What kind of professional development will the staff need to make this center a success? How might this improve services to those in need?

4-5 pages due by Feb 4 …   You have learned many of the basic elements of a chemical dependency center in today’s world. Now it is time to write a report that will be used in a final proposal for a new treatment center. Consider what you have already learned, and continue your research about addiction and recovery theories, services, and continuum of care to design the most effective treatment center possible. Based on current issues that you have learned about, consider the changes you believe could be made to improve this evolving system.

Start with some of the following questions:

What do you think the future best practices might look like?

How might you care for the professionals in a field while they are caring for their clients?

What kind of professional development will the staff need to make this center a success? How might this improve services to those in need?

Given what you know and what your group discovered and discussed about modern treatment facilities, use your imagination to come up with a futuristic model of an addiction and recovery services center. Be sure to address the following information in a proposal of 4–5 pages:

Objective

Type of facility

Need for the facility

Purpose of the facility

Current issues or challenges the facility is designed to address

Mission statement of the facility

Philosophy or theories practiced within the facility

Logistics

Populations to be served by the facility

Treatments used in the facility

Physical appearance of the facility

Type of staff

Professional development that will be available to staff

Consider the textbook research focused on what’s in a name- discuss how this research specifically relates to terms, names and labels used by individuals in this film, and discuss its implications.

Increasingly, many young women have either become, or are trying to be, “sugar babies” for various reasons. Their ambition is for a sweet life of pampered luxury or help for moving to their next stage in life (e.g. college tuition, career networking, saving to start a business)- all paid for by older men. But as reporter Sarah Abo finds out, it’s important to read between the lines. And that leads to a very important question: is this phenomenon about empowering women or exploiting them?

Research Papers must reference course materials and at least one external peer reviewed journal article per question set using APA style. Your Research Papers should be 9-12 pages (not including the required reference page or optional title page); this is typically what would be required to ensure your paper is comprehensive and has a depth of analysis outline in the grading criteria. Your paper should have a maximum of 1-inch margins, Times New Roman Font size 12, and in Microsoft word format.  Review the ASSIGNMENTS INFORMATION- RESEARCH PAPER section of the course. Research Papers are to be submitted by 11pm of the posted due date.

Please note that there are a total of three sets of questions you must answer (see below); each set is on a specific topic we covered in the class and contains three questions. Answer the first two questions in each set of topic area questions listed below drawing from the course readings. Then answer the third question in each set using a peer reviewed article you find on your own; this means you will have to use a total of three different external peer reviewed articles.  Review the ASSIGNMENTS INFORMATION- RESEARCH PAPER INFORMATION and RESEARCH PAPER EXAMPLES folder for more details.

Required Research Paper Questions

1. Power & Privilege

Review the textbook research on the ambivalent sexism; discuss in detail how any two of these research findings are supported or refuted in this report. Consider the textbook research focused on what’s in a name– discuss how this research specifically relates to terms, names and labels used by individuals in this film, and discuss its implications. Comprehensively explain the external peer reviewed research findings examining the inequalities in intimate relationships; discuss how these results would explain what appears to occurs between Sugar Daddies and Sugar Babies.

2. Women’s Bodies

Review the textbook research on the Beauty Matters; discuss in detail how any two of these research findings are supported or refuted in this report. Pulling from the textbook research focused on Why Does Objectification Occur discuss how it is supported and refuted by assertions made in this report. Drawing upon external peer reviewed research that examines the benefits of beauty for economic gain or benefits (e.g. higher salary, quid pro quo), explain the short and long term implications of these findings for Sugar Babies.

3. Sexuality and Sexualization

Consider the textbook research examining Sexualization- Selling Women’s Bodies and Sex Work; discuss how any findings would explain the dynamics occurring in some of the Sugar Daddy/ Sugar Baby relationships presented in this report. Discuss in detail how the textbook research focused on the sexual agency are or are not applicable to the Sugar Babies’ experiences. Find an external peer reviewed research study that examines consensual sex work among legal adults; discuss how it may support or refute any two assertions presented in the video.

What resources and support will you need to do make this happen, and how/from whom specifically will you acquire them?  2. What specific target group of women or girls will benefit from your action plan?

This assignment requires you to create your own action plan that incorporates a Social Justice perspective as an implicit theme underlying the Psychology of Women. Ask yourself “What could I do to help make this a more just and fair world for girls and/or women?” Considering such basic course concepts as gender, power/privilege, race, class, ethnicity, media impact, socialization, gender theory, etc., what might YOU realistically do to impact positive change for women or girls? We obviously cannot all sing melodiously for a benefit concert, or go to Africa as a volunteer, but each of us has the potential to make at least some level of positive difference. Previous ideas have included a prom dress drive to donate to local High Schools where students cannot afford to purchase new ones; old cell phones or clothing collected on a campus and at work and donated to a local battered women’s shelter; creation of a “Young Women’s Club” to inform and empower the girls at a local school, etc. In your personalized plan, do not use the examples provided-instead, introspect thoughtfully about who YOU are; you might consider your major and the expectations for your own future; think about your “sphere of influence” (friends & family, coworkers and others with whom you interact), think about your values and the world you would like to shape for future females…Include the answers to the following questions in your essay.

1. What resources and support will you need to do make this happen, and how/from whom specifically will you acquire them?

2. What specific target group of women or girls will benefit from your action plan?

3. How much time could you realistically commit to this project if you were to actually implement it?

4. You may NOT propose creating a new business entity, corporation, partnership or non-profit. The associated legal process is too time consuming for this small project…

Please write enough detail that if I wanted to, I could actually implement your plan from the description you have provided, without having to ask further questions or clarifications from you. Be realistic, be creative, be honest, and make it “do-able,”a project you would be able to completeduring a single semester. Your written submission should be approximately 600-800 words, it must be cut & pasted within the text box (NO ATTACHMENTS) using the Blackboard Change Agent Assignment tool. Vocabulary and grammar are important, so write carefully and please take the time to spellcheck and to proofread. A well-written, thoughtful and practical action plan, submitted according to these instructions, can earn up to 40online assignment points.

Describe an approach you would take to help the military expand or better address either suicide, stigma, or substance abuse.

Suicide, stigma associated with accessing services, and substance abuse are real issues for the military. Although military social workers lead the field in these issues, there is always more work to be done. The civilian world is watching as the military works toward assuring access to services that will help their personnel. In fact, many programs developed within the military have been reproduced for a civilian environment. At the same time, there are programs outside of the military that could be tailored to help military personnel. In this Discussion, you consider other steps the military could take in the areas of suicide, stigma, or substance abuse.

To prepare for this Discussion, read the case study, “Working With Clients With Suicidal Ideations: The Case of Denise,” located in the Learning Resources.

Post(2 to 3)

  • Describe an approach you would take to help the military expand or better address either suicide, stigma, or substance abuse.
  • Describe how the situation depicted in the case study could have been handled differently via your approach.
