Case Study 2.1, p. 40. Answer the following questions:

Part I. You may serve as the subject for this case study or recruit a subject and complete the following steps.

Provide a brief description of the subject of this case (gender, age, occupation, and other relevant characteristics).
Calculate your subject’s BMI (or use Table I in Appendix A 3rd Edition Summerfield text) and measure waist circumference. Use Table 2-2 to estimate the health risk associated with the waist circumference and BMI.
For a person of your subject’s gender and height, compare the recommended weight from 1959 and 1983 Metropolitan height/weight tables in Appendix A of your text.
Comment on any apparent contradiction between recommended weight from height/weight tables and BMI health risk category.
Part II. Continue this case study with the same subject from Part I. You or your subject should keep an activity record using the form in Table 2 of Appendix B. Following the directions to keep track of daily activity and calculate caloric expenditure. Perform the calculations required to determine the caloric value of 0.9-9 METs. If your subject has a fitness tracker, have them weight it while awake and exercising, trying to keep track of steps/calories burned.

What kind of difficulties did you or your subject have using the physical activity record?
How might some these difficulties be overcome with clients?
What surprised you about the estimated daily caloric expenditure?
If it was higher than you thought it should be, to what do you attribute this?
If your subject wore a pedometer and attempted to determine activity intensity, how did it compare with estimated energy expenditure on the physical activity record?
