PSY7610 Library Research Guide.

In Unit 2, you selected one standardized test that has relevancy to your academic and professional goal and focused on the first four elements of the Code for selecting a test. In Unit 5, you focused on the fifth element of the Code, which involved analyzing the evidence for technical quality of your selected test.

In Chapters 7 and 8 of your Psychological Testing and Assessment text, you have been learning about test utility, test development, item analysis, and using tests in a variety of settings and with a variety of test takers. In this assignment, you will apply those concepts to your selected test for the Code’s sixth, seventh, and eighth elements. The Code (2004) states that test users, “(6) evaluate representative samples of test questions or practice tests, directions, answer sheets, manuals, and score reports before selecting a test; (7) evaluate procedures and materials used by the test developers, as well as the resulting test, to ensure that potentially offensive content or language is avoided; and (8) select tests with appropriately modified forms or administration procedures for test takes with disabilities who need special accommodations.”

For this assignment, locate a minimum of five resources (a minimum three peer-reviewed journal articles) pertaining to your test’s construction, item development, procedures utilized in construction to minimize offensive content, and provisions of modifications and accommodations for test takers. You will not be required or need to have a copy of your test to complete this assignment. You may use many different types of references and sources to obtain this information about your test. These references may include journal articles, literature reviews, Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) reviews, reviews, and publisher Web sites.

Information gathering and evaluation of these elements may require a keyword search within each relevant review and research article. It may be helpful to do keyword searches within those documents with the following words: format, fair, fairness, bias, appropriate, accommodations, modifications, and computer or computer assisted. Subsequently, this particular assignment requires a deeper search and provides a broader range of sources to fulfill the minimum references. In almost all cases, you will be able to locate some level of information on these elements.

For some newer test editions, literature may be scarce. Refer back to the Lists of Tests by Type resource to see which tests are approved for supplementation with articles that address earlier editions of the tests. If the “Combined Review Allowed” column is marked “Yes,” you can supplement your review with articles addressing the designated prior version of the test.

Note: In future courses you may use the library’s Interlibrary Loan service to obtain articles outside of the collection, but you should not have to use the service for PSY7610. In the event that you cannot find articles covering a newer test edition, please refer to the List of Tests by Type in the Resources area. Note which tests have been designated as acceptable for searching prior test editions.

If you are struggling with locating sufficient information about a particular test in regard to an element in this assignment, then you will need to cite the references or reviews involved in your search and identify this element as problematic for your selected test as it lacks sufficient documentation in the literature for this code or standard.

Compose your findings into a paper using the following outline (please use these headings):

Title Page (required).

Abstract (optional).

Describe your experience(s) writing the cover letter including the ways in which you may have attempted to manipulate the reader to get the best response. Analyze and describe any ethical issues that could be associated with this process.

Prior to beginning work on this discussion, review the Cover Letters PDF  provided by the Ashford University Office of Career Services and the What Is a Cover Letter?  and Writing the Dreaded Cover Letter  online resources. It is recommended that you also review the e-book by Noble (2004) and the How to write cover letters (examples) video which include more information and a number of sample cover letters to assist you.

For this discussion post, you will use the knowledge you have gained about personality, the career specific reports you have created in the previous weeks’ discussions, and assessments associated with various fields of psychology you have studied to help you to choose and develop a cover letter for a job in the human services sector. To begin, determine what type of job within the human services sector related to personality psychology is of interest to you. Using career websites, including those listed on Job Search website, and/or other third-party search engines such as the American Psychological Association’s PsycCareers website, Monster.com , Indeed.com , and SimplyHired.com . Once you have found a suitable job posting, carefully review the requirements and note these for inclusion in your cover letter. Before you begin designing your cover letter, review the required readings, videos, and websites to help you determine how best to formulate it. Within the letter, you will address the person or title of the person that is listed as the contact for the job in the job posting. As you draft your cover letter, consider the elements within the job post and use your knowledge of personality theory to make yourself appear to be the best candidate for the job. Assess the various types of personality measurements that might be most effective in the position listed and mention how you might use these on the job. Once you have developed your letter, save it as a document and attach it to your discussion post. In the discussion post itself, copy and paste the link to the job posting for which you wrote your cover letter. Describe your experience(s) writing the cover letter including the ways in which you may have attempted to manipulate the reader to get the best response. Analyze and describe any ethical issues that could be associated with this process.

