When Shelly saw Ms. Jones in a wheelchair, she felt sorry for her. She said a little prayer of thanks that she could walk and move freely without any hindrance. However, feeling badly for a person and actually sitting in the wheelchair for another vantage point is very different.

a sustinable development initiative (Anthropology essay)

Essay topic

Sustainability in development discourse refers to long term resilience in terms not only of the environment but also of socio-political structures, economic livelihoods and modes of sxchange, and cultural identity. Its scope may be interlocal, interspecies, intercultural, and intergenerational. It aspires to the improvement in ecological health and the reduction and elimination of those structural constraints that impede such improvements.

Examine a particular development initiative inspired and/or driven by either internal or external socio-political sources that aspires to such sustainability goals. Such a development initiative could be in the Global South or among marginalized peoples of the Global North. Examine the roles various agents play in pursuing this initiative, their methods and approaches and the ways in which various sections of the community engage with the development. Finally appraise the sustainability prospects of the initiative.

In your essay make sure you clearly identify a title and theme for your essay and build a structure of argument through the essay, by clearly noting the progress in the argument and providing evidence to illustrate and support your argument. While it is important to review the arguments of the ethnographer it is also important for you to develop your own argument .

An essay should construct an argument that is clearly presented in the introduction and concluded at the end of the essay. In anthropology evidence is mainly constituted from ethnographic examples, that is, detailed observations of the statements and practices of people in their daily lives and social institutions. It is important that you establish your argument by referring to such evidence. Essay research should include reference to material outside the set readings, although these tutorial readings may be included. A total of six references is a minimum number of writings that should be included in your essays.

Essays are graded by allocating 40% to argument, 40% to evidence and 20% to writing style. Style includes the way you use the language, set out paragraphs, and cite and list references.
