Explain the methods you would use and data you would collect to assess whether you have achieved each of your SMART goals.

During the Discussion this week, you explored different leadership styles. For this Assignment, you will use your leader assessment results to identify a style that comes naturally to you and a different style that might be useful in the leadership role you selected. As you do so, keep in mind that leaders often use more than one style at a time to meet the unique needs of the organization and followers. As a result, you may determine that it is best to combine styles to be most effective in the leadership role you selected. In addition to identifying your leadership styles, you will consider your current and desired stages of development in the Leadership Maturity Framework. The framework includes nine stages of leader development, with lower stages representing rigid and simplistic ways of thinking and higher stages representing flexible and complex ways of thinking.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review the results of your leader assessments. Identify a leadership style that comes naturally to you and a different leadership style that would be effective for your chosen leadership role.
  • Read the article, “Leadership Maturity Framework.” Consider the characteristics associated with each stage of development. Identify your current stage of development and the stage of development that most closely maps to the leadership role.
  • Go to the leader development Learning Resources.
    • Review the resource entitled “SMART criteria” and the chapter “How to Set Development Goals.” Create one SMART goal to improve or maintain your stage in the Leadership Maturity Framework and one SMART goal to develop a leadership style (or combination of styles) that would be effective for the leadership role you selected.
    • Peruse the other resources and identify one development activity you would complete to achieve each goal.
    • Read the article “Evaluating Leadership Development Programs.” Consider the methods you would use and data you would collect to assess whether you achieved your goal. Be sure to focus on Level 3 (Application and Implication) and 4 (Results or Business Impact) of the evaluation framework.

By Day 7

Submit a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following.

  • Using the Leadership Maturity Framework, identity the stage of development that is closest to how you currently operate. Then identify the stage that most closely maps to the leadership role you described in Week 1.
    • If the stages are different, create one SMART goal and identify one leader development activity that would help you progress to the desired stage of the maturity framework.
    • If the stages are the same, create one SMART goal and identify one leader development activity to help you maintain that stage.
  • Based on your results from the leadership assessments(MLQAL attached), identify one leadership style that comes naturally to you. Then, identify a different leadership style you think would be effective for the leadership role and explain why. Finally, create one SMART goal and identify one leader development activity that would help you further develop that leadership style.
  • Explain the methods you would use and data you would collect to assess whether you have achieved each of your SMART goals.

How is the therapeutic approach of Bettelheim to autistic children similar to the child-rearing philosophy of Gesell?

After you have completed adequate research on the noted personality theorist Rogers  and his client centered therapy, and how he envisioned both problems  and solutions, write a letter in response to this fictional client:

  • Someone has come to you expressing a number of problems: the  person’s marriage is a mess, they hate their job, they cannot complete  work on time, they feel overwhelmed and cranky much of the time, and  even their dog doesn’t like them much of the time.

While working from the Humanistic (client centered) perspective,  you will need to inform your fictional “client” what you believe the  client can do about the problems the client is having. Using Rogerian  theory and terms, how might you tell the client to set things to right  again?

Your letter should display clear evidence (such as textbook terms in bold  font) that you understand what the theorist considers a healthy,  well-adjusted personality, and how to help someone build one. No direct  quotes of the textbook or other source is permitted. Citation can be  informal – just list your college level research sources after your signature.

1.  Must we go through all the stages in Erikson’s theory? In Piaget’s theory? Explain.

2.  How is the therapeutic approach of Bettelheim to autistic children similar to the child-rearing philosophy of Gesell?

3.  If Rousseau were alive, how highly would he regard Schachtel’s work? Explain.

4.  a) Contrast the positions of Bandura and Chomsky on how children develop language.

b) How does either evidence on “motherese” OR on creoles bear on this debate?

5.  Today’s standards movement implores all of us to do a better job of preparing children for the future. What does Crain, the textbook author, say about this goal?

Your responses should be approximately one-half to one page each (double-spaced) for a total of three-six pages (not including Title and References Pages if you choose to include them).

After reviewing the current research in the various age groups what similarities did you find in the types of research and what was being studied? What differences did you find?

Assignment 2: Final Project

The purpose of this assignment is to utilize what you learned thus far.   To do that you will be writing an essay.

