analysis of the Lafarge-Aget Heracles case

Use Exhibits H and I, estimate and evaluate ratios for liquidity, financial strength, profitability, and ROI (include DuPont analysis)
For 2008, Aget is contemplating adding two new dry-process kilns for an investment of 10.7 million .  That investment is expected to increase current capacity by 18%.
Assuming the most current operational cost levels, what sales must it generate to recoup the above investment?
If we assume 2004 prices of 45.91 /mt, what does the new break-even level do to the utilization rate, given its new capacity level? What can you say about its effect upon Agets pricing?
It is expected that the dry-process technology will help achieve an increase of 22% in production cost efficiencies, compared to current level. How might such an increase affect price competitiveness?
Assuming that Agets sales by 2008 will have grown at the forecasted global market rate increase of 22.6% over those of 2004, what will be its production and utilization rate?
If Aget does capture 20% market share in the markets of Lebanon, Kuwait and UAE, as estimated, at what sales units and revenues, will it break-even?  What is the B/E market share?
In case Aget reduced price by 10%:
What effect would such price reduction have on gross margin?
By how much must sales increase to avoid a loss in gross profit?
What can you say about the potential implications of such price reductions, upon the industry and the market?
Based on your analysis, is Agets contemplated expansion into Lebanon, Kuwait, and UAE advisable or inadvisable?  Argue your position.

A newer area in healthy people 2020 includes the social determinants of health. This area focuses on a multidimensional aspect of health care that continuously assesses and mobilizes people to improve overall population health. Social determinants include access to resources, safety, support, culture, literacy, socioeconomic status, violence, and many others. Physical determinants include housing, surrounding neighborhood, and potential pollutants in the area. Overall this area of Healthy People 2020 focuses on the whole person and the importance of understanding each individual patients situation is unique. Culture plays a large aspect to the social determinants of health as each persons culture is influenced by their social determinants of health. As a future advanced practice nurse this is an essential area that will be critical in my care for patients. Understanding each patients unique determinants will allow me to adapt the care for the patient to accommodate and adapt to the accessibility of resources they have. The importance of understanding what each person has available to them and the culture that affects their decision making could change the plan of care for the patient as a provider (Social, 2020).
Patients that have less accessibility to parks, gyms, or neighborhood sidewalks can change how I would approach exercise discussions with patients. Dietary education would need to be adapted as well in regards to availability of healthy food options, along with culture considerations of foods cooked in the home. As a provider we cannot determine what our patients will do with the education we provide them however we are obliged to consider all dynamics in our patients lives and give them the resources to help them and provide high quality patient centered care.

Nutrition and weight status are listed as topics of interest on the document Healthy People 2020 (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion [ODPHP], 2020).  There is much scientific data supporting the intake of good nutrition and the maintenance of a healthy weight, and in addition to learning about food and drink choices that increase health, we must examine cultural considerations that include physical and social determinants surrounding an individuals nutrition and weight status.
Physical determinants of food choices are related to availability of foods and an individuals ability to purchase what they need in order to maintain a healthy body and mind.  Retail markets that sell healthy food may be less accessible in rural communities and for those with a lower-income bracket (ODPHP, 2020).  Options around that scenario include personal or community gardening, getting fresh eggs from a community member who raises chicks, and buying fresh produce from roadside stands or from a local farmers market.
In addition to physical determinants of food choices, there are social factors that influence choices of foods and degree of healthiness of the foods.  These include:  attitudes about certain foods, stigma surrounding that ones food choices that may cause judgment from others, price of foods, knowledge and skills about what is healthy and how to prepare a meal, and cultural norms that exist in the individuals home, social circle and community.  If an individual is participating in a food assistance program, that will also determine their food choices as they get foods that are covered by the program.
Healthy eating, healthy lifestyle, regular physical activity and balancing intake with calories burned, are vital keys to maintaining a healthy weight status.  The American Academy of Pediatrics (American Academy of Pediatrics [AAP], 2018) supports healthy family-based lifestyle modifications to help facilitate optimal nutrition and weight status.  These include preparing meals at home as a family, parents/caregivers modeling healthy choices and behavior, providing accessibility of healthy foods and drinks, participating in physical activity on a regular basis, and avoiding too much time spent on sedentary activities.
APRNs play a role in affecting culturally-based patient care by using evidence-based practices in the following ways:  reinforcing healthy eating within the patients food preferences and belief system, physical activity that supports a healthy life withing the patients cultural preferences, discouraging skipping meals and diet pills, reinforcing the value of having meals as a family where possible, reinforcing positive discussions related to body weight, and monitoring weight loss (AAP, 2018).  APRNs address cultural and spiritual considerations when they provide focused attention to their patient preferences and ask what they can do to support their patients healthy nutrition and weight status.
