What is your opinion on the benefit or detriment of what the advertisers are trying to sell? Do you think this product/idea is useful?

Book:  Berger, K. (2016). Invitation to the Life Span. New York, New York: Worth Publishers.

With the population of older adults on the rise, there are growing depictions of the aging population in popular culture, media, and advertising. For this assignment, you are asked to find 4 examples of adults in advertisement, critiquing them through the lens of accurate adult development, as well comparing and contrasting them.

Instructions:

Find 4 advertisements for or about individuals who are in late adulthood (over the age of 65). Examples could be print, commercial, or web based.  In a PowerPoint presentation, present your examples using one slide for each example. For each slide, include either: a picture of the advertisement, a link and screenshot of the video if you are using a commercial, or an Internet link and screenshot of the website if you are using a web based advertisement.

In the “notes” section of the PowerPoint presentation, critique the ad by address the following questions:

  • How are the advertisers trying to depict older adults and/or the aging process?
  • What biases do the advertisers display about older adults or the aging process?
  • Point to information in the textbook (and at least one other scholarly source-from the NU library) that either confirm or oppose this depiction of older adults and/or the aging process?
  • What are the advertisers trying to sell (ex what kind of product or idea)?
  • What is your opinion on the benefit or detriment of what the advertisers are trying to sell? Do you think this product/idea is useful?

Each slide should include citation of the advertisement itself, as well as of the information used in critique.

On a separate slide of your presentation, include a picture depicting each of your examples. Use the notes section to compare and contrast each of your examples. Cite the textbook (or other scholarly sources) as support for your responses.

For example you could address these questions:

  • Is there is one advertisement you think more accurately presents the aging population or offers a service that better serves them? Describe which one and why.
  • Is there one example that presents more ageist views than another? Include a description of why.
  • Is there one example that you feel would resonate the most with older adults? Include a description of why.

The last slide of your presentation should be a reference page, citing all of the references used throughout the whole presentation.

Review and provide a minimum list of six resources you intend to use for each domain. For assistance with researching your resources, please view the Psychology Subject Guide in the Ashford University Library.

Prior to beginning work on this written assignment, be sure to carefully review the instructions for the Final Assignment, which is due at the end of Week Six. In preparation for that assignment, you will list the four required content domains you have chosen for the Integrative Literature Review and provide a minimum list of six resources you intend to use for each domain. For assistance with researching your resources, please view the Psychology Subject Guide in the Ashford University Library.

For the group of resources in each domain, evaluate the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the research findings and provide a rationale for including the group within the domain. These rationales should include descriptions of how the research findings will function together in the Integrative Literature Review.

Please use the format below for each of the four domains.

Name of the Domain: (e.g., Psychopharmacology)
List the complete references for each of the six resources. Format your reference list in alphabetical order according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.).

Rationale:
One to two paragraphs including the required information noted above.

The Resources for the Integrative Literature Review

  • Must include a separate title page with the following:
    • Title of paper
    • Student’s name
    • Course name and number
    • Instructor’s name
    • Date submitted
  • Must use at least 24 scholarly sources, including a minimum of 20 from the Ashford University Library.
  • Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
  • Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center

Develop a recorded/narrated PowerPoint or Prezi that is 4-5 minutes in length. This is an opportunity to refine your presentation skills and to see how it feels to be professor or invited speaker on a topic.

Now that you have completed and submitted your final paper, it is time to share your research and analysis with a broader audience through a narrated presentation. For this assignment, you will create a professional presentation based on the main points of your final paper. Develop a recorded/narrated PowerPoint or Prezi that is 4-5 minutes in length. This is an opportunity to refine your presentation skills and to see how it feels to be professor or invited speaker on a topic. Your presentation should address the following:

  1. Introduction that briefly outlines the rest of the presentation (personality theory selected, nature of the situation analyzed)
  2. Synthesis of findings from the literature review that briefly outlines major tenets or concepts of your selected personality theory, criticisms of the theory, and advantages of the theory
  3. Description of the real-world situation
  4. Application of the theory to analyze the real-world situation
  5. Conclusion that synthesizes your main points and findings, and offers implications for practice or further research

At the end of your presentation, pose a discussion question to your peers regarding your personality theory and application of it to the real-world situation. Your question should be open-ended (one that can’t be answered in single sentence), and should encourage your audience to share their own perspectives and understanding of your presentation as they answer the question. This will be used to engage your peers when they view and respond to the presentation in the “Module 6: Final Paper Presentation” discussion topic.

Your presentation should demonstrate your professionalism. This includes the use of appropriate text and images and your demeanor when presenting (speaking clearly and audibly, not just read the words from the slide, etc.). The page “How to Design a Good PowerPoint Presentation” offers helpful guidelines.

Discussion of societal norms for those comparables. What seem to be the “rules” they follow? Is there open or tacit regulation you’ve noticed?

Instructions

Social media use is critical to a dynamic and competitive brand, whether that brand is something you sell, a group home, a non-profit organization, or your self-image. This project will get you thinking about effective ways to shape your social media tools to make the most of your brand, to keep consumers talking and thinking about your brand, and to get interaction from those you seek to sell to or to help. You will take a look at what you post to social media, possible responses or reactions you will receive, as well as use social media trends and society controls to keep your brand meeting your goals.

Your final project should include a plan for the following: how you will utilize a minimum of four social media sites; what your target audience will be; your use of contacts, outreach, and advertising best practices; your posting do’s and don’ts; and explanations of your choices using the sources from the course and others you find.

If you have a real business, brand, or site to work on, you can start by putting the site profiles into the four social media sites you have chosen (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Screenshots will work for these that you have really made. If you don’t really have a business or brand, you do not need to create faux profiles. However, you should write the information you would include in your profile for each one.

In summary, your plan should contain:

  • An introduction to your brand or company
  • Your social media goals and general goals for the brand
  • An analysis of the market comparables — similar businesses/nonprofits/brands, including what has been successful and what hasn’t worked for at least 3 good comparable brands
  • Discussion of societal norms for those comparables. What seem to be the “rules” they follow? Is there open or tacit regulation you’ve noticed? Include how you can expand your influence globally by overcoming potential language and culture barriersÂ
  • An analysis of advertising and its necessity along with the type of advertising you would do and why
  • An outline of the audience you intend to reach and how to reach them. Be sure to take into account the factors that are in play when attempting to reach an audience that includes a wide range of ages (consider generational differences)
  • A plan for how to use your contacts and add new ones when publicizing and staying connected
  • A plan for each of four social media sites, including profile information and posting ideas
  • Analysis of any of the theories you would use
  • A conclusion

Your project lengths will depend on how much depth you put into your analysis of each section, but to give you a general idea, several paragraphs for most of the bullet points is a good length, and should result in a total of around 10 pages.
