Discuss the implications of this correlation as it relates to the research question. Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and limitations of correlational analysis.

See the Resources area for links to resources that you will use for this assignment:

  1. You will complete this assignment using the Data Analysis and Application (DAA) Template.
  2. Read the SPSS Data Analysis Report Guidelines for a more complete understanding of the DAA Template and how to format and organize your assignment.
  3. Refer to IBM SPSS Step-By-Step Guide: Correlations for additional information on using SPSS for this assignment.
  4. If necessary, review the Copy/Export Output Instructions to refresh your memory on how to perform these tasks. As with your previous two assignments, your submission should be in narrative format with supporting statistical output (table and graphs) integrated into the narrative in the appropriate places (not all at the end of the document).

You will analyze the following variables in the grades.sav data set:

  • gender
  • gpa
  • total
  • final

Step 1: Write Section 1 of the DAA.

  • Provide the context of the grades.sav data set.
  • Include a definition of the specified variables and corresponding scales of measurement.
  • Indicate the type of correlation for each XY pair (Pearson’s r, Spearman’s r, point-biserial r, et cetera).
  • Specify the sample size of the data set.

Step 2: Write Section 2 of the DAA.

  • Test the assumptions of correlation for gpa and final.
  • Paste the SPSS histogram output for each variable and discuss your visual interpretations.
  • Paste SPSS descriptives output showing skewness and kurtosis values and interpret them.
  • Paste SPSS scatter plot output with “gpa” set to the horizontal axis and “final” set to the vertical axis. Conduct a visual inspection of the scatter plot to analyze other assumptions of correlation.
  • Summarize whether or not the assumptions of correlation are met.

Step 3: Write Section 3 of the DAA.

  • Specify a research question related to gpa and final.
  • Articulate the null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.
  • Specify your alpha level.

Step 4: Write Section 4 of the DAA.

  • Paste the SPSS output of the intercorrelation matrix for all specified variables.
    • First, report the lowest magnitude correlation in the intercorrelation matrix, including degrees of freedom, correlation coefficient, p value, and effect size. Interpret the effect size. Specify whether or not to reject the null hypothesis for this correlation.
    • Second, report the highest magnitude correlation in the intercorrelation matrix, including degrees of freedom, correlation coefficient, p value, and effect size. Interpret the effect size. Specify whether or not to reject the null hypothesis for this correlation.
    • Third, report the correlation between gpa and final, including degrees of freedom, correlation coefficient, p value, and effect size. Interpret the effect size. Analyze the correlation in terms of the null hypothesis.

Step 5: Write Section 5 of the DAA.

  • Discuss the implications of this correlation as it relates to the research question.
  • Conclude with an analysis of the strengths and limitations of correlational analysis.

Submit your DAA Template as an attached Word document in the assignment area.

Discuss the issue or trend you have chosen for your Assignment and using the Library, locate a resource on this issue or trend and share in APA format.

Discussion 1

At the beginning of the video, “Placebo: Cracking the Code” it is asserted that the “placebo effect challenges the foundation of modern medicine.” Why is this the case? Why is the concept of the placebo effect particularly important and relevant to the field of health psychology? Finally, what ethical issues are involved with the use of the placebo as a pain control treatment in research and in actual clinical treatment? In effect, is a doctor who prescribes a sugar pill (even if it works) to lessen symptoms harming a patient? What do you think of the use of the placebo?

Discussion 2

6-2 Short Paper: Coping with Terminal Illness

Task: Submit to complete this assignment   Please watch the PBS Frontline production entitled “Facing Death.” Then, in a short paper, discuss some of the issues involved in the end-of-life decision making that were portrayed within this video from the perspective of the terminally ill patients, their loved ones, and/or their caregivers. If you are able to, please describe how Kübler-Ross’s stages of grief were demonstrated within the various scenarios of the video.

Discussion 3

Part 1:

For your Unit 5 Assignment, you will choose an issue or trend in early childhood. Discuss the issue or trend you have chosen for your Assignment and using the Library, locate a resource on this issue or trend and share in APA format.

Part 2:

It is important for early childhood professionals to behave in a professional and ethical manner each day. The National Association for the Education of Young Children has composed the following Code that you will use for your Unit 5 Assignment and this discussion.

NAEYC. (2005, April). Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment. Retrieved from http://www.naeyc.org/files/naeyc/file/positions/PSETH05.pdf

Using the issue or trend that you have chosen for your Unit 5 Assignment, use the “Code of Ethical Conduct and Statement of Commitment” to discuss how professional ethics can affect this issue or trend and how.

