What do you think about not being able to choose your own physician? (Note: In the United States, many insurance companies limit which physicians you choose.)

Case Study # 3 – Universal Health Care:

The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not offer some form of universal health care, and each year the number of uninsured Americans is increasing. Many people look to Canada’s health care system as a possible means of fixing our current woes. However, some of the fears associated with universal health care are:

  • Drug/medical technology companies fear that they will not make a profit.
  • There will be a large tax increase.
  • Quality of care will decrease.

The following cases and their corresponding questions address some of the problems and fears.

Case 1:
A mother brings her son into the emergency room during an asthma attack. Though both of his parents work, they cannot afford medical insurance for themselves or him. They also earn too much money to qualify for state or federal aid. He is treated for his asthma attack at the hospital and he and his mother leave. Two weeks later, they return to the hospital in a virtually identical scenario.

Questions for Case 1:

  • Do you think that this boy is receiving adequate care?…Shouldn’t he be able to see a primary care physician before his condition gets so acute that he must visit the ER?
  • Should everyone be entitled to a basic “minimum of health care”… or to the exact same health care?
  • Do you think that health care is a right? If so, are we forced to honor this right?
  • (If students answer “yes” to the above question) Is this right relative or universal? Does this right exist because of the wealth of the United States, or is it applicable everywhere? Is health care a luxury?
  • Does having money entitle a person to better health care? (they may have worked harder for their greater wealth)

Case 2:
An upper middle class, middle aged, Canadian man is playing racket ball when he suddenly feels a pop in his knee. In pain, he makes an appointment with his general practitioner and is seen the next day. He is given pain medication, and is referred to an orthopedic surgeon (he has no choice of who he will see). After a week wait, he is seen by the orthopedic surgeon and is told he will need surgery. Two weeks later surgery is performed on the man’s knee. The physician, who is not very good, does a poor job on the knee, and the man walks with a slight limp for the rest of his life. The surgery costs the man no money directly, however, he pays for it with higher taxes.

Questions For Case 2:

  • What do you think of this man’s experience in comparison to case 1? Which situation seems worse, and why?
  • Does it seem like it took too long for him to receive care? (The physicians will perform surgery on the more urgent patients first and then on the less serious.)
  • What do you think about not being able to choose your own physician? (Note: In the United States, many insurance companies limit which physicians you choose.)
  • One suggested solution for our current health care woes is that care for the elderly be decreased/eliminated. For example, people over the age of 80 will no longer be placed on life support, which costs approximately $10,000 per day to operate. What do you think of this?
  • What do you think could be a good middle ground solution to this problem?

Identify intervew skills that would be necessary to utilize to complete the assessment process, and provide a description of how each skill could be used in the assessment process.

Comparison of Assessment Tool Constructs

For this assignment, complete the following:

  • Select one assessment tool from those listed in the Resources area.
  • Explore the literature to identify another assessment tool that is purported to measure the same constructs.
  • Identify intervew skills that would be necessary to utilize to complete the assessment process, and provide a description of how each skill could be used in the assessment process.
  • Compare the assessment tools, the one chosen from the Resources list and the one found via the literature, on the basis of key test measurement constructs of reliability and validity.
  • Describe different methods for acquiring the key measurement constructs of reliability and validity.
  • Describe how results on each assessment are interpreted. For example, describe how scores are interpreted in comparison to group means and norms (for a standardized or norm-referenced test) or to cutoff scores (for criterion-referenced test), and how scores on this assessment correlate with other tests and measures.
  • Incorporate a minimum of six scholarly research studies analyzing the effectiveness of each selected assessment tool in professional settings.
  • Based on the review of literature, evaluate which assessment tool has clearer application of measurement concepts.

Assignment Requirements

  • Written communication: Written communication is free of errors so the overall message is clear.
  • APA formatting: Resources and citations are formatted according to current edition of the APA manual.
  • Number of resources: Minimum of six scholarly resources. Distinguished submissions will likely exceed the minimum.
  • Length of paper: 6–8 double-spaced, typed pages, excluding title and reference pages.
  • Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point.

