Assignment 2: Final Project Assignment Submission

For this assignment, you will finalize your Final Project Assignment for final submission.

To Prepare:
  • Review the Final Project Rubric, located in the Course Information area, and consider the requirements needed for the Final Project Assignment.
  • Select two psychological theories and consider how they relate to the topic you chose in Week 1 and Week 7.
Final Project

Write a 5- to 6-page paper (apart from the title page and references) that references at least four scholarly articles and includes at least two unique articles for each theory you selected. Your final project should include the following:

  • A description of both theories you selected and why you think they are appropriate for the topic you chose from the list or that was pre-approved by your Instructor by the end of Week 5
  • A comparison of the theories related to the topic you chose
  • An argument as to which theory provides a better understanding of the topic
  • An explanation of how psychological research grounded in these two theories helped you better understand the characteristics of the topic
  • An examination of cultural aspects that might contribute to that understanding

See Final Project Overview in Week 10 Learning Resources for layout.

Note: Support your statements with the scholarly sources you identified using both in-text citations and references. It is strongly recommended that you include proper APA format and citations.

By Day 7

Submit your Final Project Assignment.

Submission and Grading Information

Compare (similarities and differences) social conflict theory, social disorganization theory, and rational choice theory, using specific examples in your comparison.

Please see Attachment!

As a helping professional, understanding social disorganization theory, social conflict theory, and rational choice theory as three contemporary perspectives on the causes of criminal behavior are essential. Social disorganization theory—such as purported by the Chicago School, which you read about in Week 2—views crime as being a product of neighborhoods and communities that have broken down and are characterized by weak cultural and structural norms, absence of law and order, and high levels of poverty. Social conflict theory assigns the cause of crime to conflict between competing social groups, such as the affluent and the working poor. Rational choice theory emphasizes the decision-making process of criminals and aims to prevent crime by making criminal behavior less attractive and valuable.

Each sociological theory outlined here has strengths and limitations. Applying these theories is likely to yield diverse explanations for the causes of criminal behavior.

For this Assignment, review the article, “The Role of Attenuated Culture in Social Disorganization Theory” and consider the principles of disorganization theory, paying particular attention to various aspects of the theory as explanations for criminal behavior. Then, search the Internet and select peer-reviewed articles that address social conflict theory, social disorganization theory, and rational choice theory.

Assignment (2 pages):

  • Briefly describe social conflict theory, social disorganization theory, and rational choice theory.
  • Compare (similarities and differences) social conflict theory, social disorganization theory, and rational choice theory, using specific examples in your comparison.
  • Based on your comparison, describe at least one insight or conclusion you might draw.
  • Use the resources from your research to support your findings.

Support your Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are asked to provide a reference list only for those resources not included in the resources for this course.

explain one intervention you might use to address the child/adolescent or parent/guardian in this case study.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resource on your own before you bid. One of the references must come from Flamez, B. & Sheperis, C. J. (2015) and/or Sommers-Flanagan, J., & Sommers-Flanagan, R. (2007). You need to have scholarly support for any claim of fact or recommendation regarding treatment. APA format also requires headings. Use the prompt each week to guide your heading titles and organize the content of your initial post under the appropriate headings. Remember to use scholarly research from peer-reviewed articles that is current. I have also attached my discussion rubric so you can see how to make full points. Please follow the instructions to get full credit for the discussion. I need this completed by 01/09/19 at 5pm.

Discussion – Week 7

Assessing Mood Disorders

Mood problems often constitute a primary reason why parents seek professional help for their children or adolescents. Most often, mood problems include irritability, sadness, or anger. A certain amount of moodiness and impulsivity is normal during childhood and adolescence; therefore, it makes it exceptionally difficult to diagnose children and adolescents with conditions such as clinical depression or bipolar disorders. One of the most challenging elements in counseling is objectively assessing whether a child or adolescent has a mood disorder. Cultural and family factors are one reason this is challenging. At times, these factors are directly the cause of the mood disorder or contribute to the stress or distress of children and adolescents. Therefore it is important to use a systematic, objective, and dispassionate procedure for gathering data about children and adolescents when conducting assessments.

For this Discussion and subsequent Discussions, consider these questions: a) Where does the child’s or adolescents problem originate from, and b) Does the problem stem from the child or adolescent, or is it the family or other factors? By asking these questions, you can more accurately assess a child’s or adolescent’s problems and create evidence-based interventions to address the right problem effectively. Select a case study in this week’s Learning Resources, and consider the child’s or adolescent’s presenting problem and where the presenting problem may originate.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief description of the presenting symptoms of the child or adolescent in the case study you selected. Then, explain one possible reason the child’s or adolescent’s problem exists and why. Finally, explain one intervention you might use to address the child/adolescent or parent/guardian in this case study. Be specific and support your response using the Learning Resources and current literature.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.
