Create a 15- to 20-minute oral presentation that you would give to sell your program to the company or organization where the conflict exists

In this assignment, you will integrate the concepts of conflict resolutiongroup influence, and attribution to develop a program of conflict resolution to a current conflict situation.

Identify a conflict between two groups, and obtain approval from your instructor.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word paper in which you create a program to improve the relationship between two groups. Examples include between police and a community, managers and subordinates, the city council committee and a special interest group, and unions and management. Be specific in identifying what community, company, or organization you are writing about.

Nature of the Conflict

  • Describe the context of the conflict. What kind of community or organization is this? Who are the stakeholders in the outcome of the conflict?
  • Identify the overt and covert issues presenting both sides.
  • Describe the effect the conflict has on the organization within which it exists and, if applicable, the surrounding community.
  • Identify attribution errors and how they will be addressed in the program.
  • Analyze the dynamics within each group and between groups. Who are the leaders? Does anyone stall or undermine the group? Is there a relationship between two subgroups?

Program Design

  • Apply the elements of conflict resolution.
  • Describe the central strategy you will use to resolve or diminish the conflict.
  • Provide at least one reference supporting the use of such a strategy.
  • Include a program component that employs social media.
  • Explain how you will address attribution errors between the groups.
  • Identify the elements of persuasion you will use in your program.

Create a 15- to 20-minute oral presentation that you would give to sell your program to the company or organization where the conflict exists. The presentation should be accompanied by 10 Microsoft® PowerPoint® slides with speaker notes that include the following:

  • The goals of the program
  • The logistics of the program (schedule, location, and so on)
  • The content of the program (any worksheets, activities, or events)

Cite at least 4 references in your presentation, including the reference that demonstrates research support of your program strategy.

Format any citations in your presentation according to APA guidelines.

Explain the social variables that contribute to the thoughts, feelings, or actions under review.

As you have gathered in the previous weeks, social psychological insight is relevant to many fields. Some branches of social psychology are specifically focused on application.  In this discussion, we will consider practical applications beyond the scope of previous material.

To inform your thinking on this topic, begin by perusing The Stanford SPARQ Solutions Catalog (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..  Consider the recommended readings to gain additional insight regarding systematic application of social psychology to various fields.

Then, select an applied branch of social psychology:  psychology and law/forensic psychology, military psychology, health psychology, environmental psychology, etc.  Locate a peer-reviewed, empirical article (i.e., an article that describes a research study, not merely a theoretical review) written from your chosen field.  Summarize the theoretical background of the issue at hand and describe research methods used to investigate this phenomenon.  Explain the social variables that contribute to the thoughts, feelings, or actions under review.   Generate potential applications for the insight gleaned from the article you reviewed, and interpret application of social psychological insight to specific careers in this field.

Your initial post should be 500-1000 words in length and must contain a minimum of one scholarly, peer-reviewed reference, in addition to required course resources as applicable.  Additional credible references are encouraged.

Explain whether you agree or disagree with the use of information from social media networks to persuade a particular audience

Social Media Data Mining

Joe receives an e-mail for a friend request from his childhood friend, Sara, on a social network site. Joe accepts her request and uses the chat function to send an instant message to her. Joe and Sara have a long conversation and catch up on the past 20 years. Sara notices on Joe’s profile page that he is a conservative, went to a university near their hometown, and has a Chihuahua. Joe sees on Sara’s profile page that she is a liberal, went to art school, and is a reality television fanatic. Seeing Sara’s interest sparks his memory of a time at work when his co-workers talked about a show that involves a dog whisperer. He begins to watch the show and is instantly hooked. He becomes a follower on the dog whisper’s microblog, buys his dog training videos, and clicks the “Like” button on his social network page. Knowing Sara’s interest for reality television, Joe recommends the show about the dog whisperer to her.

As the year progresses, both Joe and Sara check each other’s social network feeds from time to time and see photos and videos of each other doing different things. Joe posts a video of his Chihuahua hopping around the coffee table, a trick he learned from the dog whisperer. Sara posts photos of paintings she painted of her favorite reality television stars. Later in the year, Joe begins to receive Luxury Chihuahua sweater catalogs in the mail. Sara begins to see Reality Television Fan Club ads on the side of her frequently visited websites. How do companies know about Joe’s passion for Chihuahua fashion and Sara’s addiction to reality television? What other information could companies and other interests groups gain from Joe and Sara’s social network pages?

Businesses and other interest groups realize that social media can be used for more than initiating communication among long-lost friends; it can also be used to gather data about an individual’s personal and professional interests. Through a process known as data mining, collected data from social media and other networks can be further analyzed to find similarities or patterns and categorized into useful information to market certain products, services, and even political candidates.

For this week’s Discussion, you evaluate the use of social media data mining to persuade a particular audience. You also evaluate whether data mining is an ethical persuasion strategy.

A 3 paragraph evaluation of the use of social media data mining to persuade audiences. Explain whether you agree or disagree with the use of information from social media networks to persuade a particular audience. Then, explain whether you believe data mining is an ethical persuasion strategy. Cite a specific example from this week’s Learning Resources or outside resources to support your evaluation.

Groups for Children

Review the group proposal for children who have been abused, described on pages 345–351 of your text. Incorporate concepts from your text and Hiller, Springer, Misurell, Kranzler, and Rizvi’s 2016 research to assess the inclusion of developmental stages and therapeutic factors.
