Structured or unstructured?

Early leadership theories identified traits, skills, and behaviors associated with effective leadership, but they did not account for specific contexts in which each might be most effective. In the 1960s and 1970s, contingency, situational, and path-goal theories addressed this gap in leadership theory, suggesting that certain contextual factors, such as a leader’s authority, follower competence, and task demands dictate which leadership approach is most effective.

In this Discussion, you will apply contingency, situational, and path-goal theories to the selection of leadership styles, traits, skills, and behaviors given a specific set of contextual factors described by your colleagues.

Post a response to the following:

Respond to the statement, “There is no one effective leadership style,” using one of the following theories: contingency theory, situational theory, and path-goal theory. Then describe a leadership position and related contextual factors at the organization in which you currently work or an organization in which you have previously worked. In your description, be sure to address the following questions:

  • Does the leader have a formal position of power, and can he or she deliver rewards and punishments?
  • Overall, how would you characterize the relationships between leaders and followers? Are the relationships good or poor? Provide specific examples to illustrate your response.
  • Overall, how would you describe the work tasks followers complete? Are the tasks simple or complex? Structured or unstructured?
  • Overall, how would you characterize followers in terms of their competence, confidence, locus of control, and need for affiliation?

Briefly describe the relevant scene (you may assume that your reader has seen the film)• Provide detailed examples from dialogue or a situationto show how the concept is present•

Film Analysis

In addition to entertaining us, movies offer detailed portrayals of human social behavior. Your task in this assignment is to analyze — from a social-psychological perspective — the behaviors and events depicted in one of the films listed below. You are not being asked to critique the film in terms of its value as a work of art or as entertainment. Rather, you should think carefully about the human actions and events portrayed in the film. Then, to make sense of this material, apply what you’ve learned this semester regarding the factors that predict and explain human social behavior. This assignment is comprehensive: Use any/all concepts encountered in this course that relate to the issues, interactions, and behaviors portrayed.

Written responses should be at least 4 full pages. Submit via Blackboard by the deadline.

Your paper should be in APA style, and you will see from the grading rubrics that I will deduct points for those deviating from APA style. For some help in determining APA style, see:

• Degelman & Harris’ APA Style Essentials• An excellent APA crib sheet from my alma mater, Georgia Southern University.• A nice FAQ from Purdue for how to cite odd materials (e.g. lecture notes).• The official APA Style website from the APA. It mostly wants to sell you products.• Psych Web’s excellent list of internet APA style resources

Always, always, without fail, keep a copy of your paper.

Choose a movie to watch (the following are recommended, but not required). Please choose a movie that is new to you.

You may not choose Zootopia or Edward Scissorhands.

• Experimenter (2015)• The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015)• Hidden Figures (2016)• Sing Street (2016)• TiMER (2009)• North Country (2005)• That Thing You Do (1996)• Get Out (2017)• According to Greta (2009)• Edward Scissorhands (1990)• Swimfan (2002)• The Big Sick (2017)

Find and discuss three or more social psychology concepts present in the movie. For each concept that you identify:

• Briefly describe the relevant scene (you may assume that your reader has seen the film)• Provide detailed examples from dialogue or a situationto show how the concept is present• Describe in detail the social-psychological principle you believe is relevant. Your job here is to demonstrate that you understand the principle or theory, and that you can describe it in your own words. An occasional quote from your text or another source is fine, but for the most part, you should be conveying your knowledge without the aid of others’ words. You don’t need to do library research for this – using your text or your lecture notes as resources is fine – but remember the rules about avoiding plagiarism! It’s best if you are specific about the principles you discuss. For example, don’t just indicate that your scene illustrates helping, or conformity, or persuasion, or aggression. Instead, indicate what specific theory, or principle or aspect of helping/conformity/persuasion/aggression, etc. that your scene illustrates.• Elaborate on how the selected scene illustrates the principle you have identified. It’s also ok to write about how a scene might fails to follow predictions derived from the social-psychological principle or theory. Where possible, make reference to how your scene maps onto specific research findings (for example, describe how the scene is similar to or different from relevant experiments you’ve read or heard about). It’s very important that you do more than simply say something like “this scene illustrates conformity.” You must be specific on precisely how and in what form the scene illustrates conformity, or how it fails to support what you learned about conformity in the class.• Be sure to include a short Introduction to orient the reader, as well as a short Discussion to tie things together.
