For your Signature Assignment, you will create a PowerPoint presentation suitable to use for a lecture in an introductory statistics class. You should include the following in your presentation:

  • A description of why a knowledge of statistics is important in careers in psychology as well as in everyday life.
  • A description of the difference between descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • A description of the inferential tests discussed during this class. You should discuss the types of data that are appropriate for each test (i.e., nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio). You should create a specific research example that would yield data appropriate for each of the tests that you mention. You should describe each of the variables involved in your research question and how that variable will be measured.
  • A discussion of any ethical concerns that need to be considered for each of the research examples.
  • At least one graph demonstrating how the results of the statistical test should be presented.

For this assignment Supreme Court Landmark Case Miranda v. Arizona.

Read through the case opinion, taking notes as you go. You need the following information:

         A. Introduction:

                1. Identify the name of the case and the year the Supreme Court issued the opinion; 

                2. Identify the parties involved in the case.

                3. Briefly describe the focus and controversy of the case.

B. Facts – identify the facts relevant to the Court’s ruling in the case (leave out extraneous detail); 

C. How did the case move through the courts before reaching the U.S. Supreme Court? 

                1. What court had original jurisdiction in the case?

                2. How had previous courts ruled in the case?

D. How did the U.S. Supreme Court rule in the case?

                1. What was the reasoning of the majority opinion?

                2. What was the reasoning of any concurring or dissenting opinions? 

E. Conclusion: How does the Court’s ruling in the case affect Americans today?

                1. Has the Court’s ruling in the case affected other rulings in other cases?

                2. Has the Court’s ruling affected the interpretation and enforcement of any particular laws and how those laws are enforced?

                3. If applicable: Has the Court’s ruling in this case affected you, or someone you know, personally?

Next, write your essay. If you organized your information based on the suggested outline above, then you just need to flesh out what you learned and put it into a footnoted two- to three-page essay. Your first paragraph is the introduction (the information under letter A of your outline), the second paragraph is the information under letter B, and so on.

  • Explanation and rationale for the Personality Disorder Diagnosis using the latest version of the DSM as a reference.
  • Information on the course of treatment for the disorder.
  • Identification of which cluster (A, B, or C) this personality disorder belongs to and an explanation of your rationale.
  • Information on the prognosis and prevalence of the disorder.
  • A minimum of five scholarly references including your textbook and the latest version of the DSM. Be sure to only use current and scholarly references for this assignment.
  • Detailed speaker notes that represent what you would say if giving the presentation in person.
