Explain how societal events over this century have shaped the field of I/O psychology in general and your chosen research area specifically.

Assignment 3: Recognizing and Projecting Trends in I/O Psychology

Consider the trends discussed in the required readings for this module along with relevant learning from your courses throughout the MAIO program. Further, using the Argosy University online library resources and the Internet, choose one of the thirteen research areas suggested in the required reading article by Cascio and Aguinis (2008). Then, respond to the following:

  • Explain how societal events over this century have shaped the field of I/O psychology in general and your chosen research area specifically.
  • Identify trends you expect to emerge within the field of I/O psychology generally and your chosen research area specifically in the next ten years. Explain and support your predictions with evidence from scholarly literature.
  • Describe competencies you think will be especially important for an I/O professional for these future trends. Justify your reasoning for the importance of these competencies.

Your final product will be a 3- to 5-page Microsoft Word document written in APA format and utilizing at least three sources from professional literature. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library resources, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, and .gov). Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Describe how situational factors, such as the structure, size, environment, and geographic location of the organization, may affect the leaders’ success. [Unit Learning Outcome 3.2]

For this essay, you will be addressing how leaders in your current or past organization handle motivation and empowerment. If you do not have a workplace example, you can use a civic, volunteer, or school experience as the basis for your essay.

  • Include background information on the organization you are discussing.
  • Describe how situational factors, such as the structure, size, environment, and geographic location of the organization, may affect the leaders’ success. [Unit Learning Outcome 3.2]
  • Examine the tools and techniques the leaders are currently using to motivate or empower individuals within their organization. [Unit Learning Outcome 3.1]
  • Address whether or not these tools and techniques are successful in motivating both you and other employees. Be sure to include examples. [Unit Learning Outcome 3.1]
  • Conclude by suggesting improvements that could be made to enhance the leaders’ abilities to motivate and empower. [Unit Learning Outcome 3.1]

Your final essay must be a minimum of two pages, not counting the title and reference pages that are required. Utilize and cite your textbook for support, but you may also use outside scholarly resources. Click here to access a video from the CSU Online Library to learn how to find peer-reviewed articles. Your essay must follow APA 6th edition format.

Please include a cover page, a separate page with an abstract, and a reference page; these don’t count towards the 5-6 page total.

1) A 1-2 paragraph description of the question of interest.

2) A 1-2 paragraph summary of the method and results of each of the studies you read (there might be more than three total if one or more of your articles reported multiple studies).  Be succinct and do not plagiarize!  Use your own words to describe what was done and what was found.

3) A 2-4 page integrative summary of the results presented in the three articles, in which you provide as clear an answer as possible to your original question.  Note that in some cases, there might not be a clear answer.  For example, if one study found that Asian Americans had higher rates of PTSD than European Americans, a second study found that European Americans had higher rates of PTSD than Asian Americans, and a third study found no ethnic differences in the prevalence rates of PTSD, there is no clear answer to the question “Are Asian Americans and

European Americans equally likely to experience PTSD after a trauma?”  In a case like this, your integrative summary should focus on a discussion of why the three studies might have had such different findings.  Perhaps one or two studies had serious methodological problems.  In that case, you might want to rely more heavily on the findings of the other study.  Or perhaps all studies were methodologically strong, but there were key differences that might explain the different findings.  Be sure to have a strong bottom line at the end of your paper, even if it is merely to say “We don’t know the answer to this question yet.”

4)Use “New York firefighter recalls 9/11” video as reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DGjTdBg0lY

5)The paper should follow APA format (if you need assistance with APA format, consult with your TA).  Please include a cover page, a separate page with an abstract, and a reference page; these don’t count towards the 5-6 page total.  Page numbers are required.  Proofread and spell-check your paper before turning it in.

Develop an initial mental health postarrest assessment for Doe that  includes a line of questioning to determine personality type and suicide  risk.

For this assignment, analyze the case and answer the questions following it.

John Doe is a twenty-one-year-old Caucasian male, who  was arrested at his home, which he shared with his parents and older  sister. He was charged with possession and distribution of child  pornography. The defendant grew up in a semirural environment. He has a  slight speech impediment. He was sexually molested by a distant relative  at the age of nine, who has since been incarcerated on an unrelated  charge. Doe has been using marijuana and alcohol since he was fourteen.  Doe was held back in second grade and subsequently was in special  education classes. He had sex for the first time at the age of eighteen  with a girl he knew from the neighborhood. They were both drunk at the  time and she made fun of his clumsiness. He did not enjoy the  experience. Doe graduated from high school at the age of nineteen and  has stayed home since then. He never found employment. He is mildly  depressed. Doe enjoys playing video games on his computer, which his  parents bought him when he graduated from high school.
When interviewed by the arresting officers, Doe agreed  to answer questions. He has been a member of several chat rooms, where  child pornography in the form of both pictures and videos is shared. A  subsequent search of Doe’s computer revealed hundreds of images and  videos of adult males engaging in sexual activities with prepubescent  children. When booked into the local jail, John sliced his wrists with a  razor and attempted to hang himself using a torn T-shirt. The cuts were  superficial and the noose broke, causing John to fall to the floor and  hit his head. He never lost consciousness. His defense attorney  requested an evaluation for competency to stand trial and legal sanity.  After a three-month treatment with psychotropic medication for  depression, Doe was found competent to proceed to trial. The evaluation  for legal sanity did not produce significant results. Doe decided to  accept a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a  hundred-month sentence (eight years and four months), followed by ten  years of supervised release. If he had gone to trial and lost, he could  have received a prison sentence between fifteen and twenty years in  length. Doe was sent to a federal prison facility specializing in  treatment of sex offenders.

Based on the above information, respond to the following questions:

  • Develop an initial mental health postarrest assessment for Doe that  includes a line of questioning to determine personality type and suicide  risk.
  • Develop an initial investigative postarrest assessment for Doe, focusing on possible motivations for the crime in question.
  • Compare the differences between how law enforcement personnel and a  forensic mental health professional would conduct assessment and  criminal investigative procedures in the case of Doe.
  • Based on reviewed research, describe 3–4 personality characteristics  and motivational dynamics of an individual who is capable of such a  crime.
  • Develop an appropriate postconviction treatment for Doe, including  specific recommendations for type of treatment (cognitive-behavioral,  psychodynamic, and medication) and modality (individual and group) as  well as outcome measures, which would evaluate his progress.
  • Describe 2–3 appropriate psychological tests that could be useful in  psychological profiling and/or criminal investigation for this case.

Support your responses giving reasons and examples from 6–7 scholarly resources.

Write a 6- to 8-page paper in a Microsoft Word document. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.
