Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your results and include a copy and paste of the appropriate visual display of the data into your document.

In this week’s Discussion, you determined the benefits of visually displaying your data. You also learned that different types of data require different visual displays to adequately “tell the story” of the phenomena. Although the Discussion was difficult, what is even more difficult and challenging will be deciding on how best to display the data for presentation purposes. As you move further along in your dissertation or doctoral study, you will find that displaying data will be critical component in presenting a robust and clear capstone project.

For this Introduction to Quantitative Analysis Assignment, you will explore how to visually display data for optimal use.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review      this week’s Learning Resources and consider visual displays of data.
  • For      additional support, review the Skill      Builder: Unit of Analysis and the Skill Builder: Levels of Measurement,      which you can find by navigating back to your Blackboard Course Home Page.      From there, locate the Skill Builder link in the left navigation pane.
  • Using the      SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School      Longitudinal Study dataset (whichever you choose) found in this week’s      Learning Resources.
  • From the      dataset you chose, choose one categorical and one continuous variable and      perform the appropriate visual display for each variable.
  • Once you      visually display each variable, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to      understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document.

For this Assignment:

Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your results and include a copy and paste of the appropriate visual display of the data into your document.

Based on the results of your data, provide a brief explanation of what the implications for social change might be.

Use appropriate APA format. Refer to the APA manual for appropriate citation.

Which of Delle’s personal values or beliefs were challenged by his internalizations about his own illness and help-seeking?

The threat of public stigma, as well as self-stigma, can prevent individuals from receiving the mental health treatment they need. In this Assignment, you analyze the influence of stigma on experiences with and treatment of mental illness.

Watch the TED Talk by Sangu Delle and then review the readings for this week. Focus on Delle’s examples illustrating Corrigan’s model about the stages of stigma and the hierarchy of disclosure. Consider Delle’s experience against that model.

Required Readings:

Assignment

Submit a 3-page paper that addresses the following:

· Briefly explain Corrigan’s model of the stages of stigma and his recommendations and hierarchy about recovery.

· Explain whether Delle’s experience follows that model. Use specific examples to argue your perspective. If you agree, identify which stage of recovery Delle is in.

· Analyze Delle’s reports about his own experiences with both types of stigma. Provide specific examples, and in your analysis consider the following questions:

o Does one type of stigma predominate in his talk?

o Which of Delle’s personal values or beliefs were challenged by his internalizations about his own illness and help-seeking?

o What strengths does he exhibit?

o What was the primary benefit of his diagnosis?

o Do you think his experience would be different if his culture was different? Explain why or why not?

Use APA format, intext citations and references from Required reading and any creditable outside sources.

Does lack of play in childhood lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence?

Begin by exploring topics in developmental psychology. Reference your textbook, the weekly introductions in your course, and reputable journal articles to explore topic ideas. Be sure to choose a topic that you are highly interested in. From that topic, you will pose a question for your research.

For example, you may find interest in the life span of adolescence. From there, you may want to explore issues related to adolescent suicide. From this topic you could pose a number of questions to research, such as:

1. Are adolescents from single-parent homes at higher risk of suicide than those from two-parent homes?

2. Does lack of play in childhood lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence?

3. Does “helicopter parenting” lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence?

How to Develop a Research Question

Your research question should enable you draw some unique conclusions so that you are not simply reporting on research that has already been concluded. You may have to do some preliminary research within your topic to determine a suitable question. Here are some examples.

This example is too broad and will likely lead to a confusing and disorganized paper. It lacks parameters.

Why do adolescents commit suicide?

This example is too narrow. It can be answered rather simply with some basic data.

How many adolescent suicides occurred last year?

A good research question specifies the parameters of the research, yet leaves room for analysis and the writer’s unique input.

What are some of the unique social factors that led to an increase in suicide rates among 13- to 18-year-old females in 2015?

(In your paper, you would define two to three social factors you deem significant and connect them with the appropriate physical, cognitive, and socioemotional occurrences happening during this part of life span development. Then, draw your own conclusions from the research you find.)

Once you have your research question, phrase it as a statement so that it can become your thesis statement. The thesis statement is what drives the direction of your paper. To learn more about thesis statements click the link below.

The Research Paper Topic Proposal Assignment

Include the following in your topic proposal:

· Your research question

· Your thesis statement

· A narrative describing your topic and why you chose it (its significance)

Refer to the Writing Resource folder in the main menu and consult your West Coast University librarians for database search support as needed.

Your topic proposal should be 1–2 pages in length. Use APA format and cite and reference all sources.

Productive Use of Writing Assistance

Writing is one of the foundational skills of almost any graduate program. If you have trouble translating your ideas onto paper, others will not be able to evaluate your analysis or your ideas. It may take two or three drafts to produce the kind of clear, well-organized, concise writing that enables you to communicate your ideas successfully as a professional psychologist.

There are two purposes for this discussion. First, it will give you practice in the process of scholarly writing—drafting, getting feedback, and revising. Each cycle like this has the potential to refine your ideas and to improve the clarity of the writing. Second, it will allow you to practice these concepts with your own assignment before submitting it for a grade.

Begin by reviewing your Unit 4 assignment. The topic you investigated is the basis of this problem statement. Use the description of this unit’s assignment, Problem Statement, to create the first draft of your assignment. Complete that draft as early in the week as possible.

As soon as you have what you consider to be a good draft of your assignment (but not later than Thursday), post it as your initial post to this discussion.

DISCUSSION 2

Library Search

Complete the following:

  • Search the Capella library for an article that investigates an important topic in your area of psychology. You will analyze this article in the first discussion in this unit.
  • Search the Capella library for an article on what it means to be a reflective practitioner. There are many reflective practitioner models, and you should find one that fits your needs and values.

Critical Thinking in Practice

Once you have determined that an article is from a scholarly journal, you must still examine the article with a critical eye. Does the author have an obvious bias? Are there flaws in the methodology that make you question its validity? Even if the research appears sound, the findings might not apply to the topic you are studying. There should be no literature review articles or conceptual articles.

For this discussion, use what you learned in the readings from your Critical Thinking in Psychology text, particularly about the critical evaluation of flaws in thinking, to analyze the article you found in your library search. Answer the following questions in your initial post, and include an APA-formatted reference to the article at the end of your post:

  • Do you think the author made his or her point in a compelling way?
  • Did you identify any problems with the methodology for any research described?
  • Can the findings be generalized to the general population?
  • Are the conclusions drawn in the discussion section based on the findings reported in the results section, or are they based on something else?
  • Do you see any errors in the article, or anything with which you disagree?
  • Does the article leave you with any unanswered questions?

DISCUSSION 3

Model for Reflective Practice

Being self-aware and self-reflective are qualities that can help a person in any profession, but they are especially helpful in psychology. Based on your research in this unit:

  • Share the reflective practice model you have chosen and discuss why it fits your personal needs.
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses related to professional and interpersonal skills.
  • Share your thoughts about how you plan to begin and practice good self-reflection and become more self-aware.

Provide APA-formatted references for any resources you used to research this discussion post. Demonstrate the upper levels of Bloom’s taxonomy in your post.
