Review the handout, Jane: Diagnostic Conceptualization Example, provided in Week 3 to review the appropriate information to include in each section of the Diagnostic Conceptualization Template.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resources on your own before you bid. The main references come from the American Psychiatric Association. (2013) and/or Kress, V. E., & Paylo, M. J. (2019). You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. Grammar, Writing, and APA Format: I expect you to write professionally, which means APA format, complete sentences, proper paragraphs, and well-organized and well-documented presentation of ideas. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that are current. Sources such as Wikipedia, Ask.com, PsychCentral, and similar sites are never acceptable. Please remember that resources used must be from peer-reviewed resources such as academic journals. The assigned textbook and the DSM-5 are required for all assignments (i.e., cite and reference the textbook and DSM-5 in every assignment). As a general rule, web sites are not peer-reviewed except those which are online journal articles. Therefore, it is advisable for you to avoid using these websites as resources. Walden Library offers many peer-reviewed articles that pertain to the topics covered. While not required to use these articles, you should select a couple that you find interesting and which supports your critical thinking and analysis.

Assignment – Week 8

Assessing and Diagnosing Devon

The process of diagnosis is complex. Clients may come to their first counseling session needing to vent about multiple areas in their lives, and they may not necessarily know what they need to share with a counselor to get a diagnosis. Counselors must listen to the client to understand a full picture of what may be going on. If a client says that they are having a hard time dealing with family, difficulty in relationships, not eating regularly, or not sleeping, counselors must know how to listen and ask questions that can pull more information needed for an accurate diagnosis.

This week, you put your skills to practice by conceptualizing a client’s presenting concerns and rendering a diagnosis. You will review the case of Devon, found in this week’s Learning Resources. Based on the case information, along with the DSM-5 resources, you will evaluate Devon based on possible symptoms he presents to diagnose potential disorders.

To prepare for the Assignment:

  • Review this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Review the Case of Devon in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Download the Diagnostic Conceptualization Template from the media.
  • Review the handout, Jane: Diagnostic Conceptualization Example, provided in Week 3 to review the appropriate information to include in each section of the Diagnostic Conceptualization Template.
  • Review the expectations in the Rubric.

Discuss  the ways in which the case is relevant to the legal standard that  forensic professionals must consider. In other words, discuss the  implications of the case for the practice of forensic assessment.

Assignment 2: Landmark Civil Case

Forensic assessment has been largely shaped by statutes, legal standards, and the outcomes of historical landmark cases.  When working in an environment where there is no room for error, it is  imperative to understand the relevant court decisions that inform the  rationale behind various assessment procedures. Unless one knows the  relevant statutory or case law, as well as the standards that they set,  it is not possible to select an appropriate method of assessment.

Using  resources from the professional literature, investigate the research  literature on one landmark case pertaining to an important psycholegal  issue that forensic mental health professionals address in their  assessments. The psycholegal issue may be chosen from the area of criminal forensic psychology  (e.g., competency to waive Miranda rights, competency to stand trial,  or mental state at the time of the offense), or it may be chosen from  the civil area, such as cases pertaining to the right to  treatment, the right to refuse treatment, civil commitment, child  custody, fitness to parent, or disability. Remember that you must select  a case that has direct implications for the work of a forensic mental  health professional. Landmark cases are typically historical ones.  Recent legal cases that are prominent in the news are not necessarily  landmark cases.

The  literature you consult can include the Argosy University online library  resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and  websites ending in .edu or .gov that are created by professional  organizations, agencies, or institutions.

More specifically, you are encouraged to refer to your program-required textbook Psychological Evaluations for the Courts: A Handbook for Mental Health Professionals and Lawyers for landmark cases.

You may also refer to the category Landmark Cases in the Webliography.

In a minimum of 300 words, respond to the following:

  • Identify a landmark civil case and explain why you chose it for review.
  • Provide a short review of the facts of the case.
  • Identify the psycholegal issue that was in dispute.
  • Discuss the final decision on the issue by the highest court that heard the case.
  • Discuss  the ways in which the case is relevant to the legal standard that  forensic professionals must consider. In other words, discuss the  implications of the case for the practice of forensic assessment.
  • Provide  a properly formatted legal reference for the case. If necessary,  consult “Appendix 7.1, References to Legal Materials,” starting on p.  216 of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition

Summarize for the client what a Pearson correlation is and why it was chosen for this analysis. Discuss the validity and reliability of a Pearson correlation.

Assignment 2: RA 2: Employee Satisfaction and Sick Days Taken: Pearson Correlation Report

For this assignment, you will read a brief scenario, analyze two data sets, and conduct a Pearson correlation in Microsoft Excel. You will justify the results in a 10- to 12-page report following the directions below.

Background Scenario:

Company ABC has hired you to conduct an employee satisfaction survey. You have conducted the survey and received the satisfaction scores of twenty participants. Company ABC is asking that you work with human resources (HR) by obtaining a report on the number of sick days for the twenty employees who completed your employee satisfaction survey. You are to take both sets of data and conduct a Pearson correlation to determine whether there is a relationship between employee satisfaction and the number of sick days taken. Assume the survey and the sick days are being measured over a one-year time frame.

Click here to view the data.

Directions:

Using the data sets provided, conduct a Pearson correlation (in Microsoft Excel). In a 10- to 12-page report to company ABC, which includes the Microsoft Excel data results sheet, address the following:

  • Include an executive summary explaining your findings.
  • Summarize for the client what a Pearson correlation is and why it was chosen for this analysis. Discuss the validity and reliability of a Pearson correlation.
  • Explain the type of correlation you discovered, if any. State the specific correlation coefficient and be specific as to whether it was positive or negative. Also, indicate whether the results were significantly positive or negative.
  • Describe the results from your statistical analysis, indicating the relationship between employee satisfaction and sick days taken in a year.
  • Determine what other variables may have impacted this relationship and the scores of the employee satisfaction survey.
  • Justify what research, if any, supports your findings on satisfaction and sick days.
  • Include a copy of your Pearson correlation computations in Microsoft Excel.

Your final product will be in a Microsoft Word document of approximately 10 to 12 pages. Utilize four to five scholarly sources in your research. Your document should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Submission Details:

Describe the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination on the effort to expand civil rights for African Americans. How might the struggle for civil rights have evolved differently if Dr. King had not been killed?

With the majority of practicing psychologists indicating that they practice integrative therapy, it might be easy to assume that integrative therapy is better than practicing a single therapy. What do you think? What are the advantages and potential drawbacks of integrating divergent therapeutic interventions into your practice rather than adhering to one particular school of thought and practice?

To prepare for this Discussion:

• Review Dr. Norcross’ course media presentation, “Integrative Therapy.” Focus on his discussion related to the benefits and challenges of integrative therapy.

• Review the journal article, “Some Limits to the Integration of Psychoanalytic and Behavior Therapy.” Pay particular attention to the potential difficulties in merging differing therapeutic perspectives.

• Consider the advantages and potential challenges of using integrative therapies.

With these thoughts in mind:

Write an analysis of the advantages and potential drawbacks of integrative therapies. Provide specific examples. Briefly describe how you would handle the potential drawbacks you mention.
