Do you think that  you should also address other factors like her age, first time  pregnancy, etc.?

For this Check-Up, your patient is a 43-year-old  female. She is 4 months pregnant for the first time, and she never  expected to get pregnant as she believed herself to be infertile. She  has enjoyed 2 glasses of wine each night her entire first trimester  because she read a few articles by some renowned international  obstetricians who suggested that having a glass of red wine during  pregnancy is healthy to maintain normal blood pressure, and to reduce  anxiety levels.

Your patient, Claudia, wants to know if it’s important for her to stop  drinking her red wine each night, or if the warnings given by her family  are just “super strict and overly protective.” Claudia needs facts to  change her mind about this topic. As her Nurse/health care investigator,  can you explain to her what the risks are for her to continue drinking 2  glasses of wine every night while she is pregnant? Do you think that  you should also address other factors like her age, first time  pregnancy, etc.? Use your Nurse/health care-Investigator skills and  present the facts to her.

Discuss the variables found in the research that have been found to correlate with an increased risk for suicidal ideation, attempts and completion. What types of psychopathology have been associated with an increased risk for suicide? Why might that be the case?

Answers must be paraphrased (restated in your own words with no quoting permitted), properly APA format source credited – including within-answer citations and a list of references included at the end of each answer – and at least 600 words each, not counting source citations and references. Answers should be succinct, thorough, articulated in well-organized paragraphs (lists, sentence fragments and bulleted items are not permitted), and more substantive than just definitions of terms, procedures, or issues.

To complete this exam, save a copy of the attached file on your hard drive, construct your answers below each question on a separate page per question, attach a cover page to the front and a reference list to the end (references must also be placed at the end of each question for which they were used) and upload it under the Midterm Exam assignment tab.

Questions:

1. Psychological abnormality may include concerns with concepts such as deviance, distress, dysfunction, and danger. First, briefly explain what each term means from your perspective in the context of psychopathology. Then, for each term, provide a specific example of when it (e.g., distress) would be considered “normal” and, separately, an example of when it would be considered “abnormal.” Finally, explain why it is important to understand this distinction.

2. Your nephew is taking Intro to Psych as a high school senior and is confused about which of the theoretical models is “best” at explaining abnormality. Describe for him, in no more than 100 words per model and using terms he (as a layperson) can understand, at least three models of abnormality. Then, briefly answer his question – which model do you think is best and why? Be sure to support your answer with reference material.

3. Answer both parts of this question. Imagine you are an intake clinician at a community mental health clinic:
a. If you had 30 minutes to conduct a preliminary clinical interview, what information would you be sure to try to get, and why? Be sure to support your answer using the reading materials in the course.
b. You’ve been tasked to give a lecture to new clients explaining the format and major characteristics of DSM-5. What are the main points you want to be sure to cover

4. For EACH of the following disorders, characterize three specific factors you believe are most important for a basic understanding of them. Be sure to justify your choices using only about 100-150 words for each:
1. GeneralizedAnxietyDisorder
2. PanicDisorder
3. ObsessiveCompulsiveDisorder 4. Post-TraumaticStressDisorder 5. SomaticSymptomDisorder
6. MajorDepressiveDisorder
7. BipolarDisorde

5. Discuss the variables found in the research that have been found to correlate with an increased risk for suicidal ideation, attempts and completion. What types of psychopathology have been associated with an increased risk for suicide? Why might that be the case?

How does your explanation of classical and operant conditioning differ from your peers’ explanations?

 Traditional Learning Theories

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please read McSweeney  & Murphy (2014) Part 1: Basic Classical Conditioning (Chapters 1  through 3) and Part 3: Basic Operational Conditioning (Chapters 8  through 10), and view the required video Classical and Operant Conditioning (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Include the following components in your initial post:

  • Compare and contrast the general theories proposed by Pavlov and Skinner.
  • Examine and describe the researcher’s contribution(s) to psychology theory and practice.
  • Examine the major theoretical approaches proposed by the authors  including any related research methods and/or assessment instruments  associated with him or her.
  • Evaluate any issues and cultural considerations associated with your assigned theorist.
  • Analyze and describe how the American Psychological Association  (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct might  affect the implementation of your theorist’s personality assessments.
  • Assess the types of personality measurements and research designs  associated with your assigned theorist and describe how they have  evolved.

In addition to the required resources for the learning theories,  research a minimum of one peer-reviewed article from the Ashford  University Library regarding classical or operant conditioning within  the field of psychology. Your initial post should be a minimum of 500  words.

Guided Response: Review several of your colleagues’  posts and respond substantively to at least three of your peers by 11:59  p.m. on Day 7 of the week. You are encouraged to post your required  replies early each week to stimulate more meaningful and interactive  discourse in your discussions. Continue to monitor the discussion forum  until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and  respond to anyone who replies to your initial post. Peer responses may  vary in length but should be detailed and thought provoking. Your grade  will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your  responses.

Consider the following in your responses:

  • Were the theories complementary, or did they exist in conflict?
  • Provide specific examples of divergence between the theories as described.
  • Were there associated issues and/or cultural considerations your  classmate did not mention that should have been included in his or her  initial post?
  • What ethical consideration(s) should have been included?
  • How does your explanation of classical and operant conditioning differ from your peers’ explanations?

Pose questions that could encourage facilitation of the discussion.  Look for peers whose posts have not yet been responded to and reply to  these so that everyone has a chance to reflect and develop their  knowledge more fully.

Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

                                      Identifying 10 Strategic Points

While reviewing literature for your chosen dissertation topic, 10 Strategic Points will emerge. These 10 points need to be clear, simple, correct, and aligned to ensure that the research you will undertake is doable, valuable, and credible. This assignment will give you some experience in identifying 10 Strategic Points.