Submit a Kaltura video of yourself discussing the client from the perspective of feminist theory. Your video should be no longer than 5 minutes. Although this is a professional presentation, it is not a formal presentation as in a speech. Imagine that you are discussing your case with a group of peers in a meeting.

Assignment: Application of Feminist Theory to a Case Study

This week your theoretical orientation is feminist theory. You will use the same case study that you chose in Week 2. Use the “Dissecting a Theory and Its Application to a Case Study” worksheet to help you dissect the theory. You do not need to submit this handout. It is a tool for you to use to dissect the theory and then you can employ the information in the table to complete your assignment.

To upload your media to this Assignment, use the Kaltura Media option from the mashup tool drop-down menu. Refer to the Kaltura Media Uploader area in the course navigation menu for more information about how to upload media to the course.

By Day 7

Submit a Kaltura video of yourself discussing the client from the perspective of feminist theory. Your video should be no longer than 5 minutes.

  • Although this is a professional presentation, it is not a formal presentation as in a speech. Imagine that you are discussing your case with a group of peers in a meeting. To verbally present a case can be challenging—but it is also a skill for which practice can relieve anxiety and result in improvement. This will give you an opportunity to practice how to deliver material in a professional manner.
  • You can have notes in front of you to help you remember your points.
  • However, your video does need to be professional. In other words, dress professionally, maintain eye contact as if you were speaking in front of your colleagues, and finally be sure to record yourself in a room that is quiet and where no one interrupts you.

Your video presentation should include the following:

  • In 1 to 2 sentences, identify and describe the problem to be worked on in your chosen case study.
  • In 1 to 2 sentences, explain how feminist theory you are utilizing defines and explains the cause of the problem.
  • In 1 to 2 sentences, use feminist theory to describe the role of the social worker to facilitate change in the case study.
  • In the assessment phase, identify 2 assessment questions you will ask to explore what the client’s goals are and how they will get there.
    • Remember, feminist theory should be driving the assessment.
  • Describe two interventions to address the problem and explain how the clients will implement the interventions.
    • Remember, feminist theory should be driving the interventions.
  • In 2 to 3 sentences, discuss how you would evaluate if one of the interventions you identified is effective with the client.
  • Explain how, specifically, you will set the tone throughout your work with the client to reduce the hierarchical relationship and make it more collaborative.
  • Evaluate one strength and one limitation of feminist theory in working with the client.

Be sure to:

  • Identify and correctly reference the case study you have chosen.
  • Speak clearly.

How could an individual or organization use knowledge about the motivation theories and models above to increase motivation within the workplace?

Psychology Emotion & Motivation Case Analysis Assignment

Emotion & Motivation Case Analysis Assignment

Due: Week Seven

Points: 100

Case Analysis

Joe, Stacie, and Shannon are all employees within the same organization. Consider each employee’s characteristics below. Then address the questions following the employee descriptions.

Employee 1: Joe enjoys coming to work each day. He finds pleasure in the outcome of his work. He believes his work helps others. He seeks out new ways to make his work more effective, and often initiates new work projects. He likes to stay busy throughout the day. He sometimes has a hard time if there is not enough work to do. He has no desire to leave the organization and would like to continue to be promoted within the company as he gains experience.

Employee 2: Stacie finds that although she used to like her current position within the company, she now finds it less rewarding. She has been in the same position for a few years, and in the past, enjoyed working on the team she was assigned. Recently, she had the opportunity to work on a special project, but this work was temporary. She found the brainstorming, planning, and development related to the project invigorating and engaging. Once the project was completed, she returned to her prior position. She no longer finds her current position as satisfying as she used to prior to working on the special project. She is considering changing positions within the company, if possible, or seeking out a job in another organization.

Employee 3: Shannon comes to work every day on time. She does her job as assigned, works very hard, takes on challenging tasks to improve performance, and ensures that this is noticed by others. She is very clear about the expectations for her position as well as the criteria for evaluation. During annual evaluations, she hopes her evaluation scores are high enough for her to be eligible for a merit raise. One of her primary goals for this year is to be nominated for the employee of the year award at the company’s annual dinner, which comes with both a preferred parking space and a cash bonus.

(a) Select two of the employees above. For each employee, select one of the theories/models below, and explain why that model/theory applies to the selected employee. (use a different model for each employee]

Achievement Motive (3 aspects of achievement-oriented behavior)
Arousal Theory
Drive Reduction Theory
Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
(b) Consider how emotions might influence the motivation of the employees you selected. Which emotions might decrease motivation in one of the above employee scenarios? Which emotions might increase motivation in one of the above employee scenarios? Explain.

(c) How could an individual or organization use knowledge about the motivation theories and models above to increase motivation within the workplace?

Requirements: Length = approximately 2 pages.
