Explain these aspects of the drug in terms of the psychiatric disorders indicated for the drug and the issue(s) associated with that use

Rapid Review 3

(   cant write  paper  on risperdone  or ecstacy)

Select a psychoactive drug that is of pharmacological interest to you, but not one you will review as part of your Critical Review or one that was included in your previous Rapid Reviews. For this paper, you may choose drugs of abuse; however, the paper must focus on the pharmacology of the drug and not on the social or addictive aspects.  If you focus on addiction and social impact, your paper will not receive credit.

In addition to the text, research a minimum of three peer-reviewed articles published within the last five years on your selected drug. Prepare a three-page summary of the drug using the PSY630 Rapid Review Example paper (Links to an external site.) as a guide.
In your Rapid Review, analyze and explain the pharmacological aspects of the drug as they relate to the following: neurotransmitters affected, receptors, route of administration, half-life, doses, side effects, drug interactions, contraindications, and other important facets of the drug. Explain these aspects of the drug in terms of the psychiatric disorders indicated for the drug and the issue(s) associated with that use. If there is no accepted therapeutic use for the drug, evaluate and describe the actions of the drug with regard to the abuse process.

The paper:

  • Must be three to five double-spaced pages in length, excluding title page and references page, and it must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. (Links to an external site.)
  • Must include a title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Your name
    • Course name and number
    • Your instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must address the topic of the paper with critical thought.
  • Must use at least three peer-reviewed sources in addition to the text.
  • Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.

Carefully review the Grading Rubric (Links to an external site.) for the criteria that will be used to evaluate your assignment.

According to research studies, IQ and other standardized tests, such as the SAT and ACT, tend to measure logical and analytical reasoning skills. In your opinion, do you feel that we place too much emphasis on these tests to predict success? Explain your opinion based on your readings and how the results of these types of tests are used.

Broadening Traditional Views on Intelligence and Intelligence Testing (Worth 30 points)

The purpose of this discussion is to re-conceptualize intelligence while exploring multiple, diverse intelligences.

Learning Objective 3d and 4a

*Please note:* This discussion forum is “post first.” In other words, you will not see the posts of your classmates until after you post.

Step 1:  Please watch the following Ted Talk by Robert “Bob” Sternberg, the theorist who conceptualized the Triarchic Theory of Intelligence.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otlmKZeNi-U (Video runs 11:32, opens in new tab)

Step 2:  Watch the following vignette on Kim Peek, who is a person diagnosed as a savant that demonstrates calendar counting and other rare abilities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0lVdxXTANA (Video runs 7:56, opens in new tab)

Step 3:  Integrating what you learned from the textbook readings and watching the videos, please thoroughly respond to the following questions, integrating relevant content from the readings.

  • Traditional Intelligence Tests tend to measure logical and analytical reasoning.  The field of psychology tends to disagree regarding how intelligence should be defined.  With this in mind, compose and present your own thorough and thoughtful definition of intelligence.
  • According to research studies, IQ and other standardized tests, such as the SAT and ACT, tend to measure logical and analytical reasoning skills. In your opinion, do you feel that we place too much emphasis on these tests to predict success? Explain your opinion based on your readings and how the results of these types of tests are used.
  • Next, please click on the following link and take one of the tests based on Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences: Inventory of Multiple Intelligences (webpage, opens in new tab).  Describe your findings regarding your top three intelligences, and explain the extent to which you agree or disagree with the results.

After reading Chapter 5, Methods and Strategies in Research in the course text, choose an original peer-reviewed research article from the Week Two Articles List (Links to an external site.) provided  (or get approval from the instructor for another article)

After reading Chapter 5, Methods and Strategies in Research in the course text, choose an original peer-reviewed research article from the Week Two Articles List (Links to an external site.) provided  (or get approval from the instructor for another article). The list of articles will allow you to become familiar with a variety of methodologies used in the study of neurobehavioral symptoms as well as an extensive range of disorders that are appropriate for study in this field. As a professional in the field of psychology, you will often be asked to summarize and evaluate relevant research in the field for various audiences in an oral presentation.

Each student must evaluate a unique article that is not being reviewed by another classmate. You must “claim” your article by Day 1 by posting your choice in the Ashford Cafe. You will create a video of your oral presentation based on the criteria listed below and post a link to your video in the discussion forum by Day 3. Use YouTube.com or Screencast-o-matic to create and upload your video to the discussion forum. Refer to the YouTube WebCam Quick-Start Guide (Links to an external site.) or Screencast-o-matic Quick-Start Guide (Links to an external site.) for step by step instructions. It is highly recommended that you review the YouTube Privacy Policy (Links to an external site.) or Screencast-o-matic Privacy Policy (Links to an external site.) information prior to submitting your video.

Your 5 minute video presentation must include the following elements:

  • Brief overview
  • An analysis of the research methodology used
  • Independent and dependent variables
  • Study design
  • Explanation of the results
  • Strengths and weaknesses of the study
  • Suggestions for how to improve the research design or methodology

Note to Students: This assignment requires that you produce a visual presentation, supply a spoken audio narrative, and to listen the audio narrative of others.  Note you are also asked to provide a transcript of your presentation.  If you have a documented disability accommodation that might interfere with your ability to complete this assignment you may contact your instructor to develop a comparable alternative assignment.  If you have other issues that you feel may be a barrier to your ability to complete this course or this assignment please contact the Office of Access and Wellness at: access@ashford.edu.
