What activities most contributed to your enhanced knowledge base?

In my welcome letter to you, I indicated that every class should change your thinking about the focus of the class. Again read the provided ” A Walk Through The Steps of a Nursing Research Study”.  This is the same document you were provided during Week 1. Has your ability to read with understanding changed? Briefly share your thoughts regarding this experience. In this discussion forum  from a “qualitative approach” briefly reflect on what you have learned about nursing research, evidence based nursing and its impact on you as a professional nurse earning a baccalaureate degree in nursing.  From a “quantitative approach”, reflect on your response to the scale of your reading and understanding of nursing research you identified in week 1. How has it changed? What activities most contributed to your enhanced knowledge base?

Additionally, I would like you to discuss your preparedness to respond to the Institute of Medicine’s mandate that “Participants have set a goal that, by the year 2020, 90 percent of clinical decisions will be supported by accurate, timely, and up-to-date clinical information, and will reflect the best available evidence* (IOM, 2007).   What strategies can you personally implement to address this mandate on a personal/professional level beyond obtaining your baccalaureate degree in nursing? What is the state of your employing institution (no need to name your institution-just identify if it is an acute care setting, long term setting etc) in addressing this mandate since it was initiated in 2007 and with only 1 year left?  Will your employing institution meet the mandate? Initiate a discussion regarding this mandate with a managerial/administrative/ person in your employing institution to gain their perspective on evidence based practice. Here is a website that you can select to review to gain information on this directive. If possible, informally ask some of your nursing colleagues if they are aware of the mandate. What challenges do you foresee to the implementation of evidence-based nursing practice in your workplace?

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK52821/

Lastly, discuss how you would identify the “best available evidence” and what is the  significance of “Level of Evidence” as it relates to evidence that informs your nursing practice.

It is expected in this forum that you use/implement the appropriate nursing research terminology. Hint: consider your words like research, prove etc.

Also my initial respond about level of understanding of  article”A Walk Through The Steps of a Nursing Research Study-“from week 1 was:

“I read the document ” A Walk Through The Steps of a Nursing Research Study”, my comfort level in reading and understanding this document was satisfying me since I got all explanation very organized and well formated that made it easy to read and get the idea.My knowledge base of nursing and all types of researches was my effective tool to understand most of the document. From quantitative approach I can rate my comfort level 8 out of 10, which I am still happy to this level of understanding.”

Now by the end of this course is expected that my level of understanding increased, so you know how to answer this question compare to my initial post from first week.

What planning needs to be done to ensure the cultural and emotional safety of the client?

Submit an evidence-based practice paper about cultural competency in mental health nursing. An evidence-based practice paper allows you to explore best practice and help improve client outcomes on a psychiatric unit. Your paper should describe how you, as a nurse, will include – or have included – cultural awareness in a client diagnosed with a mental illness. The person you describe could be someone in your clinical setting, someone you have worked with in the past, or a theoretical client.

Remember that culture can also include gender equality, sexual orientation, and other cultures besides race and religion – including cultures unique to one particular family. Your paper should be at least 3 pages (double-spaced, not including the title or reference pages) in APA Format and include:

  • Assessment: Discuss what you would assess in regard to a client’s culture. For example, are there specific dietary requirements? Are schedule changes necessary to avoid conflicts with religious practices? Who is the spokesperson for the family? What would you assess?
  • Diagnosis: List any mental health nursing diagnoses this person has or may be at risk for. Include at least one cultural diagnosis.
  • Planning: What planning needs to be done to ensure the cultural and emotional safety of the client?
  • Implementation: What are interventions that would ensure the safety of your client in regard to culture? Include at least two interventions. For example, if your client has religious beliefs that affect the ability to take medications, what interventions would you create to ensure the client’s safety? What can you do to make sure the client’s cultural needs are met?
  • Evaluation: How will you evaluate whether your implementation was effective? Make sure the parameters are objective and measurable.
  • In your summary, discuss whether any completed interventions were successful. What could be done differently in the future? If the interventions have not yet been carried out, you might discuss some institutional changes that could be made to ensure cultural safety for all clients in that setting.

Your paper should utilize proper APA guidelines and include at least three scholarly sources to support your paper. A scholarly source is a source that has been peer reviewed and has appropriate authors that are credentialed.

After hearing that a neighbor’s child, Jeremy, age seven, was sexually assaulted in the local park,

After hearing that a neighbor’s child, Jeremy, age seven, was sexually assaulted in the local park, the parents of Cherry Hill township decide that their community needs a program to prevent sexual abuse of their children in the future.

1.      Prepare a presentation for the parents, providing pertinent information they might like to include in a Sexual Assault Prevention program aimed at the children in their community.

2.      Suggest the psycho educational and supportive approaches that can be effectively used at the community level, such as in community centers, schools, and social service agencies, to provide this information to the children.

3.      Address issues of gender, diversity, and ethics in your presentation.

Submit your PowerPoint presentation to the W2: Assignment 2 Drop box. Your response should be at least 5 – 6 slides and include speaker notes for each slide. In addition, make sure you have included a title slide and a reference slide.

The types of issues and concerns that children, and adolescents, present to social workers are as varied as the people themselves

The types of issues and concerns that children, and adolescents, present to social workers are as varied as the people themselves. Understanding how individuals behave in their particular environment will shed some light on their current challenges, but this alone is not enough. Social workers must know how to ask the right questions, as the answers will inform decisions about which resources may be most helpful.

For this Discussion, think about the connections between social work and human behavior and consider why it is relevant to social work practice.

Post an explanation of why studying human behavior and the social environment (HBSE) is relevant for social workers.
In your analysis, explain how HBSE is unique from other social and behavioral sciences.
Please use the Learning Resources to support your answer.

[removed]Discussion 2: Cultural Beings

Who are you? At first glance, this may seem like a rather simple question. You may identify yourself, as we often do, at the micro level by citing easily identifiable characteristics such as gender, race, or family relationships. While these characteristics describe you, they are only a small part of who you are as a cultural being.  The mezzo and macro levels define your multiple identities from a community and global context. Understanding your identity at the mezzo level provides a deeper understanding of the social construction of culture.  The mezzo level defines your identity through the interpersonal exchanges in the workplace, your school, and in other everyday activities.  Your perceived identity is incorporated into group standards and expectations. Navigating between the micro and mezzo levels can often affirm your own personally constructed identity or it can highlight contradictions between who you believe you are and how others define you. As you work through the Discussion, reflect on your identity from both the micro and mezzo levels. Are there any contradictions between the two levels? Consider how your identity as a cultural being may impact your work as a social worker. For this Discussion, you will explain how the social construction of race, ethnicity, gender, and other multicultural characteristics contribute to your essence as a cultural being.

Post an analysis of what you posted for your video introduction and explain the root of what you described as your culture. The video questions was as follows:

  • Your geographic location- Valdosta GA

  • Thoughts about your expectations and anticipated challenges for this course

  • A description of an aspect of your African American culture that you consider a defining part of your identity.

  • Your reasons for selecting the aspect of your culture in particular. Describe your identity as a cultural being.

Then explain how the social construction of race, ethnicity, gender, and other multicultural characteristics impact your identity as a cultural being.

Explain how your own definition as a cultural being is or is not consistent with the norms, categories, and constructs prescribed to your culture by social institutions.

Finally, explain how an understanding of the social construction of culture is applicable to the work you will do in social work practice.
