Analyze how a clinician may use this test as a tool for promoting meaningful interventions in treatment. Summarize what you have learned about yourself through this exercise.

Over the years, trait theory has been increasingly used by corporations in hiring and in career counseling. Research has shown that certain combinations of personality traits fit well with different career paths. Thus, personality trait tests for specific jobs can be predictive of both success and satisfaction. Understanding your own personality-trait combinations can give you great insight into your own strengths and weaknesses. With this understanding, you can work to grow your strengths and minimize your weaknesses.

In this assignment, you will explore your personality using a personality test and then analyze the results.

Part 1

First, explore your personality preferences by completing Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MTBI). The full version of the test can only be administered by a trained professional; however, there are many online informal versions of the test which you can find on the Internet. You can search for the test using any one of the following keywords:

  • Personality test + Myers-Briggs typology
  • Myers-Briggs test

Record your four-lettered personality type after completion of the test and use the Internet to interpret your personality type.

Part 2

In this part of the assignment, you will write a research paper that analyses your results. Do the following:

  • Mention your four-letter type and the URL of the Web site where you took the test.
  • Discuss whether this type accurately represents what you know about yourself. Examine the four spectrums and explain your answer thoroughly. Substantiate your agreement or disagreement with real-life behavioral examples.
  • Analyze what you consider the strengths and the weaknesses or challenges of this type. List three strengths and three weaknesses and provide a rationale for each.
  • Evaluate why this test could be a valuable tool for an employer.
  • Analyze how a clinician may use this test as a tool for promoting meaningful interventions in treatment.
  • Summarize what you have learned about yourself through this exercise.

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M4_A2.doc.

Research professional organizations, including professional membership benefits, activities, services to members, and current issues.

In previous decades, counselors and other individuals who provided therapy were unregulated—meaning there were no laws requiring specialized training for counselors. Then, in 1981, the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) and the American Personnel and Guidance Association (a precursor to the ACA) cooperatively established the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) in order to set standards for counselor training.

Review the CACREP Understanding Accreditation: Types of Accreditation Web page, NBCC’s Web page on board certification versus licensure for clinical mental health counselors, and Kaplan and Kraus’s article, “Building Blocks to Portability: Culmination of the 20/20 Initiative.”

In your post, answer the following questions:

  • What advantages will you experience by graduating from a CACREP-approved program?
  • Would it be advantageous for you to pursue becoming a National Certified Counselor through the NBCC, in addition to obtaining your state-granted license? Why or why not?
  • Is license portability an issue that may be important to you in the future? Explain your answer.

Support your ideas by citing key sources from this unit, using APA style.

Response Guidelines

Respond to a learner who has a different view than you regarding the advantages of counselor certification or the importance of license portability.

Learning Components

This activity will help you achieve the following learning components:

  • Research professional organizations, including professional membership benefits, activities, services to members, and current issues.
  • Use the Internet to identify professional organizations relevant to the practice of mental health counseling in a specialty area.

Review Chapter 6 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay particular attention to when and where surveys are used in forensic research and the importance of representative sampling.

The accuracy of the results of research data is partially dependant on the sample that was used in the research study. How large the sample, its specific characteristics, and how it was selected, all play a significant role in how “good” the research results will be. Without appropriate sample size, characteristics, and selection, the results will be less than optimal. To this point, forensic psychology professionals often use existing databases from which to draw the data for their research; that is, they obtain their sample from these data bases. The problem with doing this is that the researcher does not have input into the sample represented in the data, such as how and from whom it was collected.

To prepare for this assignment:

  • Review Chapter 6 in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay particular attention to when and where surveys are used in forensic research and the importance of representative sampling.
  • Review the selected pages of Appendix B in your course text, Research Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. Pay close attention to the role of sample size in applying results to the general population.
  • Using the Walden Library, select a forensic psychology research article that interests you. As you review it, focus on the section(s) discussing methods and results.
  • Consider how the sample size, sample characteristics, and means of sample selection influenced the results of the study.

The assignment (1–3 pages):

  • Briefly summarize the forensic psychology research article you selected, including the sections on methods and results, paying particular attention to sample size, characteristics, and means of selection.
  • Explain how the sample size, sample characteristics, and sample selection influenced the results of the study and why.

explain how your commitment might impact your future work as a human and social services professional. Be specific, and provide examples to illustrate your points.

How do you feel about becoming a social change agent, leader, and advocate? What areas of interest do you have that are related to bringing about a society committed to the mental health and welfare of its members? How might you inspire current and future students and colleagues so that they relate to and become engaged in doing something to bring about this vision? How do you plan to remain a competent human services professional?

Human services professionals are committed to understanding and addressing professional and societal issues. As you continue on your journey as a human services professional, it is your responsibility to constantly engage in professional development. This engagement might include continuing education courses, conferences, graduate degrees, certifications, and research, to name a few.

To prepare:

  • Identify at least three personal and/or professional commitments that you are willing to make as a result of your understanding      of the need for social change, leadership, and advocacy.
  • Consider steps you might take in your professional      development to become a more effective social change agent, leader, and      advocate.
  • Consider how your new understanding might impact your      future work as a human and social services professional.

With these thoughts in mind:

By Day 4

Post a brief description of at least three personal and/or professional commitments you selected. Explain how your understanding of social change, leadership, and advocacy has impacted your commitments and your willingness to make them. Explain the next steps you might take in your professional development to become a more effective social change agent, leader, and advocate. Then, explain how your commitment might impact your future work as a human and social services professional. Be specific, and provide examples to illustrate your points.
