Some researchers believe you might manifest different behaviors in different situations. Give at least one example of this in your own life.

Personality Portfolio (Adapted from Dr. Yasmine Kalkstein, North Hennepin Community College)

Your personality portfolio will consist of three parts:

Part I

Complete the following tests;

Test 1: http://similarminds.com/cattell-16-factor.html

Test 2: http://www.personalitytest.net/ipip/ipipneo300.html

Test 3: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

Print a .pdf file or take a screenshot of your results. Please be sure to include these documents as part of your assignment submission.

You should also include a one-page reflection for each personality test. A reflection may include whether you think the test results were an accurate depiction of you, what you thought of the test questions, or thoughts on the trait being measured.

Part II

Conduct an interview with an older individual and write a four page paper detailing your experience. Ask them to tell you their life story. Begin the paper by describing who you interviewed, how you met them or know them. Based on your interview, assess their personality in terms of Erikson’s developmental theory. Be sure to explain Erikson’s theory as you describe it. How did they resolve the various stages? Where do you believe they fit now? You should also comment on other aspects of their personality, but be sure to spend at least half the paper on Erikson’s theory.

Part III

Describe and reflect on your own personality in a 3-5 page paper. When doing so, include the following points:

  • Relate your personality to at least 3 theories covered in this course. Describe each theory in detail.
  • What environmental factors do you think shaped your personality?
  • How has your personality changed over time? Relate your personality to one of the developmental frameworks.
  • Some researchers believe you might manifest different behaviors in different situations. Give at least one example of this in your own life.

Explain behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and humanism as applied to learning. Suggested template. Summarizes at least two sub-theories/ideologies within each framework.

Prior to beginning work on this activity read all of the required  reading, review the content from weeks one through three, visit the  website http://selfdeterminationtheory.org (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.,  and review the Instructor Guidance. This week you will be discussing  the multiple perspectives about how we learn, based on your developing  knowledge about learning theory, and how it affects your own ability to  perform at desired levels.

Required elements:

  • Explain behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, and humanism as applied to learning. Suggested template.
  • Summarizes at least two sub-theories/ideologies within each framework.
    • Examples include:
    • From behaviorism
      • associative learning, classical conditioning, operant Conditioning, conditioning, extinction, and ratio/interval schedules
    • From cognitivism
      • schema theory, memory development, elaboration theory (i.e. Bloom’s  taxonomy), cognitive load theory, and social learning/cognitive theory.
    • From constructivism (conceptions of knowledge are derived from the  process of constructing individual interpretations of one’s experiences)
      • cognitive constructivism, dialectical (social) constructivism, zone of proximal development, and discovery learning
    • From humanism
      • motivational theories of learning (i.e. self-determination theory,  Maslow’s hierarchy of needs), experiential learning, and Steiner  pedagogy or Waldorf education.
    • List and briefly explain a minimum of two theoretically supported  strategies, that we have learned about during the past weeks, that you  think would most help you to increase your own learning success.
    • List and briefly explain a minimum of two theoretically supported  strategies, that we have learned about during the past weeks, that you  think would most help someone in your personal or professional circle.
      • Apply basic methods of psychological research skills to this content  by synthesizing supporting evidence from at least three scholarly  sources from the Ashford University Library that defend the strategies  you have chosen.

The Applying Learning Theory to Life paper

Respond to the posts of at least two different colleagues. One must be a response to a colleague’s post about the question you did not select. Respond in one of the following ways:

Discussion A – Week 4COLLAPSE

Dealing With Data

Discussion A (Required for all students)

Review the assigned pages in Gladwell’s Outliers as well as the articles on statistics. Consider how statistical data were used in the examples in the Learning Resources.

Identify two examples in the Learning Resources and explain how statistics were used in each example. State whether statistics were used effectively in each example, and explain why. Finally, explain a strategy you could use to ensure the data you collect and interpret is done in a reliable manner.

By Day 3

Post a minimum of 100 words to Discussion Question A.

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to at least one of this week’s Learning Resources. Additionally, you may optto include an academic resource you have identified or something you have read, heard, seen, or experienced.

By Day 5

Respond to the posts of at least two different colleagues. One must be a response to a colleague’s post about the question you did not select. Respond in one of the following ways:

  • Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.
  • Expand on your colleague’s posting.

Qualitative and quantitative data is often used together to get a holistic picture of the study subject. Since both require different vantage points the way they are studied needs different approaches, different processes and different data gathering protocols. The question is asked, “what types of information do we need to understand the subject matter and solve the problem?’

Discussion B (Select B or C)

Chapter one in Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers provides a simple statistical analysis of birthdates of hockey players. Adding a similar assessment of soccer players, he then draws conclusions about the system that shaped these sportsmen. Post an evaluation of Gladwell’s use of quantitative data by explaining whether he collected and interpreted his data in a reliable manner. Provide support for your position.

By Day 3

Post a minimum of 100 words to your choice of Discussion Question B.

Be sure to support your ideas by connecting them to at least one of this unit’s Learning Resources.

Additionally, you may optto include an academic resource you have identified or something you have read, heard, seen, or experienced.

By Day 5

Research is about gathering information and categorizing it. Anytime you make categories, you then force people to “fit” within those artificial divisions in order to meet the needs of the organization. Exceptions to the categories should be built in to be most effective. Time constraints, lack of funding and a scarcity of organizational resources means that individuals are forced to adapt to the categories. In the case of the hockey players you add the bias of size and coordination that is then multiplied by the individual attention of the coaches and the increased play of the traveling teams and the performance gap widens. the irony is that this is all seen as normal and a sign of the individual differences in the players not a systematic bias.

Describe the relationship between the cultural beliefs and biases identified in the map and the social issue, and provide specific examples to support your description.

Specifically the following critical elements must be addressed: III. Creating Connections: Now that you have broken the social issue into smaller pieces in the concept map, you will explain the connections you made and how these connections will help you better understand the issue, using your knowledge from the course. You will use your knowledge from the course to describe the connections between the sociological concepts and the social issue and demonstrate the value of using a sociological view when examining social issues.

A. Cultural 1. Describe the relationship between the cultural beliefs and biases identified in the map and the social issue, and provide specific examples to support your description. For example, you might describe how the relationship is positive, negative, or strained. 2. Explain how the cultural beliefs and biases identified in the map help you better understand the social issue.

B. Social Roles 1. Describe the relationship between the social roles identified in the map and the social issue, and provide specific examples to support your description. For example, you might describe how the relationship is positive, negative, or strained. In your response, you might consider what expectations are in place because of the social roles. 2. Explain how the social roles identified in the map help you better understand the social issue.

C. Social Inequalities 1. Describe the relationship between the social inequalities identified in the map and the social issue. How are the social inequalities present in the issue? 2. Explain how the social inequalities identified in the map help you better understand the social issue.

D. Impact of Social Change 1. Describe how the social issue is challenging the existing state or conditions, providing specific examples. 2. How might the social issue facilitate change for the existing state or conditions? Provide specific examples.