One way in which psychology examines issues in life-span development is to review current research on related topics. For this assignment you will review current research and provide a critical evaluation on that research through an annotated bibliography. An annotated bibliography is simply a brief summary and analysis of the journal article reviewed. For more information on the required format of the bibliography please click on annotated bibliography template.

You will need to find research articles located in scholarly journals. Scholarly journal articles are also referred as primary source peer reviewed articles. A scholarly journal article can be found in the South University Online Library. To find more information regarding utilizing the South University Library and accessing scholarly journal articles click on Library Guide. What cannot be used for this assignment are web pages, magazines, newspapers, text books, and other books. Finally, current research for our purposes is an article that was published within the last 5 to 6 years.

Remember this is a course on human development so when looking for articles make sure that it is related to the subject matter covered in the course. Include one or more of the following as topic areas in your search:

  • Major developmental theories across the lifespan
  • Nature of geographic, gender, social, cognitive, emotional, and developmental factors during each period of development
  • Developmental factors that impact one another.
  • Historical and current trends in development
  • Current trends which may differentially impact the future development of populations in the United States
  • Social, and diversity issues related to developmental psychology

For this assignment you will find 2 journal articles for each of these age groups:

  • Adulthood
  • Older Adults

The annotated bibliography should include for each article.

  • Write a 2 paragraph summary for each article.
  • Write a 1-2 paragraph analysis and evaluation for each article found.
  • Make sure to integrate what you learned in your course readings in that analysis

Summary:  For week 5 you will also write a summary (1-2 pages) of what you learned from your research on the different age groups (including week 3 age groups) as seen from the life-span perspective. To assist in the development of this summary answer the following questions:

  • After reviewing the current research in the various age groups what similarities did you find in the types of research and what was being studied? What differences did you find?
  • Based on your course readings what developmental theories did you find that were applicable?
  • Explain how the life-span perspective provides a way of better understanding the research reviewed.

Format:

  • Used correct spelling, grammar, and professional vocabulary.
  • Used APA format including:
    • Title page
    • Double space
    • Reference page
    • Cited and referencing all sources using the APA format.

Develop two assessment questions that are guided by attachment theory that you would ask the client to understand how the stress or distress is affecting the client.

As you have read, theory guides the conceptualization of the client’s problem and how social workers assess and intervene relative to the problem. However, theory can also shape the self-reflective questions social workers ask themselves. Clients often come to social workers under stress or distress. This then affects how the social worker responds and thus the client-social worker relationship. As a result, Foley, Nash, and Munford (2009) employed attachment theory as a “lens in which to view the reflective process itself and to gain greater understanding and empathy for what each social worker within each unique social work-client relationship can access of that relationship for reflection” (pp. 44).

This week, you will apply attachment theory to the case study you chose in Week 2. In other words, your theoretical orientation—or lens—is attachment theory as you analyze the case study.

To prepare:

  • Review the same case study you selected from last week’s Assignment. (Remember, you will be using this same case study throughout the entire course). Use the “Dissecting a Theory and Its Application to a Case Study” worksheet to help you dissect the theory. You do not need to submit this handout. It is a tool for you to use to dissect the theory, and then you can employ the information in the table to complete your assignment.
  • Review attachment theory and the following article listed in the Learning Resources: Foley, M., Nash, M., & Munford, R. (2009). Bringing practice into theory: Reflective practice and attachment theory. Aotearoa New Zealand Social Work Review, 21(1/2), p39–47. Retrieved http://dx.doi.org/10.11157/anzswj-vol21iss1-2id318

By Day 7

Submit a 1- to 2-page case write-up that addresses the following:

  • Summarize the assumptions of attachment theory in 2 to 3 sentences.
  • Identify the problem in your chosen case study to be worked on from an attachment theory perspective.
  • Explain how attachment theory defines and explains the cause of the problem in one to two sentences.
  • Develop two assessment questions that are guided by attachment theory that you would ask the client to understand how the stress or distress is affecting the client.
  • Discuss two interventions to address the problem. Remember, the theory should be driving the interventions. In other words, you would not identify systematic desensitization since this is not an intervention guided by attachment theory.
  • Formulate one self-reflective question that is influenced by attachment theory that you can ask yourself to gain greater empathy for what the client is experiencing.
  • Explain which outcomes you could measure to evaluate client progress based theory.

Be sure to:

  • Identify and correctly reference the case study you have chosen.
  • Use literature to support your claims.
  • Use APA formatting and style.
    • Remember to double-space your paper.