Explain from a comparative standpoint how coping strategies may differ between older and younger adults.

Normative (those that happen generally and are expected) and non-normative (those that are unexpected and unplanned) life events impact older adults and their abilities to cope in dealing with significant change in health or a loss of a spouse. One such event, the end of life, can be considered normative or non-normative depending on the circumstances. The end of life can present difficult issues for family members. It’s a matter of perspective. Some people view death as a natural part of life, but for others, it can be a very controversial issue. Each family member has his or her own view regarding how end-of-life issues should be dealt with, and sometimes society doesn’t agree with those views

  • Explain from a comparative standpoint how coping strategies may differ between older and younger adults. Research the coping strategies that older adults employ. How are these strategies used to deal with such stressors as the loss of a spouse or a significant change in health? Compare and contrast the coping strategies of older and younger adults.
  • Briefly describe the differences between hospice and death with dignity laws. Explain how these different perspectives on end-of-life issues might impact an end-of-life scenario. Consider the perspectives of the individual who is dying, as well as the various family members. Include the Kübler-Ross model in your explanation.

4.  Explain under what conditions they may not be acceptable and under what conditions, if any, they may be appropriate.

Each response to another must be at least 175 words in length.

If asked to post your opinion or reaction/reflection as part of an initial discussion post, you must still incorporate reference support. While opinions and reactions are personal and subjective in nature, they need references and citations for support. This approach reflects knowledge acquisition as well as application and synthesis of content. In other words, always support your work with resources. This is also applies to article reviews and/or reflection exercises…you still must have at least two references….one of which will always be your textbook.

(Peer response)

1.  Describe what these scores mean.

Internal consistency reliability coefficient of .92 means that excellent reliability and it is an acceptable test to give. Our textbook defines reliability as, “the proportion of the total variance attributed to true variance” (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018 p. 142). Without reliability tests lack consistency therefore they become less useful because they also lack validity (Drummond & Jones, 2006).Tests are considered reliability if they produce the same results each time the test is used. Alternate forms of reliability coefficient .82 means the test is still reliable because the score is considered high, however, the test is not as reliable as the test with the internal consistency reliability coefficient .92 (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018). Lastly, test-retest reliability coefficient .50 tests the average of the two scores of the test that were given and that is considered a low score.

2.  Synthesize all of these interpretations into a final evaluation about this test utility or usefulness & Synthesize all of these interpretations into a final evaluation about this test’s utility or usefulness.

The internal consistency reliability coefficient .92 means 92 % of the time this test produces accurate results, that leaves only a chance for error 8% of the time. The alternate forms reliability coefficient .82 means that 82% of the time this test produces accurate results, that score is still high enough for reliability however, not as high as the internal consistency reliability coefficient. Lastly, the test-retest reliability coefficient .50 means that 50% of the time this test produces accurate results, which is the least reliability of the 3 test types (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018). All and all, each of these tests would be useful however, in my field of Applied Behavior Analysis I find the test-retest score to be most interesting because I would like to see growth and this test is given in two separate parts. Test 1 and then later, Test 2, allowing to see improvement in the test participate. It sounds as thought test-retest is made to show growth, and that is what we shrive for in my field.

3.  Explain whether these data are acceptable

Internal consistency reliability coefficient .92 alternate forms reliability coefficient .82 is an extremely reliable data point, however. The test-retest .50 is less reliable (Cohen & Swerdlik, 2018).

4.  Explain under what conditions they may not be acceptable and under what conditions, if any, they may be appropriate.

Test-retest reliability coefficient may not always be the best test to use because it shows change over time and sometimes that is not what we need. Alternate forms reliability coefficient may not be appropriate sometimes because it becomes difficult to develop two equivalent tests to administer. Lastly, internal consistency reliability coefficient is only good in instances where the test is homogenous, if the test is not the data may not be acceptable (Drummond & Jones, 2006).
