Post an explanation of the role of theory in research. Next, identify a theory in your discipline and explain its basic tenets.

Popular usage of the word “theory” may sometimes imply a singular, often grand idea. The world, however, is complex, and the systems designed to understand it, such as theory, are often intricate in order to sufficiently explain the world as it is. Indeed, as you will learn this week, theory is nuanced, and it can also be viewed as a combination of variables, ideas, or constructs to test or advance a research question. In addition, theory tends to play a different role in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research.

For this Discussion, you will consider the role of theory in research and the relationship between theory and philosophical orientations. You will also familiarize yourself with a theory in your field so that you may become more conversant in your discipline’s theoretical foundations.

Post an explanation of the role of theory in research. Next, identify a theory in your discipline and explain its basic tenets. Then, with this theory in mind, consider your answer to the following question posed by Dr. Burkholder in last week’s reading: “What do I have to believe about the world and about human beings in order for me to accept or use this theory?” Finally, describe the extent to which the epistemological and ontological assumptions of your chosen theory align with the philosophical orientation that reflects your worldview.

Be sure to support your Main Issue Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

For the purposes of this Discussion, imagine that you are a teacher. As you review the Learning Resources in preparation for this Discussion, think of the diversity of children with whom you are working, the various factors that influence a child’s motivation to learn, and the ways teachers might enhance motivation in children with diverse needs. With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 3:

Post your response to the following questions:

• How can you foster children’s intrinsic motivation? How and to what extent should you provide extrinsic motivation for the children with whom you work?
• How might you go about working with an unmotivated child?
• How might the different approaches to motivation (behavioral, humanistic, cognitive, sociocultural) guide your strategies and interactions?
• How can you promote positive beliefs and self-schemas?

Post how a social work administrator’s personal leadership philosophy and style may influence a human services organization’s culture.

Discussion 1: Organizational Culture and Client Treatment

After reading the assigned resources about leadership types and skills, as well as information about attending to tasks and relationships, you may be starting to develop ideas about how an administrator’s leadership style and philosophy can either facilitate or limit social change efforts. The way in which social work administrators interact with diverse stakeholders such as clients, staff, board members, and community members, contributes to a model of service delivery that emphasizes quality and effectiveness.

By Day 3

Post how a social work administrator’s personal leadership philosophy and style may influence a human services organization’s culture. Also, explain how the organization’s culture might influence a social work administrator’s personal leadership style. Finally, explain how interactions with stakeholders may ultimately impact the organization’s treatment of clients. Be sure to provide specific examples in your explanations.
