Leading a 10 person team

Discussion
Before beginning work on this discussion forum, please review the link Doing Discussion Questions Right, the expanded grading rubric for the forum, and any specific instructions for this topic.
You have been asked to lead a ten-person team within your department. You know that several of these team members have not worked well together on previous group projects, so you have decided to put the team through a series of team-building activities.
Select any one of the following starter bullet point sections. Review the important themes within the sub questions of each bullet point. The sub questions are designed to get you thinking about some of the important issues. Your response should provide a succinct synthesis of the key themes in a way that articulates a clear point, position, or conclusion supported by research. Select a different bullet point section than what your classmates have already posted so that we can engage several discussions on relevant topics. If all of the bullet points have been addressed, then you may begin to re-use the bullet points with the expectation that varied responses continue.

Define your top three goals or objectives for the team-building activities for the scenario. Defend why those goals are appropriate. Also assess at least two other possible goals and justify why they did not make your top-three list.
Select two articles that discuss whether team-building activities really help. Briefly note what you learned from the articles. Did they guide you to select the best activities, or did they warn you away from certain activities? Justify three best practices for team building activities that emerge from the articles.
Team dynamics include both productivity (task) and cohesiveness (relationship) components. Identify three team building activities and assess the extent each influences on productivity and cohesion. Evaluate how cohesion and productivity are linked.
The final paragraph (three or four sentences) of your initial post should summarize the one or two key points that you are making in your initial response.
Your posting should be the equivalent of 1 to 2 single-spaced pages (5001000 words) in length.
Submission Details:
Submit your posting to the Discussion Area by the due date assigned.
Follow-up posts need to be completed by the end of the week.
Submit your response in the Discussion Area, using the lessons and vocabulary found in the reading.

Key skills that students of history must develop

Explore key skills that students of history must develop:
source evaluation, perspective-taking, and historical empathy. In the unit 5 discussion, we will continue our
work on historical thinking skills by combining these three as we explore the nature of political partisanship in
the early republic.
Task
For this discussion, you will adopt the perspective of two competing parties–the Federalists and the
Democratic-Republicans–on the question of Alexander Hamilton’s Financial Plan. In your initial posting, you
will adopt the perspective of either the Federalists or the Democratic-Republicans and explain why……. they
either supported or opposed Hamilton’s proposal.
For Part 1, you must write at least one paragraph describing and explaining the three components of
Hamilton’s Financial Plan. What were the three elements Hamilton outlined? What was their purpose? Why did
Hamilton think they were essential to the survival of the republic?
For Part 2, you will be assigned either the Federalist or Democratic-Republican perspective on Hamilton’s
proposed changes. As we have seen in our readings, not everyone agreed with Hamilton on the necessity of
the economic changes proposed in his Financial Plan. For the purposes of this part, we will divide the class
roughly in half.
Students whose last names begin with A – L will write part 2 from a Federalist perspective. Why did the
Federalists support the Financial Plan?
Students whose last names begin with M – Z will write part 2 from a Democratic-Republican perspective. Why
did the Democratic-Republicans oppose Hamilton’s Financial Plan?
Each of these paragraphs should be at least 6-7 sentences in length.
Please include both Part 1 and Part 2 in the same posting (do not create separate postings for each). You can
create a Word document for the assignment and upload it to the discussion board as an attachment, or you
can just post both parts directly onto the discussion board by clicking on “Start a New Thread” and typing in the
box. Please make sure that you carefully proof your answer for any typos and other writing issues.

Learning Management Systems

OVERVIEW

The readings provide you with an excellent introduction to the functionality and capabilities of a Learning Management Systems (LMS). You should glean from the readings how an LMS can be used to manage educational processes. By examining the Blackboard and Moodle websites, you should get a deeper understanding of the range and depth of what an LMS can do for your school or organization.

ASSIGNMENT

Read the Clement-Okooboh (2012) and Kwan (2012) articles and summarize and explain how an LMS can be used to support educational processes. Both articles provide good background in this area. (Kwan (2012) uses the Commonwealth of Learning e-Learning for International Organizations (COLeLIO) as an illustrative example of using a LMS.)

Go to Blackboard (http://www.blackboard.com/) and Moodle (http://moodle.com/) websites. Explore and examine the sites and determine the capabilities of the LMS product that they offer. Each site offers an LMS solution for a variety of audiences and markets (K-12, Higher Educations, Corporate etc.). You will have to be able to compare and contrast the LMSs from both companies.

Put yourself in the role of an educator who has to recommend the purchase of an LMS for your organization. You have narrowed your choices to the final two vendors Blackboard and Moodle. You must prepare an executive briefing essay of 4 pages to the top administrators of your school or organization. You must recommend the selection of one of the two LMSs offered by Blackboard or Moodle.

Include a matrix (table) in your essay that shows a comparison of the two LMS products. You may determine which criteria you wish for the comparison. This matrix should appear as either a table or an appendix (in APA format).
In your executive briefing essay you must:

Explain how to manage educational processes within a technology-based environment.

Compare and contrast the features and functions of various Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Describe how the selected LMS is appropriate for your intended audience.