Explain why this is an issue. Finally, explain two interventions you might employ to enhance the young child’s development, including why you think they are appropriate.

Please no plagiarism and make sure you are able to access all resource on your own before you bid. One of the references must come from Broderick and Blewitt (2015). I need this completed by 12/14/17 at 6pm. My assigned family is the  [Jeong Family].

I hope everyone is “settling in” to the course and finding the family assignments interesting.  This week, you are addressing issues in young childhood.  As you develop your response to the discussion prompt, please be sure to address all objectives, and to do so from a developmental perspective.  For example, the prompt for this discussion asks you to identify at least one significant development-related issue for your young client. In addition to identifying the behaviors or conditions that exist, you should also support the significance of this with citations to resource(s).  Also, you are asked to explain two interventions you might employ to enhance the young child’s development, and why these would be appropriate.  These interventions should be specific and developmentally-focused.  Answers such as “client(s) should attend counseling” or “CBT-focused counseling would help the parents better deal with (issue)” is not sufficient. Remember that these are already your counseling clients.  Think about what specific types of interventions might support healthy development and why – and remember to support your statements with resources!  🙂

Also, I strongly recommend that you consider using outlines to assist in your development of main discussion posts (and applications!).  Outlines help you ensure that you meet each objective thoroughly, as well as help you identify ways to improve coherence and support in your assignment before submitting.  There are some very good resources in the Walden writing center on this topic.  I also highly recommend these two websites:

Discussion 2: Working with Young Children

I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer,
to treat everything as if it were a nail.
—Abraham Maslow, The Psychology of Science

One of the more important skills you will develop as a counselor is the ability to identify a client’s unique biological, cultural, and environmental influences and adapt your interventions appropriately. This is especially true when working with young children, as their identities and real-world understandings have yet to fully develop. If they do not yet know “who they are,” how can you, as a counselor, begin to tell them?

For this Discussion, review the media, “Young Childhood.” Focus on the child aged 4–10 for whom you will develop interventions. As you construct your interventions, consider the information you have previously collected about this family. Utilize the Learning Resources and the current literature to support your post.

Post by Day 4 a brief summary of your client (young child), including presenting issues, family dynamics, and the young child’s attachment to primary caregiver(s). Then, describe at least one significant development-related issue for the young child. Explain why this is an issue. Finally, explain two interventions you might employ to enhance the young child’s development, including why you think they are appropriate. Justify your response with references to this week’s Learning Resources and the current literature. Be specific.

For these 2 distinct projects, imagine you are writing a series of short articles for a Bible dictionary. As we have seen in our study, Bible dictionaries are useful tools to learn more about the books, people, and places we encounter in Scripture.

Your task will be to write:

1.      Three concise 200–250-word essays about a book, person, and setting/place from the Old Testament (Due at the end of Module/Week 5).

2.      Three concise 200–250-word essays about a book, person, and setting/place from the New Testament (Due at the end of Module/Week 8).

Content Guidelines: Choose 1 book, person, and place from the list of the provided topics for each of the 2 projects.

Your essay must include the following per item:

Book:

This essay must include: The basic literary genre, authorship, date written, key themes, purposes, major events, and main personalities.

Person:

This essay must include: The dates of the character’s life, place of birth, summary of their role or positions held, defining events in their life and work, contemporaries (other biblical characters they are associated with, etc.), and their legacy. If they are a biblical author, list the related works.

Setting/Place (i.e., municipality, kingdom, empire):

This essay must include: The key dates (i.e., founding, demise, etc.), clarification of the location (regional description, the relevance of the place from a biblical/Ancient Near East (ANE) perspective, associated biblical books where it is a backdrop or central location), key attributes (religion, commerce, key figures, etc.), and associated biblical books.

Formatting Guidelines:

  • Use 1 Microsoft Word document for each stage of submission (That is, all of your Old Testament Bible Dictionary Project will be on 1 document, and all of your New Testament Bible Dictionary Project will be on 1 document).
  • Use 12-point, Times New Roman font.
