Week 6 Discussion Thread

Discussion: MEAL Plan
In the Discussions over the past 5 weeks, youve built an argument. Step-by-step, youve identified evidence to support a main idea statement and youve shown how that evidence proves the point. Now, its time to fine tune. Where can your language be more precise? Where can it be clearer? Where do you need to provide or double-check a citation that youre not quite sure about?

Additionally, to remember this process and the skills youve built, think about what resources and strategies have helped you along the way. Spend a little time perusing your Feedback Journal and any links youve saved for yourself. Whats been most helpful? Share what youve learned (and where you learned it!) with other writers so they can add resources to their writing toolkit.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Explore the links youve saved in your Feedback Journal, bookmarking the ones you found most helpful for yourself.
Create a list for yourself and your classmates of the most helpful resources and strategies you found this term.
By Day 4
Post your final revised paragraph responding to the research article, ensuring that your paragraph is a complete academic argument with all MEAL plan elements. Additionally, share at least one specific resource or strategy that has helped you revise and explain how it helped.

By Day 6
Respond to at least two colleagues by doing one of the following:

Identify effective elements in their paragraph
Share insights on revising an argument-based paragraph
Add your thoughts on the identified resource or strategy
Note: Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Picot question in nursing Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation

To Prepare:

Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.
Develop a PICO(T) question to address the clinical issue of interest you identified in Module 2 for the Assignment. This PICOT question will remain the same for the entire course.
Use the key words from the PICO(T) question you developed and search at least four different databases in the Walden Library. Identify at least four relevant systematic reviews or other filtered high-level evidence, which includes meta-analyses, critically-appraised topics (evidence syntheses), critically-appraised individual articles (article synopses). The evidence will not necessarily address all the elements of your PICO(T) question, so select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available.
Reflect on the process of creating a PICO(T) question and searching for peer-reviewed research.
The Assignment (Evidence-Based Project)

Part 2: Advanced Levels of Clinical Inquiry and Systematic Reviews

Create a 6- to 7-slide PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.
Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.
Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.
Provide APA citations of the four relevant peer-reviewed articles at the systematic-reviews level related to your research question. If there are no systematic review level articles or meta-analysis on your topic, then use the highest level of evidence peer reviewed article.
Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research. Be specific and provide examples.

Identify and briefly describe your chosen clinical issue of interest.

What is your topic? Why is it important to nursing practice?

Describe how you developed a PICO(T) question focused on your chosen clinical issue of interest.

What is the PICOT question? How was it developed? What information from the literature supports the need to answer the question? Why is this the best question to address the issue you’ve identified?

Identify the four research databases that you used to conduct your search for the peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Summarize each article. Synthesize the information. What are common themes? What are some major differences in their findings?

Provide APA citations of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected.

Be sure to use proper in text citations and cite correctly on the reference page.

Describe the levels of evidence in each of the four peer-reviewed articles you selected, including an explanation of the strengths of using systematic reviews for clinical research.

In your summaries, include this information. Where did the study fall in the hierarchy of evidence? What were the identified strengths and limitations of the study? What are the strengths of using systematic reviews?

Be specific and provide examples.

This is important! Be sure to elaborate, add examples and details to support your assertions. Pretend the reader (me) is unfamiliar with  your topic. The examples are what helps the reader understand what you are trying to say.
