Read “Topic 6: Vargas Family Case Study.” Develop three experiential interventions that you would use with the Vargas family.

It’s time to get creative! You have noticed that the Vargas family struggles with emotional expression, particularly with congruent emotional expression (i.e., words, actions, and body language being congruent). Using the Experiential Interventions Template, create three unique experiential interventions that you would use with the family and describe how they would be helpful to the family. It may be helpful to refer to the library articles for ideas and inspiration, but do not copy existing interventions. Be sure to fully address each section in the template for each of the three interventions in your paper:

  1. Title of your Intervention
  2. General Goals
  3. Materials Needed
  4. Advance Preparation Needed
  5. Description of the Intervention with the Vargas family
  6. Discussion of the Benefits of the Intervention to the Vargas Family
  7. References (if any)

You are to write a 5-7 page paper in APA format in which you discuss both the stability and the changes in your personality throughout your life to date.  Discuss this topic appealing to information from the text.

You are to write a 5-7 page paper in APA format in which you discuss both the stability and the changes in your personality throughout your life to date.  Discuss this topic appealing to information from the text.

You will need to skim through chapters 8 & 9 to be able to correctly write the paper and apply it to my life. I have given you some pointers below to reference as far as stability in my life and I will post the link and log in info to access my book.

Please touch on topics such as me moving out at 16 and being homeless, to living couch to couch, to dropping in and out of college, to having twins at 23, to obtaining my associates degree, going through a divorce and relocating to the point where I am now 30 and are more stable and will be obtaining my bachelors degree in Aug. Talk about how my personality and stability have changed over time with maturity and after having kids. But from 16 to about 23 I was not stable at all and not focused on school.  Touch base on for 9 years from 17 to 26 I waited tables and when I left there to do office administrative work I also had to gain some financial stability because I went from getting cash tips every night to getting paid bi weekly which helped me learn to budget my money. IT HAS TO SOUND AS IF IT IS COMING FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE BUT ALSO TAKE SOME INFORMATION FROM THE BOOK AND APPLY THAT TO THE PAPER AS WELL!

My research question is what are parent’s attitudes toward corporal punishment? To answer this question I would use a mixed method study.

Week 5 Discussion

Researchers who use mixed methods employ a research design that uses both quantitative and qualitative data to answer a particular question or a set of questions. This combination of methods “involve[s] the collection, analysis, and integration of quantitative and qualitative data in a single or multiphase study” (Hanson, Creswell, Plano Clark, Petska, & Creswell, 2005, p. 224).

My research question is what are parent’s attitudes toward corporal punishment? To answer this question I would use a mixed method study. A structured questionnaire would be administered to quantitatively measure the use of corporal punishment among parents. I would then use focus-group interviews and open-ended questionnaires to follow up with the parents to capture their perception on the various types of corporal punishments and what punishments they feel are too severe. The results of conducting both studies would sequentially contribute to the overall understanding of corporal punishment within this population. The structured questionnaire provided a statistical understanding of parent’s use of corporal punishment. The data was triangulated by the follow-up focus group. By doing this the results from the focus group should be consistent with the open-ended questionnaire.

By implementing a sequential explanatory design, this method is a two phase design where the quantitative data is collected first followed by qualitative data collection. This adds a value of understanding for both results. The purpose is to use the qualitative results to further explain and interpret the findings from the quantitative phase.  For example, a survey may be used to collect quantitative data from a larger group. Members of that group may then later be selected for interviews where they can explain and offer insights into their survey answers. The focus group data clarified definitions and uses of terms (Hesse-Biber, 2010). The dominant method for this study is qualitative. The ethical principles I would apply is informed consent for research and confidentiality.

Provide a brief concluding paragraph summarizing your thoughts on the film and how it relates to class (less than one page).

For this assignment, you will select and watch a film that is related to issues of development and developmental psychology. The film should focus on a particular period of development. Additionally, students will apply developmental theories to at least one character from the film.

Examples of potential films include: Look Who’s Talking or Three Men and a Baby (infancy), The Breakfast Club or Juno (adolescence), Failure to Launch (emerging adulthood), Grumpy Old Men or Tuesdays with Morrie (Late Adulthood) or any other film that is appropriate for this class.

This paper should be no less than 4 pages in length, excluding your title page and references page. The paper will be broken into three main sections:

· Part 1: Provide a brief synopsis of the movie in your own words (less than 1 page)

· Part 2: Apply the concepts and theories to the film. You must address the following:

o Explain what developmental theories can be applied to this movie and the main character

o Explain what other influences such as peers or family members in the film have on the main character

o Explain how context (e.g., culture, SES, neighborhood) influences the main
character

· Part 3: Provide a brief concluding paragraph summarizing your thoughts on the film and how it relates to class (less than one page).

General Paper Guidelines and Requirements:

· You must use AT LEAST ONE ADDITIONAL SOURCE (besides the textbook and film), and this must be a peer-reviewed journal article. The article you select must be recent (i.e., published within the last 10 years).

· You will be required to adhere to APA formatting including an appropriate title page. An abstract is not needed. You will need a reference page, which includes correct citations for the movie, your textbook, and any additional sources that you use.

· Correct grammar and punctuation are expected. Please refrain from using abbreviations or slang terms.
