Provide an example from current or past experience (about one paragraph) on a threat to equality or equity.

H. George Frederickson, expert in the field of public administration, coined the term “social equity,” which urges public administrators not to view individuals within one environment as the same but instead to view them against a backdrop of social and economic factors before assuming equality.

Ideals of equality and social justice form the basis of political philosophy. However, enforcing principles of equality across society often infringes on the liberal concept of social justice. Tensions within social and political relations have led to the creation of international government and nongovernment organizations that seek to maintain ethical standards of equality throughout the world. These ethical standards allow reasonable individuals to maintain their philosophical differences without jeopardizing the greater good of global society.

In this Discussion, you will compare the concepts of equality and social equity, and the role of public administrators in promoting social equity.

By Day 3

Post an IRA (Insights, Resource, and Application) in the Discussion Board as follows:

  1. Insights: As you read the resources, create bullet points that capture what you have learned about the relationship between equality and social equity, and critical insights you gained from each article. Summarize these key points and insights by using APA format.
  2. Resource: In addition to the assigned readings, share one other resource that amplifies the themes for this week, such as the relationship between equality and social equity. Note a book, article, news items, website, or film with similar ideas, thoughts, and themes. Cite your resource by using APA format, and explain, in no more than three sentences, how this resource is relevant to the assigned readings.
  3. Application: Provide an example from current or past experience (about one paragraph) on a threat to equality or equity. (Multicultural and/or international examples are welcome but not required.) Then, explain a strategy you believe that a public administrator might use to promote equality and equity in this example and explain why you chose this strategy.

Support your postings and responses with specific references to the resources.

Define what a family is, and what families do. Review pages 83-105 in the course text; then describe two ways that family functioning has changed throughout history

Content Review

Directions:
Respond to each item. Each response should be concise and  2–paragraphs in length.
Use MS Word to write your responses, and submit your answers to all three questions in one Word document.
Copy and paste each question within the document, so that your Instructor can see which question you are responding to.

  1. Define what a family is, and what families do. Review pages 83-105 in the course text; then describe two ways that family functioning has changed throughout history. Explain how these changes may be impacting the lives of young children and may impact your work as a professional.

  1. Your course text asks the question: “What impact do collectivistic and individualistic parenting orientations have on children?” Review the information on pages 130-133 and Table 4.1 on page 137, which summarizes the two types of orientation. What are the differences between these two orientations? How might making generalizations about a family’s orientation lead to misconceptions or other problems?

  1. Parenting practices influence children’s behavior at home and in school. Review Baumrind’s four parenting styles on pages 151-155 of your text. Identify and explain the parenting style that seems to result in the most productive child behaviors. How could Baumrind’s findings with regard to the outcome of parenting styles guide the ways in which you may work with families in the future?

Assignment 1 Task 1. Briefly explain the meaning of strategic leadership of human resources. Why is this important to a principal? What would this look like in practice? Use your readings and other resources to support your response. Task 2. Based on the policies you have read; do you believe that the development and implementation of policy is important to acquiring and leading human resources on your campus? Briefly explain why or why not? Task 3. Interview a principal, based on questions in tasks 1 and 2. Take notes, as needed. Write at least a half page reflection on what you learned from your interviews, discussing any differences, additions, or confirmations that were discovered. Interviews can be held face—to—face, by phone, Skype, or other accessible platform. (It is not required that the principal you interview, work in your school district). Task 4. Based on DAA (LEGAL), a district should not discriminate against an employee, based on a set of protected categories. In addition, this policy also states that a district has a duty to maintain a working environment free of harassment. In your role as principal, discuss how you would ensure compliance with both aspects of this policy. Why are they both an important part of your leadership? How could adherence to this policy, or lack thereof, impact your campus culture? A new principal of a high school begins to review the campus master schedule and notices that there are several teaching vacancies that must be filled. He calls a staff meeting and discloses this information to the staff, in order to inform them that he is working to resolve classroom—overcrowding issues. Later on that day, the principal discussed with his campus administrative team that the current staff appears to be aging, and he would like the interview committee to focus on hiring younger staff members in order to invigorate the environment. Based on this, he advises the team to pay close attention to younger candidates, or those likely to be younger candidates, when reviewing applicants. One of the staff members states that she has the perfect candidate; however, she thinks that he may have been engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a minor, which was in violation of the law. Despite this, she ensures everyone that the applicant is a very good person. The principal proceeds to prepare the posting, and submits the necessary forms for approval. The district posts the vacancy on the district website. Being that there is a preferred candidate, the principal suggests filling the vacancy in the next 5 days. Based on your knowledge of policy, list some of the concerns with this principal’s actions. Refer to the specific policy that supports your concern. Briefly explain how would you address the ethical concerns and decision making in this scenario. Task 6: Policy Scenario 2 A teacher at an elementary school observes a large bruise on one of her student’s arm. She immediately asks the student if he is ok. He says yes, and responds by saying that he fell off of his bike. Later that day, the teacher over hears the student telling his friend that a relative, who stays at his home, hits him every day for no reason. The teacher informs you, as the principal, of this. How should you advise the teacher? Support your decision using policy. As a campus principal, what would you do to ensure that your campus staff is cognizant of the reporting requirements related to abuse? Why is this important?

Describe strategies the collaborative team uses to work together in the classroom.

esearch  collaborative models. In a presentation or brochure for preservice  teachers, choose one model and describe it. Cover the following:

  1. Provide an overview of the collaborative model you selected.
  2.  Analyze, with detail,  communication among stakeholders – in what ways do they communicate, how often, etc.?
  3. Discuss how decisions of curriculum are made between the collaborative team.
  4.  Describe strategies the collaborative team uses to work together in the classroom.
  5. Explain how you could implement this model in your classroom.

To complete a presentation, you may use Microsoft PowerPoint, Prezi, a free web presentation website (http://prezi.com/), or Google Presentations (http://docs.google.com/templates?type=presentations).

Your  presentation should be 10-15 slides that include a title slide and a  reference slide. Slides should be easy to read and appealing. Only key  words and phrases should be on the slide itself. Use the notes section  at the bottom of each slide to elaborate.

To complete the brochure, you may use Microsoft Publisher, Canva (https://www.canva.com/) or AdobeSpark (https://spark.adobe.com/make/brochure-maker/ ).  Your brochure needs to be a minimum of 3 pages.
