Imagine that you work as a volunteer for the local community animal shelter called ABC Animal Rescue. You have volunteered for approximately four years. The Board of Directors has asked you to meet with a group of 25 volunteers and the local community during a fundraising event. The Board requested that you mingle with the volunteers, many of which you already know, and the local community members.

The purpose of your mingling is to build relationships and trust between the organization (ABC Animal Rescue) and the community/volunteers. You agree because you are passionate about this cause.

Using the results of the “New Drivers of Leadership” self-assessment, and the 10 traits from the Jones (2015) article “What Employees Want in a Leader,” describe how you would approach the community and volunteers to build relationships and trust.

Educational barriers.

DIRECTIONS:
For our first unit of this course, we will be discussing educational barriers. We will talk more about what I mean when I say “educational barrier” later on in the week as well as next week, but for now, I want us to consider the purpose of education, and to do so, I want us to read Martin Luther King Jr.’s estimable text by the same name.

STEP 1:
Carefully read through “The Purpose of Education” by Martin Luther King Jr. Read it slowly! Read it twice! Annotate it! If you need a refresher on annotating your work, you can review the materials I’ve supplied here: English 020 Connection: Reading Strategies.

To help our understanding of the material, I have provided below some helpful notes.

bull session: noun, an informal, spontaneous discussion, usually pertaining to close-door politics.

This expression originally referred to an exchange of opinions and anecdotes, including stories of sexual prowess, by men, and then came to be used more broadly. [Slang; c. 1915]
Eugene Talmadge: (1884-1946) American politician who served as the governor of Georgia for three terms, elected to four. He was also involved heavily in the politics regarding the University of Georgia. Talmadge presented himself as an aggressive defender of white supremacy, arguing keeping Black people disfranchised and segregated was far more important than education. At one campaign rally, Talmadge stated: “We in the South love the Negro in his place-but his place is at the back door” (Anderson). King is responding to Talmadge’s insidious, racist remarks and ideology when he address him in this text.
Morehouse College: A historical black men’s college or HBCU in Atlanta, Georgia which played a key role in the American Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King is among the list of its vary storied alumni.

Meaningful Use for Nurses Paper

You will select (2) Core objectives to enable EHRs to support healthcare from Stage 1. You will select (2) Menu objectives that provide flexibility for providers to choose from Stage 1 or Stage 2.

A. Introduction and overview of the Meaningful Use Program – provide an overview of the Meaningful Use Program. Describe its significance to advanced practice registered nursing and the impact it has on the nursing profession.

What are the relationships between EMR, EHR, and ePHR to clinical information systems?
What is the significance to the nursing profession, especially to the PCP?
B. Discussion and analysis of the Meaningful Use Program (MUP) – describe and analyze the goals and objectives of meaningful use as well as its implications for nurses, nursing, national health policy, patient outcomes, and population health associated with the collection and use of meaningful use core criteria.

Review the goals and objectives and discuss them. Is this something you see or deal with in your workplace?
Discuss the implications is the program effective? Is it affordable? Does it work? Does it really improve quality and efficiency of care?
What are the strengths and weaknesses of MUP?
Support your ideas with evidence-based practice.
C. Core Requirements of the Meaningful Use Program – analyze how the core requirements are beneficial for advanced nurses, nursing, monitoring population health, setting national health policies, and/or improvements in patient outcomes or population health.

Patients discuss impact of MUP on the use of patient reminders, ePrescribing, electronic access, etc.
Providers does MUP assist providers in making more informed decisions, deliver better care, and create greater efficiencies?
Nursing does MUP help to prevent duplicative testing, eliminate adverse drug reactions, and enhance provider collaboration?
Population health does MUP encourage providers to send data to immunization registries and public health agencies?
D. Challenges and recommendations – discuss current challenges with meaningful use seen in practice today and provide recommendations using evidence-based rationale.
